Guess I'll start this month's topic.

Already November 2nd!

I am looking forward to running my next marathon. NYC lottery opens up today- I'll think I'll try to get in.
I am really going to concentrate on my speed work over the winter. I joined a running club and can't wait to get started with that.

I have heard that the first marathon you do you focus on just finishing. The next one you want to improve your performance. I think I get that after #2. I really want to run Boston some day. I may be able to get in as a charity runner but I would have to raise $3000! That is a huge amount of money. I am going to give myself a year to improve my time and hopefully BQ.

Goal for today is to update October's spread sheet!

I did an hour spin class then an hour bodyflow. I am really struggling with a decesion to give up riding. Since I have been laid off I am finding it difficult to justify the expense. I know I have to stop but it would break my heart. Help!

Whoops...It's November and I don't think I updated October spreadsheet at all....where is the time going?

Did a Weight and Pilates class today, which was a challenge considering I did 13 yesterday--A tougher 13 than I was expecting what with chafing and what I have determined to be achy "extensor hallucis longus" tendons. Hope tomorrow is better body-wise.

Ran out of halloween candy on Saturday! (That's one way to keep from eating it all.) Had at least 225 kids and then at 7:40 had to turn off the lights. Was not expecting that many--last year was a record with ~ 150.

Joanne I haven't finished my 1st marathon yet, but would be thrilled to do Boston one day (since I grew up on the North Shore and went to school in Boston). I keep telling myself not to put too much pressure on myself for the Mickey in January, but depending on what day it is, I go back and forth thinking I should try to meet BQ. Don't know what to tell you about riding. My sister is still supporting at least 1+ horses and I know how expensive it is.

Off to do errands....

Maura

Suzanne - Thanks for the pictures of the medals. Great job!

Liz - Did you do the Sears Tower climb yet?

Shan - I'm glad you had fun at TOT. Thanks for the quick report. Are you a WDW Radio listener too?

Joanne - Good for you setting goals for NYC and Boston. I just saw the NYC Marathon on NBC this weekend.

Maura - That's a big jump up in kids for trick or treating. We had a pretty small turnout because of drizzle. We maybe had 150 kids but we usually get 300 in our subdivision. A huge advantage of having Halloween on a weeknight is I get to unload the extra candy at work the next day. It's been sitting here for two days now and it's killing me!

AFM, our circle of family and friends have been getting hit hard by the flu. I had it first, then my daughter, and now my wife. I took care of her today but managed to sneak out for 30 minutes of elliptical.

I started doing weight training last week and I can already see a slight difference. I did my first CrossFit class on Friday and I'm still sore! I didn't realize how weak my core was.

I have an 8 mile race next weekend followed by a half the weekend after. We will be going out of town for Thanksgiving so I'll have to miss the local Turkey Trot. I saw there is a 10K near my sister's house Thanksgiving morning so I'm trying to warm my wife up to letting me sneak away for a few hours that morning to pre-burn some stuffing! I'd just be getting in the way while they are preparing the feast, right?

Hey goofs! Joanne, thanks for starting the new thread. You rock!! :goodvibes

Maura, holy kids.... We live on a back road with a long scary driveway so we NEVER get kids. Besides, we were watching field hockey....

So the 8-year winning streak for DDs field hockey team is officially over. They lost in a heartbreaker. It was a very intense game to watch but hard all the same.

I put my name into the lotto for NYC. I figure WTH right. I got 20 minutes of cardio and 15 minutes of abs this morning. Running is a wish for me right now but I am trying to keep up my fitness at least.

Take care Goofs!!

Hi Goofs!

Finally updated October's workouts. Basically I did all my running in one day for the entire month. Pretty pathetic. But remember I got sick on the plane ride home so I have a lame excuse for some of it.

My son's team made the playoffs so another week of football practices. Is it wrong of me to hope they lose? A part of me would really like to be done with 4 two hour practices every week. And I have to stay so its not like I can just drop him off and come back! So thats 2 hours of sitting on cold bleachers every night.

Lisa - Sorry about the loss. I bet that was tough to swallow after such a long winning streak. I always find the intense games tough to watch. I usually pace back and forth and can't sit still at any of my kid's games. I do better if their game is after a particularly long run though.

Hang in there Goofs and stay HEALTHY!

Cecilia

Still need to update my October workouts. I'll get around to it in the next day or so.

Couple bad runs for me - yesterday, I only managed a mile and a half, and it was the hardest I have done in years. My shins felt like they were on fire. Not sure what it was, although I suspect a fast 5k (in the rain, and high wind, and only against myself), coupled with a lot of runs on my POS treadmill contributed to it. Did manage 4 today, without much pain, so hopefully it will ease up in a day or three.

Not sure what I am going to do tomorrow - DD felt tonight while cleaning up her toys, and smashed her mouth against a stepstool. She has one tooth now loose and crooked, and we took her first to Urgent Care, and then to the ER. (We tried to get hold of our dentist, but couldn't.) So, she will be going to the dentist first thing tomorrow, and she'll probably be eating applesauce and yogurt for a couple of days. But it does mean that I probably won't be getting her to the Y, so I'll be running around in little .5 mile circles once the kids are in bed (instead of piling on more miles on the dreadmill.)

Hey Goofs, I was going to try and update the October sheet but did not keep track of any times/miles so I don't even know where to start. UGGGG.

Anyways, I formed a team for the 2009 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and talked 14 of my coworkers and my daughter into walking this 5K with me. It was amazing!! There were over 6000 walkers, mostly in pink, who walked through downtown Orlando for this cause. My daughter and I took it slow and finished in just under an hour. I am so proud of her!!!! I might try and talk her into doing a Disney 5K with me where there are lots of other walkers. We'll see. Picture below is me and Lindsey after the finish.

Congrats to everyone on their races and good luck to Lisa and Joanne on the NYC lotto for the marathon next year! Can't believe the January 1/2 is only 2 months away again, in some ways it feels like I just did it yesterday!!!

Suzanne It's always nice to see you and your daughter out there together. You should definitely get her to do a Disney 5k....I bet she'd do great.

Rich Hope your shins--and DD;s teeth!-- are better and that you made it out for a run.

I didn't get in anything yeseterday--except two meals out (one retirement luncheon and my DS XC banquet--our final one after seven consecutive years (DD, too)) Have another lunch today, but am headed for the gym soon.

Hey Goofs! I'll try to get the Oct sheet updated this weekend. I'm on the computer all day at work so very often avoid it at night.

The Sears Tower Climb is next Sunday. 103 floors, 2,197 steps. No, I am not right. I'm going to take my camera and take pics in the higher floors. You know "here's me gasping at 75" "here's me swearing at 90" etc. :rotfl:

Haven't been training as much as I should be life kinda stepped in and squashed my motivation. Feeling better now and back in control so here's to moving on and up!

Oh and I also have entered the NYC 2010 lottery! One of the few fulls I want to do.

Keep up the great work everyone!! I'll try to keep up with the team better this month.

Hi all. I charted unexplored territory today with a 14 mile run...well, actually it ended up being ~ 14.4 since DH's directions were slightly off. Anyway, it's the longest I've ever run. Was I tired when I was done! I don't know if I could have gone another mile or not. Hip flexors were definetely working, but nothing was really sore or bothering me. It was just a long run!

Anyway, gotta go figure out dinner.....

Maura

Just wrapped up a 10 mile run. (10.08 or something, but I am rounding down.) Was originally planning 12 or 12.5, but with my knee really acting up on Monday, and not feeling right all week, I bagged it before my knee could bug me. I can't BQ on my next marathon anyway, no matter how fast I run it, since Boston does not count indoor marathons.

Keep running everyone! The more miles you pile up this month, the more pieces of pumpkin pie you can have on Turkey day! (And the better shape you will be in for Black Friday too!)

Great job on your LR Maura!

Rich, I'm curious about an indoor marathon. I've never heard of one?!?

I just ran an 8-mile race on Saturday. It was a small local race that beat me up pretty good. It was flat and a pretty boring course but it was really humid. It started to sprinkle just after I spotted the finish. :headache: In fact, it POURED rain on my drive home.

I took a slow, easy pace to start and took all my walk breaks but my energy just left me after mile 4. I got a lot of sleep the night before but not much the week leading up to it. I also started doing Crossfit at my gym and did a session of it the afternoon before the race. This is a lot more intense than anything I'm used to so I'll call that my excuse! ;)

I'm going to taper a bit this week and stop running after Wednesday as I run my fourth and final half marathon of the year on Sunday. Like the San Francisco Half, I'll be running this more to take in the experience and snap a lot of photos and not worry much about my time so I'm really looking forward to it. It's in Monterey, CA and my DD has never been to the famous aquarium there. We are also seeing some good friends who moved there a while back so it should be a great weekend getaway.

Have a great week everyone!

Hi Goofs!

I ran an easy 8 miler on Saturday. I am still trying to get back in my grove post marathon. Actually, I think I am still trying to get in the grove from last year's goofy. Or maybe I never had a grove.

Maura - great job! isn't it funny how we obsess about those extra miles until we actually get out there and run them? I think it was my hip flexors that gave me grief in Chicago - strange sensation isn't it?

Hang in there Goofs and keep pushing. Its so easy to get our exercise derailed by our schedules and our other obligations! Remember that even a short run is better than no run. And in worse case scenarios - do some squats. Yeah yeah, I should tell that to myself.

Cecilia

Great job on your LR Maura!

Rich, I'm curious about an indoor marathon. I've never heard of one?!?

There are only a couple of them in the country: the Zoom Yah Yah (which I am doing), the Icrebreaker, and I think a couple others. To my knowledge, they're also all in the upper Midwest, and in the middle of winter.

Anyway, it's something like 160 laps around an indoor track. No mp3 permitted, and the track is not closed, but we can submit songs to be played over the loudspeakers during the race. THey also assign a scorekeeper to each runner - the scorekeepers are drawn from the ranks of the St Olaf College Womens XC team, I believe.

And, you can't BQ on an indoor marathon. The first or second year of the Zoom Yah Yah, some guy made a BQ time. Boston allowed him, and promptly changed the rules so that no indoor course can be certified as a Boston qualifier.

I'm back Goofs. Yes, I was a very bad little girl and didn't run for two weeks after coming back from the TOT 13K. I got out this morning for 3 miles around the neighborhood with my doggie. Knee bothered me a little, but overall wasn't too bad. Might be able to pull off that Thanksgiving 10K... We'll see! Hope all my fellow Goofs are doing well! :grouphug:

Beautiful day in the ATL for a run! Just got back from a 3 miler around the neighborhood with my dog Bella. Hoping to get 4 miles in tomorrow!

Hope everyone is doing well! :goodvibes

Hi all,

Did 8 at the gym thi morning. 8 miles on a TM is pushing my limit. It becomes more of a mental challenge than a physical one. But I need the TM to help with pace. Next week I am supposed to do 9 for my temp run and I think I may have to do that outdoors.

Shan Glad you're getting out to run. It's nice here today , too. Only 50 or so, but nice and sunny. If that's what fall/winter always looked like, it would be great!

Maura

Good job Maura, I don't think I could run that far on a treadmill!

Ya, it is a happy day in Atlanta when the sun is out these days. I feel like it is always raining... :headache:
