Hi everyone. I am still amongst the living, barely. I've had a lot of things happening in my personal life lately that have kept me from everything, including my friends. I would like to tell you that they are over, but they aren't by a long shot so, continue carrying on without me as you have been.

I hope that everyone is well. It sounds like training is going good for most of you. :wizard: To those who need it and :worship: for those who have earned it. Someday I hope to be back with you all again!

If someone would post the team totals for the last month at some point from the spreadsheet I would appreciate it. I just wanted to start the last thread of the year for you and tell you all what AWESOME people you are and how inspiring you are to those around you. Keep up the great work.

hugs Lisa.

Life is definately keeping me off the computer too. AH how I long for some down time.

Lisa, sorry to hear that life has been getting in the way. I hope you find yourself with free time for happier things soon.

I did a 17-miler on Saturday morning, but this time I was (gasp) solo. However, I was on Disney property (the Epcot/Boardwalk/Yacht & Beach/Studios loop), so it wasn't all bad. :goodvibes As part of my training for the post-race festivities, I tried to spend the rest of the day at Epcot after a quick shower and change. Um yeah. I barely made it through the 6:45 Candlelight Processional before crash and burn. I guess I will need to go back to the hotel for a nap after my lunch at Le Cellier on 1/10 if I want to make it through the Illuminations dessert party. Oh well. Better to discover this in late November as opposed to learning the hard way on race day!

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving and wish you all the best for the coming holiday season.

Checking in to ask for some encouragement and a few harsh words to get my lazy butt off the couch. I took Sunday, Monday, AND Tuesday off. Zero, zip, nada. Yesterday's 6-miler was a sight to behold. My first two miles were way more walk than run, and I would have been swept if I kept that pace at a Disney race. Please tell me that I can and I will finish this marathon. The self-doubt is pretty strong today. Of course, that didn't stop me from faxing in my paperwork to do the Princess Half with Team in Training!

KIM!

Get your lazy butt off the couch!!!

You can and you will finish this marathon!!!!

Some times we need that mental taper so stop beating yourself up and go run.
As for finishing the marathon. Of that I have no doubt. You can do it. What you are training for now is to minimize the suffering. You know you will get out there and start and you will refuse to quit - so you have got to train to keep the marathon fun and enjoyable. When its hard to get out there, just visualize how you want to feel at mile 20 or mile 23. That usually gets my butt off the computer chair and out the door.

Look how far you have come! You can do this!

Cecilia

Lisa Hope things work out for you soon.

Kim I hear you on the fatigue thing. I know that going back to the room right away and napping would be bad, but I will have to sneak in some kind of rest or I wil never make it for the dessert party. That's pretty much around/past my bedtime--even without a marathon!

And you CAN get this done. Sometimes these little periods of boredom/nerves/lack of motivation just slip in. Everyone has something--I find that towards the end (in my limited experience) I tend to get bored of the training and just want to get the race done! Well, that and worry about something happening (illness, injury) so close to the race!

AFM......despite a cold, I did my 6 yesterday. Later on yesterday and now, I feel worse, so good thing it's a rest day. Tomorrow is 18 miles.....

Maura

Hey Super Goofs. I haven't been posting here for awhile.....but my miles and times have been maintained! :thumbsup2

Things on the WISH boards have been tense......just wanted to give you all credit for keeping up on your workouts and supporting each other. That's what the WISH boards are for.

Beth

I hear ya, Beth. I'm glad we Goofs have remained supportive of each other and have avoided some of the drama.

I also hear ya about posting minutes/miles and not checking in on our thread. I understand that posting the miles here instead of a spreadsheet meant more work for our captains, but it did give us a reason to check in with the group more frequently.

Hi all,

I'm sitting here depressed....did my 18 mile run yesterday--it was terrible and every muscle in my legs aches today, whichis NOT typical. Worse than that-I think I have re-aggravated my ITB, althought this time on the left. I feel awful--things were going pretty well and now this happens with one month to go! I'm trying not to overstress and will do what I can to deall with the aches and pains. I am just hoping things improve, and am trying to figure out why they went wrong.

Maura

So sorry about your run and soreness Maura. I hope you get better quickly and can cheer up soon.

I'm bummed too as today was supposed to be my first 16-miler. I felt great the first hour and then I don't know what happened. My energy started dropping pretty quickly over the next half hour. I started getting light-headed after that which has never happened to me during a run. I stopped and had an energy bar and felt so-so and finished the next 30 minutes.

I had to stop after that as I just felt too sick and light-headed. I wish I knew exactly what the problem was. It wasn't dehydration as I had plenty to drink before and during my run. I paid a lot of attention to my breathing so I don't think that was a problem either.

I know I probably didn't eat enough this morning and didn't get very much sleep last night. Maybe it was one or both of those two things?!?

I only ran 10 miles. The longest I have ever run to date is 13.1 several times. I'm pretty nervous about running the WDW full next month as I should be in the 18-20 mile range by now and looking to taper soon.

My knee set me so far back in training that I don't know exactly what I should do now. The good news is that it feels great and I haven't had any problems in a while. My cardio and muscle development are pretty good as I substituted lots of cycling, elliptical, rowing and weight training/CrossFit when I had to ease up on running. I've never been in better shape but my base mileage isn't where it needs to be.

Oh, well. I'll definitely be there on the 10th and giving it my all, regardless of how much I have to walk.

Steve, I am pretty much in the same boat, for a non-Disney marathon in Jan. Sometimes, training just does not go the way you planned, and you find yourself undertrained on race day. Just take the race easy, and enjoy it, rather than trying for a PR. Aim for finishing with a smile on your face, and then go enjoy the parks for those of us stuck in the frozen north.

Wow, hugs to all my fellow Goofs! :grouphug:

I've totally lost motivation, too. I think it was having nothing to really train for, plus I've gained some weight and I'm just in general feeling like a slug.

So, I started training for the Atlanta ING Half this week. We'll see how that goes... :lmao: I almost don't want to do it cause I know my time will be my slowest half to date, but I need something to keep me moving.

The big news around here is DH finished a 40 mile trail run this past Sunday. It is his longest race to date. I think he is a tad crazy, but I still love him. ;)

I've been busy enough to miss the boards and the drama I guess. I can kinda bet what it is about. :surfweb:

Will miss everyone for Marathon Weekend, as we're taking the girls for NYE instead. Course, DH got called into federal jury duty so now we're waiting to hear back on his request for a postponement. It is always something around here!

Hugs Goofs! :goodvibes

Thanks for the encouragement! :grouphug:

I'm definitely not setting out for a PR (technically it will be as it's my first full) but I am just looking forward to taking in the entire experience of the WDW Marathon.

A big storm is supposed to come through here but if it doesn't, I'll be running in two short races tomorrow - a 2-miler followed by a 4-miler. These will be my last races before leaving for the World.

I registered for a neat half through Napa Valley's wine country next July. My sister decided to register for it too so we will be running it together. She is new to running but got inspired and really wants to do it. She is working on C25K now and has a half marathon training plan she will follow after that. I'm really happy for her.

I also registered for my first triathlon next March when we are visiting Disneyland. I am a horrible swimmer and can't go more than 50m now without needing to stop. It's only a 150m swim, 15K bike, and 5K run so I'm sure I'll be ready for it by then. It should be a good "baby steps" tri to get my feet wet (pun intended) in the sport. After we return from WDW, I'm going to start swim lessons to help me improve my strokes.

I hope everyone is staying warm and is having a great holiday season!

Still on page one? Everyone must be busy with holiday stuff, I know I am!

Yesterday we had cookie day, made dozens and dozens of cookies, so many that I didn't even want to eat them! (Today I did though, had to make sure they tasted ok, right?)

Today, high temps were predicted to be 28-30, so I waited until we were up to 29, figured that was as good as I'd get, and headed out for a run. It was cold, but after the first half mile, everything was numb, so I kept going, got in just over 3 before it started snowing...looks like back to the dreadmill!

Got a question, one of my long-term goals is to do a full marathon, but right now, I'm at a 3 1/2 hour Half marathon, what is a realistic time frame for me to set? I was thinking I shouldn't even think about full training until I am much faster on a half, but I want something to aim for. Any input?

Hope everyone is doing well!

Well, it's official - I am going to be in a world of hurt come January. I was going to do a long run last night, but bagged it after a mere 7.5 miles because the treadmill was making some disturbing noises. There just isn't going to be time to get back on track before my next marathon, so I am going to bull throug on a solid base and determination.

Rich Sorry about the TM. Here's hoping you're set for January.

Angie I think it's great to aim for a full marathon. If you have some flexibility in location, you could look for one with a more generous pace time. I'm sure Wendy (getnthinr) and some of the other ladies know of a good one--they seem to do quite a few! As for "time frame"--wasn't sure if you meant "when to do one"--in which case I would say 2010! or if you meant "how long to finish one"--in which case you can look for a finish time calculator. You'd be able to get an estimate of time. Anyway, hope you find one that works for you.

Steve Congrats on signing up for your tri! It's a lot of work, but still feels neat when you finish.

ShanHope you find your motivation soon. I'll look for it up here. ;)

As for me....decided after my lousy 18 miler to take one full training week off from running. Still did XT, but wanted to give my legs a rest. Seems like during that week I have found other ways to abuse them! Tomorrow is a run day for me, so we'll see how it goes.

Hope all the other Goofs are doing well!

Maura

Ceclilia, thanks for the encouragement and the kick in the booty. I really needed that.

Shan, best wishes for ING Atlanta. That's on my wish list for someday -- if I ever decide to do a non-Disney race, that is.

Another triathlete in our midst? I'm starting to feel wimpy for training for "just" a marathon! Best of luck, Steve.

Rich, I don't know much about marathon training, but I do know you have the strongest base I can possibly imagine. If anyone can muscle through on race day, I'm sure it will be you.

Maura, I hope tomorrow's run goes well and that your IT band decides to get with the program. Sounds like you were very smart about cross-training last week. I hope it pays off for you.

Angie, I agree with Maura about finding a marathon with a friendlier cut-off time for 2010 and going for it. But if you have your heart set on Disney, I'd say 2011 will be your year. I'll :cheer2: from here as you train!

AFM, I finished my first-ever 20-mile run on Saturday. The only minor disaster was that the data for the first 16.5 miles -- and all of my previous runs to date -- is now gone for good. (I had failed to back up my Garmin Training Center data and my laptop's hard drive was replaced last week, and then while on the run, I accidentally deleted ALL laps from my 305 when I got the "memory full" error instead of trying to keep 3 months' worth. :headache:) My thighs were quite sore Saturday afternoon and my big toe seems to be a bit arthritic now, but otherwise, I think I held up pretty well. I still fear and respect the distance of the marathon (that's putting it mildly!), but it's starting to seem to be within the realm of possibility that I'll finish. I guess that's what a 20-mile run is supposed to do for you mentally, so mission accomplished.

We went to DH's office party after the run and I hit the sack HARD around 7:00 PM. There was no waking me until the next morning, which again, does not bode well for the Illuminations meet on Sunday. I'm back to thinking I might try and muscle through the rest of the day without a nap on 1/10, since there is no way I'll get out of bed and drag my weary behind back to Epcot. I apologize in advance for my sure-to-be-cranky attitude at the dessert party!

Thanks Goofs,
Tracy

Kim You won't be alone in the sleepy department after the marathon--I'll be there, too!

Did 8 miles today and at first my quad felt awful. Finally, it seemed to warm up and by 6 miles I felt reasonably good. Finished the 8 and even picked up the pace a little. So up next is 20 on 20th.

DD comes home from school tomorrow (Yeah!), and haven't done a ton in the way of Christmas shopping--we don't even have a tree yet! So things will be busy until Christmas.

Hope all the other Goofs are doing well.

Maura
