Hey Goofs, we just got home from our long cross-country flight and drive yesterday. We had a 6.5 magnitude earthquake near our house while we were in FL so we had to assess the damage. Other than our kitchen window that will no longer open and a cabinet that shifted slightly from the wall, everything here was fine.
Welcome back everyone who was at the event. I hope you all had a great time and got home safely. I'm so bummed I wasn't able to meet anyone. I couldn't make the POP meet and was already on my way out to the corrals by the time I remembered about the W tent.
I saw a lot of WISHers while running and yelled out to them or thanked the ones cheering every time I passed. I'll make every effort to meet all of you at future races.
What can I say about the marathon? It was everything I thought it would be and much more. Due to having my training set so far back because of my knee, this was the first time I had actually run more than 13.1 miles! My half PR was 2:05 but not knowing what to expect, I was shooting for 5:30 as I knew I would be slowing my pace greatly to try to conserve energy and to also stop for a lot of pictures. I finished in 5:51 which was a bit slower than I expected but I wasn't the least bit disappointed.
I hit my first wall at mile 12 as I had been running for 2:45 which was longer than I had ever run. It got easier when I finally reached Animal Kingdom but got brutal after that. By mile 20-21 I really didn't know how I would finish (upright at least). My knee held up fine but my hamstring on the same side was killing me. I stopped every few minutes to stretch which helped a little.
I don't know what happened but as soon as I entered the Studios, all my pain and fatigue went away and adrenaline kicked back in and I flew through the rest of the 3+ miles until the finish.
In all, I thought everything was run really well by Disney. I even welcomed the cold as I'm used to races in the 30s. My only complaints were the ASI photos as there are so few of me. It seemed most of the times I saw a photographer, they were fussing with their cameras or shot people before and after me. I know I'm not the most photogenic person but come on! I'm still sifting through page after page of unknown pictures to try to find a few more of me so I can purchase them.
I was also really disappointed with the selection of Mickey merchandise at the expo. I thought the Donald and Goofy stuff looked cool but most of the Mickey clothes had a lot of pink and looked too feminine.
Is anyone on here going Coast to Coast by doing the
Disneyland Half this year?
