Super Goofs June Team Challenge Thread

Angie, that question is probably better handled by someone like Joanne but I usually play it by ear (or feel). If I feel any lightheadedness while running at all, I usually just break it down to a brisk walk.

I can't believe you did 4 miles in 90 degrees with no blisters?????!!!!! Have you finally solved the blister issue????!!!!! Happy dance...:woohoo: :woohoo:

Nothing for me today...work is kicking my butt...4 more days until our inspection.

Lisa, I am definitely considering the OKC half in '09...I've heard it's a pretty good race.

Hi goofs

90 minutes today total exercise time, lower body, ab work.

40 minutes on the TM for 3 miles, (the wind switched to out of the north and it was cold for June).

Have a great evening all.

Thanks for cheering me on as I progress through C25K, Goofs! I did W7D1 today. 2.53 miles in 35 minutes. I also did 1000 meters on the rowing machine in 6.25 minutes.

Suzanne, you ARE an hourglass (I'm jealous!!)

Aw...thanks Angie!!

I think you and your sisters should get a commission check from Garmin, if it wasn't for yours at the Minnie, I wouldn't have bought one! The UPS website says I should have it tomorrow, can't wait!!

Good morning Super Goofs. Yay for everyone getting out there. Yay for surviving this heat. Our heat wave has nearly ended and we are getting back to normal 60-70s which is soooooo much better for my poor constitution!!

Shannon: The OKC half is very inspirational and the opening ceremony is very moving I have heard. Escape (former cocap of this team) and Steffwalks (Connie) captain of another team both did it this year. If you have any questions, you could PM one of them. I am hoping that my SIL keeps up with her walking/exercising and continues losing weight. I was trying to help her out with a goal of the OKC half in 09 but with air travel prices the way they are, I may have to beg off. I am still keeping it under consideration though. Having you there gives me more to consider!!!

Suzanne: Now that you will have your Garmin you have to remember the golden rule during Disney races. Never, never, never shut your Garmin off while crossing the finish line. The pics are not the best, trust me. I read this tip before the half and did it anyway...:headache:

Ksoehrlein: I am most impressed at the fact that you are VERY consistent in your distance and time when you run. I am never consistent and usually just run how fast I run and how far and I have learned to be happy with that. Once again, it goes to show how building a good base benefits you!! Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Everyone else: I hope you are out there exercising away today!! :yay:

As for me, I took a long bike ride yesterday....21.3 miles and I did it in 1:51 which really surprised me. I did not feel like it was that fast. I had a headwind most of the way and it was really hilly (headwinds on hills should be banned BTW) and I felt like I was not riding that fast but just working really hard. Needless to say, it was a good workout. DD got off the couch and went to softball practice last night which made her feel better. It took a lot of talking to convince her that sometimes exercising makes me feel better but she tried it and maybe is too much like her mom. :confused3 Poor kid. Today is an "easy run" so I will decide between 3 and 4 or maybe 5 depending on how sore my quads are after sitting for the next 6.5 hours working. Still in the USATF research program so no prerun stretch or extra stretching. I am beginning to feel like a violin string!!!! :scared1: So I preach to you all Super Goofs, stretch, stretch and stretch again, it really does make a BIG difference.

Have a great day everyone and keep on working hard!!!!! ::yes::

Joanne: Can you PM AmyBeth68? She has some questions about the Applefest and how bad the hills are, etcetera. She is almost ready to come and join us and maybe you can talk her into it the rest of the way!!! :thumbsup2

Hi Goofs!

I bailed on todays run. I was on call last night and ended up spending the wee hours at the hospital.

By the way,for those of you with kids that are 17 or 18, remember to have them sign a medical power of attorney for you on their 18th birthday. The couple I sat with had to wait a terrible time getting any word on their 18 year old son to begin with. HIPA laws strike again! I sure hope the HIPA laws are helping someone because they seem to hinder most people I know.

Anyway, the son came out of surgery at 4am and he is eventually going to be fine. I went home shortly after they got the word that he was in recovery and stable. Some family was starting to show up as well so I was no longer needed. Thank you God! I am still new at this and was a little worried about how to handle it if the situation got worse.

But I am a zombie this morning. My right hamstring is still tight from Tuesdays run and well, those are my excuses.

Cecilia

HI Goofs

55 minutes tonight total time,

25 minutes was on the bike for 6.2 minutes.

May not exercise tomorrow, need a rest day. DD is coming home this weekend for father's day and we plan on running both saturday and sunday.

Thursday...30 mins treadmill/1.28 miles

Got my Garmin today, can't wait to use it on Tuesday.

My "baby" is turning 13 on Saturday so that will be my off day with a day of Disney Quest, pizza and desserts with a bunch of 13 and 14 yr olds. What was I thinking?!?!

Good early a.m. Super Goofs. Last chance workout day. This is it people, get it done or we are not number one!!!! :yay:

I got myself out for a 3.12 mile run yesterday and I did it at 9:58 mpm (:woohoo: ). That was with 8 x 10 second hill sprints mixed in since there were 2 really big hills on my run!! I was really pretty happy considering I did the sprint, walk, gasp, gag, cough and repeat 8 times!!! :faint: I really hope I can get my 5K in on the 22nd as I think I may actually be able to finish in under 30 minutes which would be a HUGE PR for me. :hyper: If I don't get to go, I have decided that I will do the 5K around the track and check my time. Of course, flat soft track versus semi-hilly 5K course=no comparison but it will boost my confidence all the same.

Since I have been posting with Amybeth68 on another thread she has brought up the "killer" hills of the Applefest. I am really a little concerned. I hope they are not worse than the "killer" hills of Great Bay, otherwise we may have a problem Houston!!! My hammy and Achilles are just barely talking to me again and I have the ToT run 3 weeks after the Applefest!! :scared1: Don't worry Joanne, I am not going to bail, I may just have to start doing more hill training!!! :crazy2:

Good news, Escape and Nukeman are back on the roster and they are going to pack us in with some make-up miles. Nice to have them both back with us!! We missed you guys!!

Have a great day Goofs, get those steps/minutes in and make them count. This is your last chance for anything to post this week!!! I have nothing for the following: ReAnSt, Uptown_girl44, Disneyluv, crazy4disney06, Jimmduck, ArelysAdriana, Hockeygirl, SAP1227 and DH. Any of the above got any miles/minutes to contribute??? :listen:

Hi Goofs!

I will be MIA for a week. We are headed to the beach while Dh is in Shanghai. I will be back next week to report all my beach runs.

Yesterday - 30 minutes of weights and 20minutes/7 miles on the bike.

My right hamstring is still tight so I am not going to run today.

Cecilia

Have a great time Cecilia. Rest and ice that hammy. Make sure you try the releases that AB and I gave you on the main thread. If they are not working or if it gets worse, let me know and I will give you some more things to try. Ice and rest are the most important things. Time to XT!!

We play lacrosse on the beach, it is lots of fun. Frisbee will count too!! Swim time will be good for the hammy also.

Enjoy!! :goodvibes

The quick little Panda scampers in gives PrincessesRunner and huge hug and zipps off for the gym.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Lisa))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hit and run hugs, life is good.

Have an awesome day Goofers.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Cecilia Have a great time at the beach--it's been ages since I've had a beach vacation (and that even counts lakes, which for me aren't the same as the ocean). Also, thanks for the PoA tip. My DD just finished her first year at college and there are always stories about parents finding out info on their child--not just medical, but anything. The privacy laws do make it difficult to be "parental".

Lisa Just a word of thanks for your continued posts and activities. You are a great captain and have provided me with some motivation lately. Happy thoughts your way on PR'ing your 5k.

As for me 40 minute swim on Wedensday. Nothing special and the pool was busy--at 5:30 am! Did probably 0.9 miles, but I lost track at one point. Thursday was 45 minutes of riding and weights. 8.5 miles (but these trainers seem to be all different. This one was a "generous" one, I'm sure) Nothing today (yet) since I spent 2 hours wide awake last night (12-2) and just couldn't get back to sleep--and 3 hours of sleep wasn't going to cut it. Might run this pm with the dog--always good for XT!!

Maura

:grouphug: for Angie and anyone else who needs one too!!

Maura: Thanks for your kind words, it is nice to have positive reinforcement occasionally!! I know you have been feeling a little down and it is hard to keep going at times but I like to remind myself of "eye on the prize" when the going gets tough. Sometime if you run a half with me, you will hear me say it out loud, especially on hills!!!

 to the Goofs out there and to the scampering Panda (so near and dear to me!! )!!!!

Hey, I want a hug too!!!!!

The sneaky Panda peeks in sees Pungodingy and dashes over for a big Hug

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Pungodingy)))))))))))))))))))))))) then they dance

in a circle holding hands and laughing. Do a couple of the best "Dancing with the Stars", or in this case dancing with the princess, moves and then the little Panda zipps off to find another princess in need of a hug.

Happy Panda:hippie:
