Super Goofs Flying into February team thread

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Hey Liz, it's good to see you here. That's great that you are running Mickey next year. You'l have to say hi as you zip by me in the first mile!

Mike, sorry to hear about your finding. Ouch! I came on here to get sympathy for the blister on my big toe but I probably won't get any from you! Get better soon!

Great job on the workouts everyone! I'm still a little sore from a race on Saturday. I took Sunday off and resumed my training for 45 minutes yesterday. It was speed drills day which wiped me out a lot more than usual. Today is supposed to be a rest day but I'll be doing some yoga and pilates after my DD goes to sleep. I'm back to my regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. I'm going to get at least an hour in on the bike and if that dang snooze button doesn't get the better of me again, 30 minutes of elliptcal in the morning.

I sure hope the weather gets better here quickly. We need the rain but I've got three local races in the next five weeks.

Have a great week everyone!

i think races count for double time and distance, so be sure to enter that on the spreadsheet.

Nice job on the race.

Sorry about your toe...:lmao:

Mike

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome! :grouphug: I'm going back through collecting your shin exercise info because after I posted, I had a run where my shins were AWFUL. I can't remember who asked me but I just went to the Track Shack and had them fit me for new sneaks so maybe it's part of the breaking in period??? Would it help if I put on icy heat before I ran? I'm going to try the exercises that were suggested on Thursday.

I didn't realize we were also supposed to post our strength training activity? So I post my run time/distance stuff on my running days but I also enter just minutes of activity on my other work out days?

Mike- I've checked out the google doc but I can't find my name. Do I just use one of those "new team member" cells? Can I edit those for my name? Help! I'm keeping track but I need to 1. enter my info on the spreadsheet and 2. recalculate my other activity days.

I have one more question- do you always have to search for this board and the last posts or there a way to come back here? Does that even make sense? Do you just go to disboards, then WISH, then events, then goofs monthly thread? And then when you get here, do you just go and find the newest posts first and work backwards to when you last read? With 5 kids, I'm always looking for shortcuts :)

I hope y'all are having a great week. My last run was frustrating (shins) and my next would normally be tomorrow (I run m/w/f) but I have a meeting so I'm switching up this week and doing thurs/sat. I also do at least a half hour of strength training on my tues/thurs/sat and take sundays off :)

Thanks so much Suzanne for helping me get here :) I'm planning on running that ESPN 5k too!

Blessings & hugs, swift recoveries & good runs,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I can't be of any help about your shins but I sympathize with you. I used to have a lot of pain in my left knee and ankle which would oddly go away after 1.5 to 2 miles. I saw a hand and foot specialist and she advised me to toss my regular sneakers and spent some time at a running shop and got a good pair of running shoes. They made a world of difference. I also needed orthotics in my regular shoes which got rid of back problems I was having as well.

I hope you get the information you need and strengthen/heal your shins soon!

I checked the Google doc and it looks like you aren't on there yet and it's not shared to you either. Mike can set that up. He sent me great instructions after setting me up.

Yes, just post however many minutes of exercise you did each day along with any miles you covered. If you run 3 miles in 30 minutes and do another 0 minutes of weights, put 3 miles and 60 minutes. Like Mike said, don't forget to double your minutes and miles if you run in any races as their way to encourage us to get out there and compete.

You don't have to keep searching for this thread if you subscribe to it. Click on Thread Tools and then on Subscribe to this Thread. When you go into Disboards, click on User CP on the upper left and it will show you any subscribed threads you have that have posts that haven't been viewed since the last time you opened Disboards.

If you click on the little checkmark to the left of the thread title, it will take you to the last unread post.

I hope this helps!

You should be set now...sorry...

Look on page 4 of this thread for instructions on how to use the sheet, but Steve pretty well nailed it.

Mike

Morning everyone. Just checking in before my calls with Sweden & Israel (giving new meaning to "its a small world").

Yesterday we found out we're all getting a 7% pay cut starting May 1. Not really surprised, and for me it really just wipes out an unexpected raise I got last year.

Today I did stairmaster again. 30 minutes of climbing pleasure! Followed up with some leg/ab work.

Warm weather here is producing lots of fog. Snow is nearly gone. Hope to run outdoors this weekend.

Have a good day all.

Maura

Hi Goofs!

I RAN yesterday!! 4.4 miles. I keep looking at my Garmin thinking we must be flying along but nope, we were running slower than usual. Yikes! I am farther out of shape than I thought.

Mike - Sorry about your knee. Here is some hope though: I have a good friend who has battled his knees for years but he is on state 41 and insists that he can get those final 9 states before he requires amputation. He is running Boston with a charity group this spring for #42.

Maura - Ouch for the pay cut but I guess its better than layoffs.

Steve - Welcome! I read your post and immediately felt lazy - which is good cause I have been lazy....

Nicole - Welcome! Be careful with the shins. It could be tight calves so stop and stretch after your first mile. It could also be trying to add too many miles too quickly. Or, it could be a warning for something much worse. So pay attention to those shins!

Joanne - I hope that you get clarity in your decision about the Beast. Thats a tough call right now.

Lisa - My kids schedules make my head spin too. Luckily, DH has just finished his program at Cambridge so his travel is WAY down compared to last year. He was planning our yearly budget and I just realized that he adds all his triathlons in before any of my races. And his tri's are written in INK in the calendar. Hmmm.

Cecilia

Glad the surgery went well Mike. Hope the recovery is fast! :goodvibes

Cecilia, congrats on running again! :woohoo:

Off for a quick 3 miler...

I just stopped over to say hi to Lisa and Liz! Good Morning to all of you, have a great day!

Just dropping in to say hi frm the Warriors!!! I hope to pop in moe when I have my own world under control. ;) In teh meantime, keep up the great work everyone!

Nicole:

Before I go back to bed since my knee is on fire...there shouldn't be any break in period for properly fitted shoes...they should feel good right out of the box.

Don't worry about insisting on trying on different brands/sizes/widths...these are your feet, your back, your hips, your health and your money.

If the clerk is giving you a hard time, ask for the manager. If you don't get satisfaction from that, go to another store.

Just my humble opinion...I'm probably crankier than usual today, but you get the idea.

Mike

Mike - take good meds and go to bed.

Shan - when is your's?

Cecilia - Congrats on getting out there!

Lisa - you schedule always makes my head spin....

Maura - ick but at least they're not doing lay-offs. We found out there will be no raises this year to avoid another huge round of lay offs.

Nicole - I get shin pain too but like Steve only for the first mile or so. Part of it was I was taking off too fast and also find if I stop and stretch briefly it eases up then goes away. Do pay attention to it, though.

Steve - I dunno about passing you but will be great to see you!

AFM: got out in the 60 degree sunny afternoon yesterday. It was SOOOOO nice. Trail, not so nice. It's crushed limestone so not muddy but since it's so wet, kinda like early wet concrete stage. And still large ice slicks in places. Made for a much slower walk but I got out and enjoyed so that's all that matters. Did 5 min of 30 sec speed work in the parking lot afterward.

Tonight is motorcycle club meeting so no work out.

Have a great day!

Mike - I said go to bed.....

If you entered miles and minutes today, please reenter them.

At some point, over 80 hours of results were erased during today's entries.

Please Please Please take care not to enter anything into any blue cells, and to enter your measurements in MILES AND MINUTES.

Thank you.

Same issue...as of a few hours ago, we had 86 plus hours of total time for February...a few entries later, and we are down to 18 hours.

I've uploaded the sheet again.

Could someone PLEASE look at the spreadsheet, and post how many miles/hours you see on the summary page?

I see that we have 414.9 miles and 86:20:00 for time.

If you entered time and distance between my last post and this one, please double check your work/entries.

Thank you.

Mike

Just a mediocre 3 miles yesterday and today. DS wasn't feeling well yesterday, and was up sick pretty much all night, so I didn't get my run in until just a few minutes ago. Today was supposed to be intervals, but I think I'll just skip them this week, rather than do them the day before a long run.

Morning Goofs!! I hope everyone is doing well this Thursday a.m.

Spreadsheet: Could everyone please make sure that you are keeping a manual record of your miles/minutes. There are issues with the spreadsheet right now and I want to be sure that we get the right numbers for our first month. I would hate to cheat us out of any miles or minutes. Also, please be sure that you are entering your miles and times in the appropriate places. The week, month and yearly calculations are done for us, you only have to enter the daily digits. You should be entering it as miles: 8, minutes: 96 just as an example. If it is 96:14, round down (or up as the numbers dictate). Mike created this to take tons of heat off me and I would REALLY like this to work for us! Just keep a manual record in case of emergency!!

Mike, :wizard:   Recover quickly!

AFM, I had to run yesterday. It was 50 degrees and sunny here. No seriously... So I had to. It was slow and easy not wanting to push myself too hard. It was glorious though. Better than Sunday! My head cleared and I regained my focus for the day. I took the kids to school, got groceries, went to the dentist (no cavities mom) and did the laundry with the run worked in there. Then hockey practice and field hockey practice. And I wasn't even exhausted!! :yay: Today is girly girls to the gym and I have 4 miles to get in. Hockey practice again tonight but an early evening still :woohoo: . Maybe tonight dad will make it to practice too!!!!

Have a good one Goofs and keep up the great work!
