Super Goofs bringing it home for the holidays challenge thread

Good morning Goofs!!

Beth, thanks for all the info. I am a little :scared1: about the full. Not the distance but the time. I cannot wrap my head around running for over 2 hours right now. I have to remind myself that there was a time I could not wrap my head around running for 2 hours!!! :lmao: I am however, VERY excited to do both the events with all the friendly faces around!!

Mike, hang in. You know we are all here for you!!

So where was everyone yesterday? Working out hard I presume!!!!

It is LAST CHANCE WORKOUT DAY today. Our first official week of December. Only 3-1/2 more weeks to go after this in the challenge. With everyone upping their workout times, we should be on top in no time!!

From the frozen North...I did 4.6 on the elliptical yesterday. I would have gone 5 but DD13 was sitting on the floor in front of me again, waiting impatiently. My schedule only called for 4 miles so at least I did a little more... :flower3: Today is 5 miles and I will see if I can talk myself into running my 5.5 mile loop. Any extra is, well, extra at this point. It will be my longest run in 3 weeks, how sad is that....:sad2: I have to get myself back on track training wise. I am happy to report that I am down 1 pound though, YAY!! Sunday here is snow, snow and more snow. I am actually kinda looking forward to some ground cover. I would like to do some snowshoeing and skiing to mix it up some now that I have had to park my bike. We will be putting up decorations tomorrow and the Holiday Stroll in the next town is tonight. Maybe I can get another mile in for the team while pointing out what I want for Christmas to DH!!

Keep up the good work everyone!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

12/2
2 miles/31 mins

12/4
2 miles/30 mins

and I dont know if I can count this, but I had to move almost 200 toys out of a trailer, pack them into my car (this was harder than it sounds, I have a little car!) and then unload them all into to center for the Christmas Party they are having tonight. Took about 2 hours total. The kids should be happy!

and I have a race tomorrow...doing the Jingle Bell Run w/my DD...we did it last year and the DJ put our picture on his website (we decorated sweatshirts)

Christmas card list sent :thumbsup2 Anyone else who wants the list, just PM me but you have to give me your address too!!

Angie, I don't think you can count that as we are not allowed to count housework either. I will surely ask Dave though! I think we should be able to count marathon wrapping too!!!!

Quick post cause my training schedule this week is messed up. I started PT 3x/week for the next few weeks and since my appointments are at 6 am (yeah, I get to sleep in for 15 min!) then it hammers my workout itme. Nothing yesterday and today only about 35 minutes (1.5 miles and some abs). Will figure out a revamped plan over th eweekend. Fortunately, I only have onemore week of work then done for the year!

Maura

Missed going to the gym last night......:headache: .....kidlet interference! I did get some weights in though at home.

Time: 30 min

Beth

Hi Goofs!

8 miles this morning in 1:22. It felt good to be back to running. Life is slowly returning to a somewhat normal pace which is good. Now if I could just get rid of the congestion in my head, I would be good to go.

I got my Marathon numbers today. Now that was a bit scary considering how unprepared I feel. Oh well. It will be what it will be!

Cecilia

Hi Goofs,

Sorry to be MIA for a couple of days, just been really busy!

Thursday was an awesome day all around! First, I got a call that my wedding dress came in..:cool1: :cool1: It wasn't supposed to be here until February but it came in, so I got to go pick it up! Then, my Rutgers football team CRUSHED Louisville!!! It was so awesome to see them play so well. Then, my own hockey team won our game that night, 8-2!! It was just a GREAT day!!!

Unfortunately, my shin was bothering me on Wednesday during my run, so I decided not to run on THursday since I had a hockey game that night so I could rest my shin.

Yesterday was a rest day, but I got my numbers for the half and full!! Here are my numbers:
Half--35282
Full-12408

Today, I had a 6 mile run this morning. This is my first of two runs this weekend, so I did a r2/w3 interval and took it easy to save my legs for tomorrow's 12 mile LR.

Today, I am going to finish decorating my xmas tree and apartment, then I am going to head to my mom's house to try on my wedding dress for my Grandma, since she hasn't seen it yet! Then, home to scrapbook for awhile while my Fiance is out working!

Here are the numbers for the week that I didn't post yet:

THursday---1.5 hours ice hockey
Saturday---6 miles/1 hour 15 min

Lisa--That VA beach race is supposed to be fun, I really want to do it one of these years, but it will have to wait till at least 2010, as I will be on my honeymoon in Jamaica next year!! Have fun in that snow this weekend, snowshoeing and skiing sounds like FUN!!

Angie--That's a lot of toys you had to move!!! But, I am sure those that received those toys loved them!! Hope your race went well this morning!

Maura--Hope you get your training schedule worked out..I know how that is when things get in the way. Only one more week of work this year...LUCKY YOU!!!

Beth and Suzanne--WTG for getting those workouts in, you are both always so consistent!!

Cecilia--Great job on your run. I hear you about the congestion, I have been battling it for WEEKS!!!! I am slowly starting to feel better, but I am just really getting sick of it.

Susie--Hope all is well with you...we miss you here and haven't heard from you.

Hang in there Goofs!!! Keep up the good work!

Saturday...40 mins bike/7.90 miles

I went looking for running capris today incase its too cool to wear shorts for the 1/2. Running pants are too long for me, I haven't seen them in different lengths. I went to Target, found a decent pair with a pocket in the back which is on my list of musts. They fit OK, wasn't a "I have to buy them now" thing so I decided not to buy them and go across the plaza to Dick's Sporting Goods. I figured, they will have everything. Wrong. Found 3 different kinds, only one had a pocket. All were double the $ compared to the Target pair. Tried on the pocket style, didn't like the fit. Back to Target and bought them. I need to design my own clothes, it would be so much easier.

Quick drive-by for me today:

This week is a step back week for me so I only had a 12 mile LR. I had a pretty good run, despite it being quite cold this morning!

12 miles/2 hours 22 min.

I had a revelation today while on my run....I have realized that I go just as fast if I do a run 3/walk 2 interval. I just can't go very fast when I try to run the whole time, so I have decided that I am going to do my intervals during the full. I had planned on only doing this for the half, but I am now realizing that I will probably do better in the end if I do it for the full too. Now, I just have to get it in my head and not turn back when I get to the race!!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Hi Super Goofs! I am still up for ending December (and the challenge) with a bang!

Sunday's totals:

Time: 2 hours
Miles: 6

Beth

A 5K race on Saturday, so double miles, please. My Team opted out of doing it with chip time, so I had to estimate my finish -- right around 36:45

After that, we went out for another ~4.5 in 1:01:34

Today I took the kids ice skating. It was nerve-wracking for me, as that's how I broke my wrist this past February. We all survived with all bones intact, and I wracked up about 45 minutes of exercise time.

Good morning Goofs! It sounds like everyone had a very productive weekend!

I managed to get in 20 minutes of yoga and had intended on a nice run yesterday but my road did not even get a first sanding until noon and was too slippery for me to venture out on. I ended up donning the YakTrax and walking in the woods with the dogs for about 3 miles. I was not tracking myself just enjoying the peace. So another weekend of not many miles. The forecast for this week is not conducive to my running either. I guess I better get prepared for the basement!!!

Laurie, I run intervals on my LRs a lot as I tend to get really bored the higher the mileage. I run the entire race but I train in intervals. I guess that makes no sense but it works for me. I think if you are at the same pace with or without intervals, I would take advantage of those walk breaks!

Suzanne, I opt up with all my running clothes. My capris are Nike, NB or the quicker knickers from Title Nine. Neither the Nike or NB have a pocket but I wear my belt and pouch or my arm band for my iPod so it's all good. For all my LRs I have my big belt with my water bottle and there are plenty of pockets in it. Glad to hear you found a pair that make you happy, that is really all that is important!

Kim, ice skating makes me nervous too. One of our friends got cleaned out by her dog a few years ago and had a horrific tib-fib fracture complete with rods and pins. She can't run anymore, just race walk. Of course, skiing does not make me nervous at all, or snowboarding....go figure.....

Beth, consistent as usual. Without your consistent numbers, the Goofs would have gone down long ago!!

Cecilia, yay for things getting back to normal. Here's hoping that you find sanity soon. I don't think I ever had it...:rolleyes1

Anyone see where we put Mike again????

Joanne, Megan, Angie, Maura....Best of mornings and weeks to all of you!!

We are down from our original members. Those mentioned are the only active ones left. Sad but true. This is our little team:
Princessrunner
Cruellademom
Creative Beth
Groovygirls
Hockeygirl
Ksoeherlein
Jmasgat
Pungodingy
Laxdef69
Suzannews
Mla1977

Even with the loss of most of our members, we, the steady Eddies, have kept this thing going to the end. I would like to extend a huge  out to all of you for sticking it out with me! Thank you Goofs!!!!!!

Happy Monday all!

I did my LR indoors yesterday since the roads were still snow covered and the wind chill was 0 (although the cold doesn't bother me--it's the slipping around while running.) DId 9 miles--broke it into 3 3-milers with a water/fuel break in between. Ran slightly slower than my weekday runs. And I felt good! No problems with my ITB (although today it is reminding me it exists) which made me feel good. Finished in 84 minutes. Throw on another 16 minutes of stretching for an even 100 minutes.

Today I did 45 minutes of weights/stretching.

Laurie I think your interval plan sounds good. I would love to run the entire half, but figure I will break it into a series of short races. Whatever works for you. I once read a comment by Hal Higdon (don't really know the guy's background, but I follow his training plans) that he once ran a 2:29 marathon--and he walked through every water stop. I know that it does give me a psychological boost to say "Oh, I only have to run 3 miles", even if I have to say it 4 times!

Maura

12/6
1 mile/16 mins (warm up)
then the race
3.1 miles/49 mins (please double)

(DD did very well, it was her first time running since her surgery, she came in in 35:59)

12/7
1 mile/18 mins (DD & I just went out to stretch our legs out)

Thanks for your kind words Lisa. I only hope that I could help this fine team out! We might not be big in numbers, but we sure held our own with miles/hours!!! I am proud of every single one of you. This challenge really helped me be accountable for getting in my exercise time. Even when I didn't really feel like it, I got it done to help out our team. I am glad that my consistency helped our numbers!

Beth

just stupid busy.

Haven't been eating or exercising particularly well, but my kurt kinetic trainer came in, so I'll be watching MNF while "riding".

other news:

Got my first deer in two years...140 hours total in the stand for about 110 pounds of meat...oddly enough, 140 is also the number of whole miles in an Ironman...coincidence? i'll let you decide.

Daughter is turning 18 next week; my ex wife is freaking out (and somehow blaming me), one of my best friends may be getting a divorce, work is just overrun with idiots...WAY to many to hit with a hammer.

Speaking of hammers, my youngest discovered that a cat will blink when hit with a hammer. My dogs and DW's cat needed to go to the vet...$500 unplanned for dollars later, they are pronounced "healthy".

I just got knocked out of my fantasy football league...yes, I know, its not normal for a married white guy to have fantasies that include 300 lb black guys...but there you go; OH and our dishwasher went kaput, so i've been trying to fix that while arguing that my commission payments just got slashed by 60% in error...but the book keeper is just so SURE that she is right, even though I have carefully and (i thought) in an idiot proof manner demonstrated that they are undercalculating margin.

Jeez!

OK, I'm just rambling now, so shuttin er down for now.

Mike

Wow, Mike. You've certainly got a lot going on. I have nothing at all to report today... I'm sick. Fever, sore throat, body aches and fatigue like you wouldn't believe. (And yes, I had a flu shot.) I'd love to report the herculean effort it took to drag myself out of bed, take a shower, and eat a little something as my "exercise" for the day. These minor activities left me feeling like I just ran 9 miles, uphill both ways. I hope to have some real miles to report soon!
