So...we are starting with 13412 miles to go!!!

Updated 2/18... 13884 miles to go!!

Updated 2/20...15204 miles to go!!!

Time to get on the treadmill :rotfl2:

13,400 doesn't sound so bad. I should break 1600 this year (in running alone), so even if I adjust for the Feb-Dec time period, I should still be good for 1450 miles or so. We can do it, Goofs!

Finally back to school! They've been out since Feb. 3.

Hockey tournaments all last weekend = 0 mom work out time. I'm going to swim tonight during their practices.

Cable guy is here right now. It has been out since 2/7. Missing the Olympics is making me very grumpy! We still don't have home phone or internet until Friday. Ugh! I can't complain too loudly, though. We didn't lose power even though our power line is lying on the snow and we only lost heat for 2 days. I'm looking forward to life getting back to our version of normal!

Wow M, out of school since the 3rd?!! Will your kids have to make up the days or will they be excused? Thats alot of days to make up!

Hey Suzanne. Sorry I have been MIA. I have kinda been on a hiatus. :rolleyes1
What miles do you need? What we did last year? I was confused on your earlier post. I'm sure I missed something!

And hey Goofs!!! :grouphug:

Hey Shan,

How many miles is your house from WDW? I am adding that up and then each month post how many miles you covered and I will subtract from the group total.

Good Morning Goofs. I had a post almost finished then I did something and it disappeared. Ugh.

M: I cannot believe your kids have missed so much school. The snow has really interupted your lives. Hope the phone and internet are back soon.

Suzanne: Hope the sinus problem is better. Don't worry too much about the Princess. Sometimes when you go into a race a bit under trained you'll lower your expectations, then you end up enjoying the race a bit more. Hope that's the case for you. In any case, enjoy the race!!

Ashleigh: Congrats on finishing week 2. I'm glad your cold is better. It's great that you have your sights on a race. It really helps to motivate.

Maura: Congrats on the 10K. I hope you are enjoying the Olympics. My DH and DS8 are really addicted. Good thing it's school vacation week. I've seen a few events, but I'd rather get the extra sleep. Sorry for all the stress about your son's deferred decision. Very frustrating.

Rich: Hope you've managed to make it outside for a run.

Lauren: Welcome.

Last week I got in 2 out of 3 runs. My son was home sick one day and he didn't want me to leave him to go down stairs to the TM. I tried to get him to take a nap, but I ended up falling asleep. So far so good this week, 2 for 2. I got outside yesterday despite the snowy sidewalks. Found a nice clear section and did laps. Luckily it was about 1 mile per lap, so it wasn't too monotonous. Got a short swim in this morning after hitting the snooze button twice.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Suzanne, mine is 472.
Are we keeping a google spreadsheet like last year or are we just giving you our monthly totals each month?
Thanks! :thumbsup2

Just updated the miles.

Shan, just post your mileage once a month towards the end of the month and I will take care of it.

Hope everyone is having a great day. We are suppose to get up to 74 degrees on Sunday, its a heat wave!! Can't wait for summer, bring on the 90's.

TGIF, everyone!

We will have another new Goof here shortly--Jeannette/roselark.

Shan Good to see you. Hope you're doing well.

Cindy Ah, the old "Try to get the "child" to take a nap trick!:lmao: Hope the extra sleep helped. Sleep is just as important as training sometimes.

Suzanne Send just a little of the warm our way. I am not going to get my "usual" mid-winter break in Florida or someplace warm, so I could use a few degrees up here. Although it is sunny now and 30F now, so not all bad.

And now, I should get up and go swim myself--before more Olympics come on. Exciting hockey game last night between Canada and Switzerland. But will Team USA ever win a curling game--disastrous performances!

Maura

Hello everyone!!! I am so excited to be joining the Super Goofs!

I should probably say something about myself. My name is Jeanette, I am 36, married, no human kids, but we do have 2 cats and an adorable 11month old American Eskimo puppy. I live in Madison, WI.

I want to lose approx 114 pounds. I have been overweight literally all of my life. The smallest I remember being was when I first met my husband, and I was a size 14. I was doing great getting my weight down at that time, but love and married life made me happy, but sedentary. I am also a computer gamer (I blame DH), which doesn't help much. I have tried through the years, but have not been successful at sticking to anything for long.

Last Monday, something came over me and I registered for the 2011 Half-Marathon. I decided I needed something big...realy big if I was going to stay motivated. I am addicted to WDW, so what better motivator?I told everyone in my department at work, posted it in Facebook, started a blog, and sent the link to everyone in my address book. My thought is that it would be really embarassing to have to tell all these people that I gave up, so that should be a big motivator. In the past, I was alway private about my weightloss attempts.

I have started a conservative C25K program and I am using the GoWear Fit for my weight loss management. So far it is going great!

I have signed up for a 5K in June and a 10K in October.

Anyway, long story short, I am crazy and now everyone knows it :)

Welcome Jeanette!!

If you would like to play along, please post your mileage from home to WDW. At the end of each month, post how many miles you have walked, jogged, ran, biked etc and I will subtract from our team totals. We are hoping to make it to WDW by the fall. Just something else to keep everyone motivated!!

Welcome Jeanette!
You're going to do fantastic! There is no better motivator than WDW! :thumbsup2

Last night and today have been a little rough. I am not sure when, but apparently I strained muscles in my lower back. I pushed myself on my workout Thursday night, so that could have been it. It started hurting about 2pm Friday afternoon and kept getting worse. I had originally planned for 30 min on the treadmill today, but took it easy and did 15 min at a very leisurely pace. Afterward, my back started to feel a lot better. I am just a little sore now when I move certain ways. Hopefully I will be able to get my 30 min in tomorrow...though I will probably keep the pace slow and incline low. I have to keep reminding myself that this is a journey, not a race. :rolleyes1

I've been pretty busy lately and not able to DIS much. Between DD4's birthday, family visiting, and travelling for business, I've been lucky to get any workouts in.

Jeanette - Welcome! Congratulations on your decision to register for the 2011 Half. C25K is a great way to start as are setting goals of smaller races leading up to your Half. Take care of your back and don't push too hard. It's a great motto you have about this being a journey and not a race. Best of luck to you and please keep us posted!

Maura - Curling has been my guilty pleasure of the Olympics. I don't know what about it is so captivating to me. I've also been hooked on the short track speed skating, skiing and snowboarding.

AFM, I competed in two races this morning. We had a 2-mile followed by a 5.3-mile. I decided to run both. I had originally planned to jog the flat 2-mile to warm up for the hilly 5.3. For those who remember my tales of doing battle with my arch-nemesis, he was there again today. I haven't been able to come close to beating him since I hurt my knee last year. I slowed down a bit and he has gotten a lot faster.

For a little back story for the new Goofs, he is a guy in our local running club who doesn't even know I exist. He first caught my attention as he looks a lot like a weird guy I used to know. After several races, I noticed he was finishing less than a minute ahead of me in nearly every race we competed in. After that, I started targeting him in all my races as someone I tried to beat. No matter how hard I tried, he seemed to just edge me out by as little as ten seconds. I've only beaten him twice in nearly 20 races. I know, it's very stalker-ish.

Anyway, I saw him at the registration tables this morning. I have pretty much accepted that I won't be beating him for several months. During the 2-mile race, I had about half a mile to go when I saw him in front of me. I decided to really push myself to try to beat him. I knew I probably wouldn't stand a chance in the 5.3 but I'd love to beat him in the 2. He seemed to be speeding up a bit as he got closer to the finish but then I went into a full sprint. I passed him with probably 100m left and crossed the finish with an (exhausted) sense of accomplishment! :yay: Sure, I probably ruined my chances of finishing the 5.3 strong, but it was worth it.

The 5.3-mile went pretty well. I actually finished strong and passed 11 people in the last mile. I beat last year's time by 1:39 so I was happy about that. My arch-nemesis finished 8 minutes ahead of me as I kind of expected.

I checked the race photos and my times online tonight and found my arch-nemesis didn't even sign up for the 2-miler! I checked the photos and he wasn't in the first lap. He was apparently just out jogging around the block to warm up and here I thought I had beaten him. The only way I can barely beat him is if he isn't even racing! Ugggggh. I give up. :confused3

Happy Sunday, everyone! We are seeing some rare winter sunshine here in Erie, PA! It is sooo nice!

Jeannette-Welcome! I am a new Super Goof this year as well. I am in week 3 of C25K. I did this program about 2 years ago and it went great! It really does help you ease into running. I, too, am planning on running in a Disney 1/2 marathon next year, but I am hoping to do the Princess 1/2. Good luck to you!:cheer2:

Steve-Your story cracked me up! :rotfl: I am super competative, too, and I can totally see myself doing something like that! Nice job beating your time in the 5.3 from last year! Good luck in your quest to beat your arch-nemesis!

Things are going well here. My C25K journey is going well. I can't wait until a little more of the snow melts so I can take a run outside. Running on the treadmill is SOOOOO boring...even when watching TV.

DH and I are excited to watch the USA against Canada today in hockey! We are huge Pens fans, so it will be tough to cheer against Sidney Crosby...I have to say I probably would be happy with either team winning! It should be a great game, though!

My weekend...

Half #9 for me today, finished 3 seconds faster than last time! It was pretty windy, esp the parts along the ocean (first 2 miles and roughly last 4 miles), I think someone said the temp got to 40 or 41 degrees, and it was sunny almost the whole way. HUGE thanks to timmac, who volunteered, gave me a pep talk before, a much appreciated "kick" to the finish, and a congrats at the end, THANKS TIM!!! Blistered again, one about the size of a nickel and one about the size of a half dollar...my fault, sneaks went bad and I only got 11 miles on the new ones before the race. 'Course I blister every Half, so maybe it wasn't the shoes fault?

Joanne, were you there? (Half at the Hamptons)

Angie Congrats on your PR! Glad the new shoes didn't cause too many problems.

Ashleigh Wasn't that a great hockey game! We are Wings fans (but we can all play nice over here!) and it was sort of funny to see Brian Rafalski cause problems for his coach--Mike Babcock-- by scoring two goals. Glad your C25K is going well.

Steve Was "catch my arch-nemesis" on your goal list this year? ;) Glad your races went well.

Jeannette Hope your back feels better and it's very wise to back off when feeling injured. One of my goals this year is to add more yoga to my XT to help with flexibility. I'm good about stretching after I run, But more overall flexibility , I think, will be helpful and I'm hoping it helps me avoid more injuries.

As for me, did my 7 yesterday, which went fine. Beautiful day--mid to upper 30's, sunny, dry roads. Unlike today--snowy with 5-8" coming down now! Maybe another round of XC skiing is in order. Better go unbury my skisfrom the back patio!

Maura

Steve - I have a coworker on the Women's USA Curling Team, Nichole Joraanstad :) Also, congrats on beating your arch-nemesis! I do the same thing a lot. I pick one person and make it my goal to out-do them...without their knowledge of course! It helps me challenge myself.

Angie - WOW! #9? That is awesome! And congrats on the time!

Ashleigh - Thanks for the encouragement! I am looking forward to getting to the running part :) The C25K program I am doing is 28 weeks long and is just walking the first 4 weeks. I am just starting week 3.

Maura - We (Madison) just got hit with that same storm but got lucky with only about an inch. My boss lives in Milwaukee and they have 4 so far.

I did not get my 30 min in yesterday like I had hoped. Sunday is my laundry day so I was up and down the stairs all morning. DH and I went to a zombie movie party at a friend's and then we went shopping. By the time I got home at 7, by back was pretty much done.

Not really sure how this happened, but my friend got me to promise that if I cross the finish line at the 1/2, I will let her take me to get a tattoo...I promise I was NOT drinking.
