Sunwing????

I don't think it's unfair at all. For me, all information is welcome. Good and bad. Personally, I can make a much more informed decision based on all of the information I can aquire. It's great when your flight goes well but it's nice to know what to expect when there are delays, etc.

Trust me, after what I just went through with Spirit Airlines out of Niagara Falls, I wish I had known about Ted's link. Live and learn.

I agree with you LSmith, I also want to see the "good and bad".
That was my point ,the "complaints board" is just that...complaints.
Unfortunately most forums and boards are for complaining (with the exception of Disboards ,of course :goodvibes). When things go "right" during a flight or hotel stay, most of us have no incentive to write about it.

I'm sorry to hear about your Spirit experience (I was considering using them myself at some point :thumbsup2.....thanks for the heads up).
May I ask what the problems were ?

We used Spirit in May for the first time to fly to Myrtle Beach. Ultra cheap. Flight down was fine as long as you don't mind the graffiti and fencrusted ood on the backs of the seats and the drunken flight attendant. Which, by the way, we didn't considering that we paid $200 for 4 of us return. Although, there were many people who paid 4 times what we did and in that case I wouldn't have been too happy.

On the return flight, Spirit decided that they couldn't land at Niagara Falls because of the weather (it was drizzling rain and a 10 mph tail wind). After circling around the Niagara airport for more than an hour, the pilot was told he had to return to Myrtle Beach. We were then told to go through security and back to the Spirit counter to find out our next move. This was a Sunday. The girl at the counter told us that they could book us on their next flight out which was THURSDAY. No apologies and the best they could do was return half of our airfare which was about $100. No vouchers for hotel, food, etc.

There were a whole lot of furious people at the airport. Spirit even hired a police officer to stand there to quell the angry mob. Basically we were SOL. Since we absolutely HAD to be back in Toronto the next day we booked a flight with Direct Air for five times the price for the next morning at 7:30 which was the first flight out.

Direct Air was not much better but that is another story.

My point is, if I had done any homework on Spirit, I would have known that they only fly out on certain days and this is exactly what happens with delays and their customer service is non-existent. Most of the passengers that were on the plane were ignorant of what would happen in this case. We were all saying to each other at the airport that we must find a place on the internet to warn others of our outrageously shockingly crappy treatment.

I have flown hundreds and hundreds of times on many different airlines and have never had this experience.

BTW I have given you the undramatic version of this story. It was much worse, personally.

That said, I'm sure that there could be 1000's of people that have flown with Spirit that have nothing but good things to say about them.

I was pricing out flights for christmas/new years this year out of buffalo and toronto and for 200.00 more (50 per person) we can fly out of toronto and it includes bags and has great inflight service. In May I flew southwest to Orlando but then I got flight including tax for under 200, those prices are not available for my dates.....so I am going sunwing and I will NOT have to worry about blinding white-outs like the last 2 christmas' driving to Buffalo!! phew.....
So I have my flights booked and paid for with sunwing and booked with an ontario travel agent so that if something happens with the company I will be covered by the TICO fund.

We're also planning on going to WDW at Christmas time. Does anyone know when would be the best time to buy the Sunwing tickets for the flights? Is there a sale coming up in the next few months for those dates or do the prices just get more expensive from now on?

Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

With Sunwing, I've bought tickets and then seen prices keep going up for the same flight the closer it got to departure, but I've also seen prices go down. Soon after I bought Sunwing tickets last October for my Feb 2011 WDW trip, the price went up $70 per ticket!

I usually keep watching prices to see if they go down, and buy them no later than 4 months before the trip.
