Sunshine Terrace Lobster Roll

I'm really appreciative of this thread. I've had really good lobster rolls when passing through Maine and since I'm a fan of CHH, I was looking forward to trying the lobster roll. I should've known better. I'll still with my usual favorites when we eat there. :)

FYI.....as of January they have replaced that BIG lobster roll at Captain's Grill with smaller lobster sliders.

NOOOOOOOO :headache: Exactly what is a lobster slider :confused3 I wonder if since they have lobster, I could ask them to grill a hot dog roll and make one :rolleyes1

I too am from New England and ALMOST ordered it... then thought better of it. From the picture it is NOTHING like what I consider a lobster roll... which would NOT have mayo in it like that.

I'd say pass.

Yep...that looks like a real lobster roll. Another New Englander here. We're from CT where we have ours with drawn butter, but the mayo version is the one and only in Maine. Either way, you would be looking at large chunks of lobster in a roll, just like this one.

Butter is the only way to go :thumbsup2

This is just not true. At all. 99% of places you can choose Mayo or drawn butter.

The Captain's Grille lobster roll was the only thing we liked in our whole meal. Definitely not going back now. The F&W lobster roll was fairly small, but very tasty.

Good to know. Every time I have gone to Maine they have had the mayo ones but it was specifically the bar Harbor area. so maybe it is regional.
Thanks for the info :)

WOW! Well, here is a vote for the Mayo camp (which I view as a food group but don't want my fish swimming in it). Thanks for the tip on the Yacht Club roll - will have to try it (or the *shudder* sliders). I think I will ask about them grilling a hot dog bun! Brilliant suggestion!

I had the sliders, they were really good. It was basically the bun for a lobster roll made into 2 smaller rolls, served the same way.

We went to the Captain's Grille for dinner and the lobster rolls were not on the menu. I had read about them and asked the server if I could order them anyway. The chef came out and I told him there were rave reviews on the Dis about his lobster rolls. He said he would make them for me (and the other person in our party) He was very nice and gracious.

I would definitely order it again.

For a comparison, here is a picture of the lobster roll from Captain's Grille. Looks VERY different than the CHH one:

That looks amazing. The mayonaise one looks disgusting. :scared:

Well that settles it. I need to make some dining changes to I can get this in for lunch! Glad to hear the sliders aren't just a wee, untoasted bun. Can't wait for this one!

That doesn't look like the lobster roll that Captain's Grille used to serve. First of all, Captain's Grille served it on a plate (instead of a paper basket), and secondly the lobster mix was the mayo version (not a version with drawn butter). I had it over the summer, and it was definitely a mayo base (authentic and quite good, but I also prefer lobster rolls with butter).

Here's a pic of the lobster roll as Captain's Grille served it (the sliders are also mayo based).

Well, I am just a midwestener...but we LOVE the CHH lobster rolls! Big chunks of lobster. Lots of flavor. That 2nd one posted looks gross to me - too dry.

Sorry, that isn't a pic from the Captain's Grill. If you right click on that pic and then go to properties it is a picture from a NH restaurant called Anthony Spier's. Here is their website with the same pic posted on it:

I had the lobster roll at CHH last week. While not nearly as good as the ones in New England with large pieces of lobster, the CHH one is real lobster IMHO, but very small shredded pieces, much filler and too much mayo. Mine had only one large piece of lobster. I think they have both celery and onions in it. A real lobster roll should not have these in there, but when the price is only $9.99 at Disney, it's not surprising. Next time I'm going back to my favorite, the tuna sandwich. :)

We love the lobster roll at CHH. Just call us a bunch of midwestern rubes I guess. :rotfl: I had to go back and get a second one on our last trip. I will go back again for sure. But I like mayo, thank you very much. :) It may not be "real", but if one is not trying to compare it to a "real" lobster roll, and judges it just on it's own, it's delicious! Kinda like expecting a "real" taco at Taco Bell. Not gonna happen. But I still like Taco Bell once in awhile ;)

We actually didn't love the ones at the F&W festival last year. Thought they were too dry. But they had no mayo at all I don't think.

I guess it's all in the expectations.

Interesting with the fake picture. odd as well.

FWIW ~ here in Maine the pictures with the mayo, onions and celery would be called a Lobster Salad not a Lobster Roll. Lobster rolls are made with clear lobster meat and your choice of mayo or drawn butter.

Also good to know here is if you want it with no mayo and drawn butter ~ just ask!

Anywho.....the Lobster Salad sandwichs are probably a good option if you don't have a real lobster roll every Friday night.... but if you do... this is not a viable replacement!

Nice job detective.

And now I feel like going to NH for that lobster roll. Mmmmmmmmmm

I just didn't think it looked like ANYTHING I had ever seen at WDW before. If it was, I have sure have been missing out all these years. Plus a poster before me said it didn't look like it as well because of the paper container.
