Sunshine Protection Act

Going to hate it. Time math in my old cranky computer code is already hard enough without Florida being different.

I wish they would do it everywhere not just Florida.

I agree. There is research that kids get more exercise when there is more daylight and many other benefits as well.

I seriously spent $70 on a light to combat the winter blues. I walk around turning on lights in the house, then DH starts turning off lights and I am like NO, don't turn off the lights or I will be asleep by 7PM!

My daughter just left for a school lacrosse game. I laughed and told DH with this change the school is going to save money on those stadium lights for every evening sport game. DH can cut the grass after work versus on Saturday mornings.

It's good that you live in Georgia then.

:)
If only the code I support only ran in Georgia but it runs all across the country.

This will require hundreds of thousands if not millions of computers to be updated to know about Florida's new special case.

I am so excited. I get winter blues and hate sitting here right now at 7PM with it dark outside. I am gonna love the Sunshine protection Act!!!!

Any others?

I don't even want to start a debate but where I live it's called Daylight Savings Time. Where are you, NinaBella, where it is called Sunshine Protection Act?? And why do they call it that? Just curious. :)

Sorry, I asked Nina. I really didn't know. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything.

Okay, sorry, I guess I need to step away too. Seems like it is a touchy subject for some reason.

I was excited over the idea of simple things, like coming home from work walking my dogs in the evening with daylight. Right now, DH and I go to work when it is dark and come home when it is dark. Just another reason I prefer having a few hours of daylight after work.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 which changed the start and end dates of daylight savings time is estimated to have cost $50,000 in time and labor costs to update software and computers to reflect the new start and end dates. In 2005 that worked out to $350 million dollars spent by private companies in the US alone. That does not take into account the time and labor costs for each and every government agency to make changes to all of their computers and systems.

This change by Florida will require similar changes to computers all across the world.

I wish they would do it everywhere not just Florida.

I agree. I read that Connecticut wanted to do something similar, but the rest of New England & NY weren't on board. :(

It'll be hard on those who live in Georgia but work or go to school in Florida. I wish all of the states would agree on one set time for their timezone and not spring forward/fall back at all.

I'm envious. Not only that you will be doing away with DST, but that you live in Florida, lol. 3 of my 4 favorite states would have no time change if it goes through...just need to get CO on board and then move to one of them from IL!It takes me 2 weeks to recover and my poor pooch would always suffer being hungry before I got home since his stomach clock never changed
