Sunrise Safari

If you had gotten repeatedly whacked in the head and the back by a screaming brat behind you, ruining an experience you paid $100 for, I'm sure you would have been upset as well.

Anne, I cannot believe this! I mean, what kind of parents would allow their child to behave that way? You were certainly right to be p.o.'d! Patience has its limits!!!

I have a 2 yr old, and she'll be 3 and one day when she goes on the sunrise safari. She loves all things animals (I could park her in front of the elephants at the zoo for hours without a problem), and I really think she'll love the adventure. However, if that morning she wakes up on the "wrong side of the bed", for whatever reason, she WON'T be on the safari. People are just so rude sometimes! You have to expect the unexpected, but a bratty child was most likely bratty before they got on the ride! I think I'd give myself to the crocs out of sheer embarassment if Dierdre was smacking someone in the head (Or anywhere else!).

BTW... thanks for the idea of gift baskets, Lizzie!

Your welcome Erin.

I really can't take all the credit, since I did read about them on these boards. But I think they really are a great idea, and can't wait to see the kids faces when the get them.

My guys are the same with animals Erin. We live close to a six flags and they have a drive thru wild animal safari. The boys love it. We go at least 3 times a week. While it is cool, we are still inside our cars with closed windows.

Can't wait for this experience. I've seen pictures where the animals are right by the jeeps. I'm so excited. I can't believe I have 28 days to go.

Did you ask the parents to have the child stop hitting you? It is unbelievable that some parents do not realize their child is hitting someone else - or that they do not care. You might have requested different seating from the host. Seems if you had raised your hand and said - is there another seat available somewhere as this child continually hits me and is ruining my safari - maybe everyone would have gotten the point.

Of course I did! But the child was soooo out of control it didn't matter. He was hitting and kicking the father as well!

There was no way to change my seat. Your on the safari vehicle. Once it starts, it doesn't stop. Believe me, if it had been that simple I would have done so.

This was a prime case of a stupid parent taking their kid someplace that the kid couldn't handle, and the idiot was too stupid to have the forethought to think about it, plan for it, and have any consideration for others.

I actually really liked the idea of having Simba's Clubhouse open on Safari mornings. AKL should really look into this.

We actually don't know if we are going to do the SS when we are there in October. If it falls on a day when MNSSHP is at night then we probably won't because I don't want my kids up at 7 a.m. and then on the go until midnight with no guarantee of rest.

DH and I may do the SS While the kids slept in with Grandma. If we don't have anything major to do that day then we would probably wake the kids up because I know they would love it.

I think it all depends on the day, the mood the child is in, etc.

Who knows. I was really looking forward to it and then I thought about how wonderful it would be just to sleep in. I can get up at 6:30 when I'm at home.

Oh Lizzie, 28 days??? I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous! Look at my pathetic counter... I think it may be broken. Really, I think that the time is moving up instead of down! ;)

Floridafam... I get up earlier than 6:30 at home so that is actually sleeping in!!! We're in the same boat as you as we plan to go to MVMCP that night (we're going on a Tuesday). We figure the safari and the party will be it for that day. After the breakfast (and maybe a quick splash on Kali for me!), we're headed back to the hotel for a quiet afternoon of napping and swimming. I wouldn't stress too much about doing both on the same day...

I too thinks Simbas Cubhouse is a great idea, however, they only take kids 4 and up at night.

That wouldn't work for the Safari. I personally think a 4 year old can handle it. My 4 year old and 2 year old will be coming with us.

But if it is to serve a purpose then SImba's would have to be open to kids younger than 4. A lot of parents with younger kids don't have sitting options at that hour. Yes I know there is fairy godmothers, but there is no way I'm leaving my 2 year old with a total stranger in a hotel room.

Anyway for parents that are willing to do that, I think Simba's would be a great idea.

Mrsltg,

My counter started at 275 days. You will get there. I promise :D

Lizzie64,

I know about the leaving the kids with a total stranger thing-I read somewhere on the internet that Universal just fired one of their employees for assault on a 4 or 5 yr old. My kids have only stayed with their grandparents. Anyway, I'm getting off topic.

It did sound like a good idea for some families.

Originally, the SS was a must do for us but now I am looking at it differently. I don't want cranky kids for the rest of the day because they had to get up so early. I think we'll take the wait and see approach and if we don't go, oh well.

floridafam - I hadn't heard about that. And besides, my boys have only stayed with their grandmother as well.

Just make sure if you cancel it is within 48 hours. I believe that's their cancellation policy.

I cancelled our safari reservation yesterday. I really hated to do it, but we were only staying at AKL Concierge in order to do the safari, so it was going to cost us about $600 just for that. I was hoping for a bigger discount with AP's, but nothing. We got another night at DVC instead, using points. Maybe someday we'll get to do it, something for our wish list! Meanwhile, I booked a safari tour at Busch Gardens. While not as long, I have heard that we actually get to get off the jeep a couple of times and interact with a giraffe or other not-so-wild animal. I know this will thrill my DD no end. And it's only $30 per. They also have an extended version of this, lasting two hours for $100 per, with even more animal interaction. We decided to add lunch and Front of line privileges for some rides instead. Diana
