Sunproof Clothing

Any recommendations of what and where to get lightweight, long sleeved clothing for men with UPF ratings of 40 or more? My husband is having radiation on his arm and is not supposed to let it get exposed to the sun. That can be a little difficult in WDW. We're going to try some we found on LLBean and I've seen some from Columbia on line. Any other suggestions?

They sell a product called Solumbra. It is expensive but wears well, easy to care for and is a durable medical device. This company is serious about avoiding sun exposure and many people with melanomas and other serious skin cancers swear by them.

My husband wears the Super Active shirts and loves them. He has been using the ones he has for almost 10+ years, and no, the design has not changed. I wear the beach cover ups and love them. Neither of us have ever had a burn while wearing Solumbra and really don't get any notable amount of sun.

You could try the Columbia fishing type shirts as well. We have also had good luck with the rash guards that Lands End sells but that would definitely be used only for swimming or water parks. Good luck!

WDW is awfully hot in the upcoming months so those long sleeves sound like torture. What about something that could be applied to or taped over the spots in question? Maybe a sheath of some kind? An Ace bandage sort of thing which would leave most of the arm open to lose heat?

Ron Jon Surf Shop has online shoppping and their rashguards are spf 50. They are about half the cost of other sites.

There is a company called Sunguard that makes a laundry detergent add-in that puts an SPF of 30 onto your existing clothing. I think it lasts up to 20 washes.

I'm not sure if they have one with a higher SPF, but it is worth checking out.

DH's Dr. at the burn center recommended Coolibar. The quality is on par w/solumbra, but at more reasonable prices.

Oooh! I was just at the Dermatologists last week and they had a catalog from Coolibar in the exam room that I got to peruse while I waited for the doc to come in. Stuff was really good looking and the prices seemed reasonable..

I have a family member who is a skin cancer survivor. He wears the LL Bean long-sleeved Tropicwear shirts exclusively when he is in the sun. We've all bought them for him for holidays so he has a good sized collection of them now. They are very lightweight and work really well. The sleeves can be rolled up when he is inside.

Great idea! I actually ordered a shirt from Sun Precautions and I didn't even see these. We may need to give these a try, too. Thanks so much! We both grew up in Florida (albeit many years ago) so we do remember how hot it can be!! Thanks, again.
