Sunpass Purchase and activate

There is a construction project on I-4 in the Orlando area...not in the immediate Disney area, but closer to the Sanford way. I plan on taking the 417 bypass and have already purchased my sunpass...very easy ordering from their website and have already downloaded the app on my phone. I have ez pass....too bad they didn't do the standardization a little sooner. But to me, it was $20 well spent.

If you drive thru an unmanned booth and don't have the exact change, you will be fined....not just charged the 75 cents. If it is a rental, they will fine the rental company, who in turn will come after you for the $$. The portable transponder will be great for when we rent a car...you just add it on the app on your phone. Actually, I think you may have a day or two to do that. We all know how phones don't work all that great in the concrete rental car lots at MCO.

I have never been fined, they just send you a bill in the mail along with a photo of your license plate. They do charge an administration fee though. Make sure you notify the rental company that you have a sunpass. Many of the rental cars now have a sunpass built into in (they install the sunpass sticker) and charge you what gets placed on the sunpass along with their "fees."

I did an exit/reentry at a 75 cent exit/enter at Oviedo last month. I noticed there were envelopes to take if you didn't have exact change (I did). Is there a penalty if you do that, or do you just send them a check for 75 cents?

Haha. Never seen the envelopes. Guess I should slow down when going through those things. I guess mail them a check for the ¢.75 or let them bill you. There is no fine. It's an administration fee. It does not go on your license and its not a ticket.

I've taken envelopes twice and mailed a check for 75 cents. If you have a rental car, they can't send you a bill. If you read the fine print on the rental agreements, there is a clause about a surcharge and if I remember correctly, it was not cheap. In my state there is a hefty fine, or used to be, for going thru the easy pass without a transponder. I agree, their "fee" for the transponder is over the top....hence, my decision to get my own portable one. Can get me to WDW 10 minutes faster.
