Day one of our trip. Mimi 51 yr. old grandmother(me); Braden, 9 yr. old granddaughter; Mamie, one day away from being 3 yrs. old granddaughter, Dean 23 yr. old son to Mimi (girls uncle) and Kacee, Dean's wife of 16 months.
We arrived at the AKL around 9 A.M. Room is not ready, but we are. So we check our luggage and head to AK. There was a short wait for security check for anything you are carrying, i.e., baby bag, purse, fanny pack, etc. I did not find the park overly crowded this day but there were still lines and the shows were packed. Lines were manageable and we did not use any fast passes this day. We saw the Lion King show and Flights of Wonder. The park closed at 5 P.M. as it is getting dark by then.
We returned to the AKL and our room was ready. When we checked in, I had told them it was going to be Mamie's birthday on Monday. They asked who her favorite characters were and also her sisters. When we entered our room Sunday afternoon, there were two cards on the dresser, a birthday card which read: " To Mamie, Happy Birthday from your pals! It contained a 5 X 7 glossy photo of Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore and they had all signed it! Braden had a personalized card with a picture and signatures from Mickey and Minnie.
What a great way to start their vacation. They were soooooooooooo excited. Pixie dust filled the room.
We had a Savannah room and the animals were always in view. What I liked best was seeing and hearing the animals in the dark. I have always seen animals in the light at zoos, etc. But seeing them in the dark really adds to the magic.
I'll post more on our trip later, but this basically was our day 1.

:DI CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO POST THAT THEY HAD ALSO LEFT MAMIE A STUFFED ZEBRA AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT!!!

night.....and to be that close........thanks so much for giving us your first day......

Hi! Since you were at AKL recently, please let me ask you a few questions. My family plans to visit next Thanksgiving and stay at AKL. I choose it because I expect it to be an interesting place to be. Since the parks close early in the fall, I want a resort that offers something to do. I read that they have story time by the fire and a special viewing area to see the animals. Please tell me if you can think of other benefits of staying there. Thanks!!

There are many, many areas for animal viewing. At 6:30 every evening there is story telling around the fire outside. I say "outside" because there is also a fireplace area inside. Both have rocking chairs for sitting.

I would think there would be plenty to do. Don't forget that even if the parks close early, Disney Quest will still be open in Downtown Disney. That could really keep you busy.

Sounds like a wonderful beginning. That was really sweet of them to leave the pictures and stuffed zebra for your granddaughters. :)
