This info is from someone else but I wanted to give it its own post:

I just wanted to let all fellow members to be aware of a gas station named SUNCOAST ENERGYS @ 5928 BUTLER NAT'L DR. ORLANDO, FL 32822. This station is directly across the street from Thrifty & Hertz Rental car location closest to MCO Airport.

We went to returned our rental car on Sat. 2/23/08 (after a great cruise) and had to fill up the gas tank before returning(or pay 6.99 per gallon) this station charged us $ 4.499 per gallon..What a rip off. They should be ashamed of them selves screwing people like this.

After some research it appears that this has been going on for sometime, they are the only one close to the airport and car rental places so they know that can screw travelers.

There are no signs outside the station listing prices so we should have know better, but they are praying on the traveler being in a hurry.

Why the state of FL has not shut them down is beyond me. FL relies so much on tourism that I can't beleive they let them continue to RIP OFF THE PUBLIC....

So anyone flying out of MCO and renting a car, PLEASE go about another mile and fill up your car.( If I had only known that before) Save your self some money. Tell all other Cruisers if you can!!

Yes that station is well known to some of us. :rolleyes1

For future reference.... You can fill up at the last stations right there on 536 and still have a full tank when you get out to the airport.

Also, about a mile or so north from the bad station (the one near the cracker barrel) There are cheaper stations with normal posted prices....

I don't think it's just a Florida thing. You always have to be careful about stations that are most convenient to rental car return places IMO.

It stinks if you have to pay their inflated prices. But other than the price not being posted, which someone should crack down on if you ask me, it's not much different than other opportunistic business practices, is it?

I rented a car in Phoenix about 3 weeks after the superbowl and the guy commented on my amazing rate (thank you hotwire) and we started chatting about what folks were paying for the same car just a couple of weeks earlier. Yikes!

I could give other examples as well, but one of the first ones that came to mind would probably get me blasted big time on this board, so I'll leave it alone.
;)

It's a good reminder/heads up for folks though OP
Thanks

Sounds like a Bargain. Cheapest here is still around $10 / Gallon !!

Phil

No different than paying $6 for a $2 soda at a ballgame, or $3 for a $0.50 bottle of water at WDW.

Nothing stopping folks from pulling out and backtracking to a different, cheaper gas station if they want...they are perfectly within their rights to sell at that price, and must be selling enough to stay in business.

i"m curious, how much is a gallon of gas at other stations. since i'm from canada i probably would not know what i should be paying. we are about 1.05 a litter right now and i could not figure out how much that would make a gallon if my life depended on it.
anyways how much gas would you use if you went from the airport to wdw and then to the port next morning. i'm going to have to factor this in.
and if anyone is real energinic, getting the directions from wdw to the cracker barral and then to the port would be good to have......anyone?

I live in Orlando & am familiar with that gas station. I've heard that they've been given citations for price gouging, but it continues. I live right near Disney & when my family is in town & rents a car they fill up near Disney & have never been given a had time by the car rental agencies.

I could understand if it were maybe 50 cents more than the other stations because of the location, but I've seen it as much as $2 or $3 higher than other tourist areas.

I just got nailed for the $4.599 per gallon deal at the Suncoast station. I disagree with the notion that it's just like ballpark prices. I've done my share of travelling and expect to pay the "near airport" premium gor gasoline. But NOT a forty percent premium. I have no hope of dealing with the gas station management regarding its pricing but I will certainly let Wendy's know that they have lost my business.

What's Wendy's got to do with it? Not doing business with them because someone has a franchise within this overpriced gas station would be like not buying 2 liter coke's any more because they sell that there too.

Folks, I'm sending this over to the Transportation forum whre it's a lot more relevant. :)

We've filled up here a few times to top off the tank right before heading into the airport, but I'd sure hate to put more than a gallon or two in. It's amazing what they charge, but without competition what are you really gonna do...

If you can't see the gas prices from the street,
(1) Feel free to drive in, look at the pump closely, and drive back out if you don't like what you see.
(2) Chances are, if the price is not posted prominently, the price is quite high to begin with.

Drive a little further north on Semoran and you will find more gas stations.

Or, go back down Semoran (south) to the last light in sight, turn right (west) onto Frontage, go a little more than a mile to the next light (Conway), take a left, and a nice cheap gas station is right there to top off at.

If you came back from Disney via I-4 East (northeast) to 528 (Beach Line; Bee Line) east, get off of 528 at its exit 9 Tradeport, left (north) and cross under and the aforementioned gas station is right there. When done get into middle lane facing north (with 528 crossing over as seen in your rear view mirror, required right onto McCoy (becomes Frontage), about a mile later is 436 (Semoran) and airport entrance.

There is a price for convenience and no one is forced to pay it.
