Now that the heat of summer is here - or at least in Orlando - I thought everyone could share their remedies for sunburn relief.

Inspired from another thread: Banana Boat Sooth-A-Caine has a topical anesthetic and works really well to soothe the skin.

Noxema works great to cool the burn. Also take some Tylenol to help the burn.

I get some of that Aloe stuff. Putting it in the fridge cools it and helps right away to dull the pain. The only bad thing about it i find is that it can get a little nasty and gummy on your skin and clothes. I would put it on before taking a shower and waiting for a bit.

Put on heavy duty, waterproof sunscreen a few times a day so you don't need a remedy :)

First PREVENT IT - sunscreen - reapply as needed and hat.

But is you do get one
take ibuprofen or aspirin - they are antinflamatories and help a lot to bring down the redness and heat of a sunburn

also solarcaine aloe - green gel soothes on contact

and drink lots of water - burns=loss of hydration - replace it

well thats what we do IF we get a sunburn

We ALWAYS use the "blue stuff". Sorry I can't remeber what it is called but it comes in many different brands. What makes this good is that it has ALoe and Litacain(sp?). So, not only does it soothe, it also heals.

You should also take Vitamen E. It accelerates the healing of your skin. Sometimes when I get too much sun, I will take a vitamen E and apply the blue stuff. By the time I wake up the next mornig my sunburn is mostly gone.

There are a lot of people that are "allergic" to the sun.....
Sometimes instead of burning...they will get a rash.

Be careful of the medications that you are taking too.
A lot of meds when taken and with exposure to the sun.....you can either burn more quickly or get a rash!!

That is why we ALWAYS bring at least 2 bottles of Benydryl :D

I second Noxema!!! It's cheap and tends to pull the heat right out!

Don't laugh, but a really good sunburn medication is Preperation-H. I learned about this while stationed in Panama. Any of that type of cream will work. It sounds strange, but really does work.
