DD(10) burns super easy and we've tried a lot of different sunscreens to keep her face from becoming a crispy little face. Do you guys have any good suggestions? Thanks!!!
When I was at Target, I noticed that Aveeno makes sunscreen that is SPF 70 and higher. I would choose the highest and remember to reapply often. Maybe even wear a hat for extra protection if she burns really easy.
SPF is important, but you need something with Avobenzone (aka Parsol 1789), the more the better. Use a waterproof lotion and reapply reapply reapply.............We are good old fashioned Coppertone folks.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 100+ with Helioplex.
The best sunblock i have ever used, it's light weight and waterproof, my skin feels soft and soomth, as though i'm not wearing any!!!
My DS2 burns easily as well. The only thing that works on him is Blue Lizard. It's thick, but it works great and after 2 weeks in Disney all he has is a very slight tan.
I spoke to the pharmacy and the folks there recomended bull frog as the best one in their opinion. I tried it on my husband (who seems to have a neck made of crisco ,it burns so bad) and it worked like nothing I have ever tried before. It realy did the trick and lasted a LONG time with him outside mowing the grass. im sure any of them will work as long as you reapply enough.
My DS is 7 and was born with a metabolic disorder called PKU and burns VERY quickly. We were advised by his doctors to use BULLFROG and even though it is only 36spf it is great. I like the sprays. I have also recently tried the coppertone 70 spf and he burnt due to it not going on nicely.
Good luck with your search.
We are a bullfrog family. DH is from Ireland and the kids have his quick-to-burn complexion--bullfrog has never failed us. I do carry a small banana boat stick in my purse to reapply to their faces when we're out all day and I'm not lugging a large bottle of bullfrog around and we've had great luck with it and it doesn't melt when they sweat and run into their eyes.
We use Blue Lizard also. It was recommended to us after my son got 2nd degree sunburn on his shoulders and back a couple years ago. He hasn't burned since.
Just do not get a false sense of security in using a higher spf. You still need to reapply as often as you would if you were using a lower spf. There is only a 1% difference in coverage between 30, 50 and 100 spf. I looked it up the other day, and spf 30 provides 97% coverage, spf 50 provides 98% and spf 100 blocks 99%.
Update - We weren't able to find the blue lizzard, but did find the Neutregena Face 85 SPF and it worked great. DD sometimes fills in on her twin brother's baseball team and had to play a double header in 90+ degree weather this past weekend. And great news, NO SUNBURN. Her little face had a slight pink tinge, but that's it.
Thanks everyone!!! We'll definitely make sure it is in our suitcase in August.
