Since we have never been to WDW in Nov or Dec,and hope to this year,is sunblock still needed?I know that we always have used it all the other months that we have been there, but just wondering about Nov and Dec?Thanks.

The sun isn't as intense at the time you're talking about. Unless you're REALLY fair or prone to burns, you probably won't need the heavy duty stuff.

Just my opinion here but... Not needed for "oh, my gosh, I'm going to get burned!"... BUT lower SPF ought to be used for "gee, I really don't want to get skin cancer later in life". :furious:

It is my understanding that the purpose of sun screen is to block the UVA/ UVB rays of the sun. So sunscreen is needed every day of the year no matter where you are because the sun is always giving off these harmful rays.

However, I know some people do not burn easily so do not use sunscreen if the sun is not real intense. If you are one of these people then I would go with the previous posters advice.

I would highly suggest wearing it if you are planning on being outdoors a lot at the most intense parts of the day (waiting for afternoon parades, WS, the water parks) but if you are ride hopping and not prone to burning, I wouldn't bother, personally.

I'm extremely fair skinned. Nobody but albinos are more pale than I. :) But I've never burned in December, even if I swim. I still put a dab on my nose, but it is doubtful that I need it.

I normally bring it for my winter trips, because even though it's cooler, the sun is still more intense than it is back here in NJ. I usually end up getting some color in Nov and Dec, even with the sunscreen, so there must be something to it.

I didn't even need it last year at the end of October which I was surprised at- and I am very fair skinned!

I am very fair-skinned and wear moisturizer with sunscreen, but I don't think you should have to worry about getting burned.

I would not recommend visiting WDW at ANY TIME OF THE YEAR without using sunscreen. Just makes common horse sense to me.

Enjoy.

If you don't want skin cancer, you should wear sunscreen every day no matter where you are. You may not need to wear one with a SPF of 45, but you should have something on.

I'm very fair skinned (think red hair and freckles...). When we went in December, I used SPF15 and it was plenty. If I were to use SPF15 in the summer, I'd be a crispy critter in a matter of minutes (I'm an SPF50+ girl normally). However, our first day there, we had forgotten to pack the sunscreen in the carryon (and Magic Express still had our luggage), so I ended up touring the parks from about 1-5pm without anything and I was fine (no burns - possibly skin cancer, but time will tell on that one). Good luck!! :sunny:

YES. Bring sunscreen. We go over TG week, and it has generally been about 75-80 then.. And you CAN definately get a burn. Trust me.

And, agreeing with the others.. PLEASE.. people, wear sunscreen EVERYDAY. Make it a habit..
Ask me how i know. My dad just finished having another skin cancer lump removed (just superficial - Thank God!) but, this is his 3rd or 4th bout with it. (Fair skin, use to be a fisherman and got burned alot!)
The sun is NOT your friend!! It's just too bad most of us don't know or understand that the damage is already done, and just waiting to "pop up" later in life. It's too bad.

Going in December, so I'm curious about this, too, especially since I get freckles. Glad to know sun isn't that bad that time of the year. And yes, I use an SPF moisturizer daily.

I use a 15 up here in the winter, a 30 in spring and summer, and a 45 in the summer. I have had two melanomas removed (with a very atypical mole just removed two weeks ago -they are treating it as a melanoma) and I'm only 42 yrs old.

Wear a 15, at the least, and don't forget to put some on your ankles and feet, and ears, and the back of your neck, and the top of your head...

Neutrogena makes a nice lightweight SPF 30.

As another very fair-skinned person, I would recommend taking a sunscreen/block with you. We went to WDW in Dec. a few years ago and it was cold--think long-sleeves and jackets, even mittens. I still put sunscreen on my face and ears. This was my only visible skin!

If you are taking children on your trip, please put sunblock on them. Their skin is more fragile than an adult's. Also, if you get on your trip and do need sunscreen, it will be much more expensive at the parks and the resorts.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I went in Nov. and got burnt really bad. So always put it on and protect your skin and don't ruin your vacation.

In the summer my DH and I always wear sunscreen (the kind with Mexoryl) everywhere...... not just WDW.

When in WDW for Nov/Dec I wear makeup that has spf 25. I can wear foundation in the cooler months because the temp is cooler and it does not melt off my face. My DH during this time of year uses a face moisturizer with spf 30. The sun is not as strong this time of year, but you still need to use sunscreen.

Also VERY IMPORTANT....in the cooler months use a hand cream that has spf 15 in it. Most people forget the backs of their hands. Actually your hands get more sun exposure, especially when driving (even in winter) the windshield magnifies the sun and damages the skin on your hands, which leads to those ugly brown spots and collagen breakdown, which in turn makes you look old. Neutrogena makes a great and inexpensive hand cream with spf 15.

Please DO wear sunscreen even if it isn't hot outside.

Sunscreen is my new soapbox. Dh was diagnosed with melanoma this week. We hope it was caught early enough that surgery alone will fix it. We'll get more info. after he sees the surgeon next week.

Please wear sunscreen year round if you are spending time outside. The UV rays can still be strong even if it isn't hot. Your sunscreen should have at least a 30 SPF protection. Our dermatologist recommends a 55 SPF for your face.

And.....if you have never had a full body screening by a dermatologist, please schedule one. The sooner melanoma is caught, the better your chances are of fighting it.

For WDW, remember to wear sunscreen both when you are in the parks and when you are swimming at your resort. If you go swimming during your afternoon break, reapply the sunscreen before you head back to the park.

You can still get sunburnt if its cold, its not the heat that burns you but the UV rays... :sunny:

I burnt in Nov. We never had more than 5-6 hours in the park on any day, but I was on medication that increases sensitivity. I forgot to apply sunscreen on my last day and REALLY regretted it for the next week.
