Summit Plummet

I go on several times every trip. I'm the only one in my family that does it.

Just remember that the scariest part of this ride is actually waiting to go down. It is HIGH. I get butterflies in my stomach every single time. When I first sit down on top of the slide, I could practically feel my heart beating out of my chest. I usually go right back on and then I'm not as scared, but it is just as fun.

It goes by so quick, you don't have time to really freak out. It always gives me a wedgie and sometimes a little bit of a sore butt, but nothing where it would keep me from going on. And believe it or not, I'm afraid of heights.

It is a safe thrill and worth the wait.

OMG... this sounds horrifying! We are doing the two water parks for the first time during our 2008 trip to WDW. I know there is no chance of me attempting this but at this point I am doubting if my fearless hubby and teen will even do it!

Have gone a few times...went with DS(14) while other DS(11) waited at the bottom, he wanted no part of it. It is very high, I remember looking out and thinking we must be there, but kept on climbing higher !!:headache:
Once at the top, the view is spectacular.....once its your time to go, you just need to do it.....it is kind of weird that you cant see over the edge, it just drops off:scared1: The ride down was surprisingly smooth, I dont think you really touch the slide !!, but once you land there is a very hard rush of water to your legs and butt......it is one of the best thrills anywhere in the park:thumbsup2 I do think the worst part is waiting in line and listening to all the other riders prepare for their "death" ride:lmao:

DS (11) who didnt want to go is still convinced he got the best part of the ride, while waiting at the bottom he watched all the girls come off with bathing suits in many forms of disarray:rolleyes1......the joys of pre-teen testosterone rush !!

I have to agree with the view. When Your at the top you can see the castle way off in the distance. It looks very small from there, but you can see it. It is a great view.

I am so sad to admit this.... but I chickened out! :sad2: We were there for AM EMH and I walked up to the top. The CM sitting there was reading a magazine - I was hoping he'd at least smile at my nervousness or say something encouraging or reassuring, but no such luck. I backed out. The thing I couldn't wrap my mind around was how I would NOT fly out of the slide area and just plummet onto the cement. I'm plus-sized, so I also worried about how my weight would impact the fall (no pun intended). I'm so sad that I didn't do it, but I was so afraid I'd die! And it was SOoooooooooooooooooooooooo high!

Any others who are bigger people who have done it? Any tips on how that whole experience of falling without falling out of the slide's path goes?

I am 5'6" and weigh 215 currently. I had a traumatic experience at TL over the summer on the Crush n' Gusher ride, and it was actually what prompted me to lose weight. (I've lost over 50 lbs so far! :woohoo: )

Now I have worked up enough confidence to go to BB this Sunday and I already promised my friend that I would go on the Summit Plummet at least once with her. I LOVE thrill rides, but I am scared of something terrible happening here too. My plan is to toss a t-shirt over my tankini and just DO it.

I'll let you know how it goes and if this (still) overweight gal survives it.... haha.

DW won't try it, and forbids DS (8) and DD(10) from trying. I did it 2 years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The height is a tad unnerving, but the view is spectacular. The first few feet feel like a free fall, you don't feel the slide or water, then your back hits the slide, and it is just a high speed water slide (I hit 56 MPH). The landing strip at the bottom was the only discomfort for me, as it felt like I was running the gauntlet in an old initiation scene. I never experienced the rapid enema, but I was so worried about injuring something else, I had my legs clamped together tighter than vice grips. It was when I dropped onto the bed at our resort, that I noticed my 'injury', 3-4 small bruises on the bottom of my posterior.
All in all, it is well worth it, and I will do it again in October. Oh yeah, I am 230lbs, and never felt at risk. You will be fine.

My wife lost her top.

It is very scary scooting your butt up to the edge of the slide. It seems like you are just scooting off a table....

LMAO. I'm sorry, but the banana dancing makes your comment hilarious.

Does the slide end in like a small pool or does it just flatten out and you stand up. DFI can't swim, although we hope that he will be able to do it before the honeymoon, but he's 6'5". So if it's a pool and he can stand up we're good to go. Well I'll get on that bad boy regardless. I don't know if I was on one that high, but I loved the rush.

ohh its so much fun!!
its terrifying but the feeling of pushing past your nerves and just doing it without thinking is exhilerating!!!!
and if you lose a piece of swimsuit, laugh it off!
just another disney memory!

its kinda like Humongakowabunga! <---how ever u spell that but its open space. all i remember was the guy telling me to fold my hands on my chest and pulling the Wedgie out of my butt it happened so fast. its a rush u get and its soooo much fun!

It levels out, with a long 'landing strip' approximately 6-8 inches deep.

we went back in sept. and i watched my dh, dd(7) and my fil(63) go down it and it terrified them!! my fil said he would never go on it again and i watched a lot of people go down it and a lot of them where saying it hurt their backs. i rode everything else that day but sp!

Working at Blizzard Beach I have tons of stories about SP, but my favorite is when the Tampa Bay Bucs were in the park as VIPS. There was a group of them were waiting in line and they had these 2 little kids waiting in front of them in line that had been riding all day. The kids could not have been any more than 7 or 8 yrs old. They both had no hesitation in getting up on the slide and taking off when it was ready. The next person in line was a huge football player that looked about 250 lbs. It took him about 10 mins to just get in the slide and then he chickened out and took the long way down (the stairs with his teammates heckiling him). :rotfl2:

When you finally get up there--after climbing and climbing--and getting more and more scared, you really have NO choice but to take the fast way down. Peer pressure doesn't help either! Let me just say, the scariest thing is that when you lay down you can't even see what you are actually laying on. It is just soooo steep

OK! That did it for me! I am scared of heights, and I can't imagine not being able to see what you are laying on. We had thought about trying it when we were there in September, but never did. I thought I was brave for doing Slush Gusher (the smaller one right beside Summit Plummet).

I wish I could have seen that.

I had sworn I would never go down SP, but this past trip my sister and dad somehow convinced me. Actually my dad went before me to prove that an overweight 62 y.o. man could do it, and my sister went after me to ensure I didn't chicken out at the top. Of course it probably helped that my glasses were at the bottom with my mom and MIL so I couldn't see. The anticipation was honestly worse than the drop.

I'm game for most anything, especially on a dare, but just watching the short video clip of this on the WDW website has put me off for life. It's so steep it looks like you'd just fall forward and somersault through the air instead of 'sticking' to the slide.

Besides which, I strongly believe one should never fall faster than 50mph sans parachute.

I thought the ski lift ride was more scary than the slide. It is an awesome ride.

I was afraid to do this for so long. I was coerced into it in the spring of this year, and have done the plummet a further 3 times. It's not my favourite thing, but it is not nearly as scary as it was built up to be. Honestly, I didn't find it scary; at no point did I actually feel like I was free-falling whatsoever. I did find however that after 2 drops my back was too sore from the rush of water on the flume (mainly from the actually drop as opposed to the deceleration at the bottom). I would do it again absolutely without a doubt, and I am someone who is ordinarily afraid of heights. Really, I think it's a bit like the way Tower of Terror is built up psychologically to scare people out their wits, when in fact it is not nearly as bad as people say.
