Summertime touring strategy

its been many years since I went to DW in the summer. Last time I did, because there were teens with us we slept late, went out for a TS breakfast, and then headed to the parks late morning or early afternoon. On most days, there was heavy rain either as we were traveling to the park, or just after we arrived. Since most people were tired from a busy morning, The rain cleared out the crowds pretty good, so we had the park to ourselves for an hour or two.

Does anyone plan to tour this way?

"Planning" on afternoon rain to clear out the parks is not a good strategy. But if it does rain, the crowds do lessen.
With the scheduling of FP for the afternoon, you can certainly still plan to start later in the day. Wait times will increase rapidly in the first 2 hours after park opening, then hold steady until about 1 hour before closing. You'll get less done by missing rope drop, but if that's what you prefer, then you should tour that way.

If you are up early anyways, I would head to the park. You will get more done in the first two hours of the day then any other 2 hour period. Period.
