So, we are able to take a 16 night trip this summer from mid-June to early July. It is our first long DVC trip (our first was a 3 night quick trip to Poly a couple of weekends ago).

Through some luck we were able to book Poly for the entire 16 nights, but are trying to decide if it is what we want to do. SSR is our home resort, though we've never stayed there and only took a quick room tour in March during the Poly trip. SSR reminds us of FOPQ and FOR to a degree and those are our favorite non-DVC resorts (regardless of category).

Assuming you had the points would you spend 383 on Poly or 244/276 for SSR (standard/preferred)? The points saved would be banked with the possibility of upgrading at Christmas to a 1 BR in either the Boardwalk or MK areas (depending on availability).

We have a desire to not do a split stay.

If you don't want to do a split stay (that's what we do) I would spend the points on Poly. We value location and transportation options. How did you like poly on your last stay? I'm assuming pretty well...

I'd take the opportunity to not stay at your home resort - especially SSR (though I've never been there, I'm sure it's nice).

We loved Poly. Very relaxing and we valued the lack of people (with the resort side being closed).

We don't like split stays, but that's because we usually only stay for 7 nights at a time. For 16 nights, I'd gladly split 8+8 between two different resorts!

I should mention there are just two of us. Studios are not an issue size wise.

With split stay out. Poly in my opinion is the one!! 16 nights though is a long time at one place. How many dole whips can one consume?!? (Don’t answer that haha).

So, a split between SSR and Poly is out. If somehow we could get at least 4 or 5 nights in the boardwalk area we would do a split w/Poly. We don't want our first SSR experience to be compared to a walkable resort, hence no split between SSR and Poly.

So, have you looked at BWV/BCV availability for your dates? You could waitlist - if you book your Poly stay as one reservation for the dates you want in BW area and a separate reservation for the dates you want at Poly, you can set up the waitlist to replace those specific Poly nights with the BW area nights (you can set up 2 waitlists, so you could WL both BWV and BCV) and keep the other Poly nights. If your Poly reservation is just one reservation for all 16 nights, you'd need to stalk the RAT and book the BW area that came available and then modify the Poly reservation to match. I have no idea what availability looks like this summer - normally it's not too difficult to book DVC in June-July, but due to COVID everything is different this year.

Poly sounds great! It probably won’t be easy to ever find a 15 day stretch there at under 7 months again.
I’d only switch out to SSR if I was more excited at being in a certain resort for Christmas trip and 1BR was the likeliest way to find that availability.

Right now availability for studios is very limited. But, that is a good idea about trying to split it (although we could always lose it if we attempt a split). Thank you.

I am going to say the opposite. Stay in SSR this time. Poly is under construction and only the DVC rooms are open now. I think it's supposed to fully open sometime in July.

Can’t say we’ve ever stayed that long anywhere on vacation. If we did onsite, Poly would surely be up there on the list, well, if the monorail stop was ready. Nothing more than support beams I could see when we zoomed past toward the TTC the beginning of the month

We were always happy to be able to find room at SSR for last minute trips. However, I don’t get either of the FQ vibes when staying there. Home is where your heart is, enjoy!

Yes, it is. Do you have enough points to WL a split stay elsewhere while holding onto original reservation...then modifying it after the fact?

If this trip will involve a lot of time at the parks, I’d stay with Poly since the split stay is out, I am not a fan of buses and from SSR it take long to get everywhere..though last time we just used Uber after first day.

On the flip side, SSR is very relaxing..pools at each section so a lot less people when you hang out at the ones less popular. Night time to Disney Springs is really nice for just 2 adults. And, the rooms are at SSR are newly renovated and all should be done by the time you go.

But, I love split stays and for 16 days, I’d for sure do that. After 3 nights in one resort I am ready for a new one. Heck, I am doing a split stay in 8 days with 2 at VGF and 1 at RIV!

Unfortunately not. Good idea though.

I would only switch to SSR if the point difference allowed you to book a 1 bedroom. Not for space so much as having the kitchen and access to the washer and dryer 24/7 during a trip of that length. If laundry and kitchen are of no concern to you then I would absolutely stay with Poly.

do you realize how much you will be spending on food? JUst sayin" I'm trying to think of best place in a studio for 16 nights... I would think about a one bedroom like old key west maybe?

We've budgeted the food, and ya, it's pretty high up there. We can't do a 1 BR for the entire stay. Currently we could do about half at SSR in a studio and half in a 1BR at either OKW or BWV (based on current availability).
