Summer time attendance spike?

There's still a huge amount of people who refuse to get the vaccine. Those folk, I'm guessing, would make up the majority of flu related deaths.
It is actually about the strength of their immune system, age and underlying health issues, more than whether or not they were vaccinated. When the flu vaccine isn't matched to the actual circulating flu (very common), it doesn't offer them significant protection.

One thing about the flu vaccine though, is that even if you still do catch the flu, the vaccine reduces the severity of the symptoms so that you are significantly less likely to require hospitalization.

The viruses in the flu vaccine are killed. You cannot get the flu from a vaccine made with killed viruses. People who think they got the flu from the shot were exposed to the flu right before getting the shot, so the coincidence of the timing makes them think it was the shot that caused it.
No offense, but you’re guessing about those other things too. My son has had the flu both with and without having the vaccine. His symptoms were quite alike.

And my dad died after getting his vaccine. Had it 8 straight years, never had the flu, and then died. So yeah, please don’t act like it’s a certainty that everyone who gets it was exposed previously. He got sick the very next day. If you’d add “most,” “usually,” or “scientists think,” I could agree with anything you said. But science is just conclusions drawn from data, and there are cases outside of the norm. But based on numbers of samples, that can still mean quite a lot of individuals. I’m a scientist too; they know this stuff isn’t 100%, so we shouldn’t think it is.

Flu vaccines are less efficacious because there are multiple strains of flu every year and the vaccine does not cover them all.

A Covid-19 vaccine would be specifically designed for this virus and would be far more effective. However, there is no reason to believe a vaccine will be available in 2020.
There’s also no specific reason to think there won’t be another strain. These things mutate.

But I agree, I don’t see there being a vaccine this year unless (heaven forbid) the numbers explode enough that the FDA relaxes some rules. I’m not sure I want my kids getting the first batch, either. But as other posters said, I also don’t see society stopping until everyone is vaccinated. Once the new cases flatten out, we’ll resume more normal routines. Hopefully (for many of us, anyway) with better cleanliness habits!

It is impossible to get the flu from a killed virus vaccine. It takes two weeks after receiving the vaccine for a person to build immunity. During that window a person still remains vulnerable.

I'm very sorry your father died from the flu. If he received an attenuated or modified live vaccine, such as Flumist, it is possible he could have contracted it. But I have to repeat that a killed virus vaccine cannot cause the flu.

As a scientist, you know that correlation does not imply causation.

Was your son hospitalized? Because that is the point. The vaccine reduces the severity of symptoms if you contract other strains.

There is so much dangerous misinformation about vaccines and the flu vaccine. I'm afraid these same superstitious fears will also surround a Covid19 vaccine, and many people will refuse to get it.

Even if the strain isn't matched, it will still reduce the severity of symptoms.

Plenty of families from all over the world with financial hardship over this. I don’t foresee a summer spike. More then likely people cancelling and not rescheduling until they can recoup their losses.
Yes I think this what will happen. With everyone off work they will not be spending money on a vacation.
