Summer time attendance spike?

So we all have come to realise in the summer the WDW crowds are lighter. I have this presumption that attendance this year 2020 will be heavier in the summer due to the closing. Thats a lot of vacations and planning that had to be adjusted.

Also to mention now all the free time families will be able to get earlier for instance May and June because kids may still be out of school or be eligible for a no attendance policy. Interested to see the crowds this summer.

My husband and I were just talking about this. We have a short trip planned for 6/10-6/14. We usually love that time of year because crowds are manageable, but am concerned that all those rescheduling is going to amp up crowds. We are considering a switch to a beach vacation instead.

I'm thinking "attendance spike" will be the new norm for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't even be surprised if there were record September crowds this year - not to mention October which was already high but promises to make the crowds from the last few years look like a 2. All those crowds calendars will need to work overtime this year to get their predictions wrong now.

Stop it right now. No.

I heard between 4/28/21 and 5/7/21 would be particularly bad. Stay away everyone, for your own good. I'm telling you this because I care about you.

:)

I already go at busy times, so I won't even notice an increase :rotfl2: We are going at Thanksgiving this year and next year.

That is my worry... I was taking DD in July bc crowds are manageable and now I'm thinking crowds are going to be the worst I have ever seen... worse than normal christmas crowds even

:(

I don’t think everyone is rescheduling for the summer. I think it’ll be spread out over the next year. That said, I do think once things go back to normal, it will be crowded whenever you go, so I would just pick the time that works best for you!

Plenty of families from all over the world with financial hardship over this. I don’t foresee a summer spike. More then likely people cancelling and not rescheduling until they can recoup their losses.

I agree. The financial impact of this has not been felt yet and until that reality is realized it is hard to say how busy the parks will be. Not saying this will be as bad or even close to 2008, but afterwards, the parks were virtually empty for a couple of years.

It really all depends on how long this lasts and what kind of financial impact it has not just in the US but around the world.

Disney always has surprises. We've had unexpected low attendance during Easter, unexpected high attendance during summer. It is what it is. Can't wait to go either way =)

I think looking ahead to summer as being back to normal is overly optimistic. I’m booked for June and am already coming to terms with the notion that that trip is most likely not happening.

I agree that there won’t be a huge spike. Covid 19 is tearing through the economy. There will be many people who don’t rebook. There will also be people who choose to travel closer to home.

For our family, we are cautiously hoping our December trip may work out. However, that will put us into a new flu season, probably still without a vaccine. I’ll be booking it, since we are dvc and the reservation won’t involve borrowed points. I won’t be booking air though.

My feeling is we don’t make it back to Disney before the latter part of 2021.

Yeah, I see a bunch of people planning to reschedule their trips for when my trip is already planned. Not entirely pleased with that, but I guess we should all just be happy if the parks are open then. Alternatively, these virus issue could hang on and people could continue to be scared off from visiting through the summer. It will be what it will be. At least I managed to snag some cheaper airfare to MCO.

Yeah - I'm sorry for all the folks who had to cancel but now our summer trip is going to be a nightmare.

I completely agree with this. Plus many people can't reschedule or really don't know, at this time, if they can or not. We outright canceled (we were supposed to go there on Tuesday). As of now, our summer is booked with other activities - summer camp and another trip (if we will even go). I think there are many, many guests who were supposed to go within the next few weeks that will not be able to reschedule this year at all.

There's a poll in another thread that currently shows more or less an even split for every month of the year in terms of when people are going to reschedule. I really don't think it will be concentrated on summer.

Not to mention the people who have already booked summer trips who might also need to cancel last minute, even if this all clears up in the next month or so, because of financial reasons.

My husband is a teacher and his school is talking about the possibility of extending this school year or starting next year early if the current situation causes an extended closure this spring. I'm sure others are too. Just another variable to throw into the mix
I purposely booked for about a week after we get out of school for just this reason! Our last teacher day is May 26th as if stands. If I knew we'd actually be done that day, I would have scheduled to leave on the 27th, but I gave myself a buffer just in case. We have enough snow days left to cover a week and a half if they end up extending Spring Break. Right now, they're saying we're proceeding as normal, but as of Wednesday I was still convinced that I was leaving for Disney today!
