As we had no intentions of going to the parks this evening, there was little point in going all the way over to a park to eat. Now of course, I had a dinner reservation, I mean its me were talking about and I normally dont play anything by ear, but after the sea raycers, I was quite comfortable with the idea of picking something up at Gasparillas. Neither of us were particularly hungry and there was always the Concierge treats to keep us going if we did get peckish later on.
Gasparillas it was then. I am pretty sure that Steven had been waiting on a dinner like this, chicken, fries, and coke and he was a happy man. I on the other hand knew I would miss the 3 courses, but hey, we still had plenty of them coming up!
So we headed downstairs not knowing what might be on offer. Steven settled for the Chicken Strips served with fries and I took the Hot Dog with fries. We didnt have to wait long for or food and we both chose our desserts, Steven had a NY cheesecake and I had the chocolate cake. Both slices were absolutely huge, I had no intentions of finishing either but we had a fridge and I intended to save what we didnt eat. We took Diet Cokes as our drink and handed over our room keys to access our CS credits.
I didnt want to stay and eat it there as we had a beautiful balcony, with a wonderful view. So we took our food upstairs, grabbed some ice and settled on the balcony to enjoy our food. I wasnt too fond of the hot dog, it was quite tasteless actually. I love hot dogs normally but I thought this one had so much bun and sauce on it that I didnt actually taste the dog. Steven loved his chicken strips but that was no surprise. I wished I had taken them myself, they were very dry and crispy.
The chocolate cake was too chocolaty for my liking, the reason being is that it had very little cake, it was more filling than actual cake. I hadnt noticed this when I picked it up but over half of the slice was buttercream, way too sweet for me, so I ended up leaving it all bar a few bites. The cheesecake was nice and dense, not fluffy like some. I LOVE NY cheesecakes and hate fluffy ones so this one satisfied us both.
I however was disappointed that my dessert hadnt worked out as planned that I was determined to go and get some mini treats from the Concierge station. Steven wasnt up for going up to get anything, especially as neither of us were hungry. But I insisted that this wasnt the point, we could always save them for later! I knew I would be peckish later on and I wanted to enjoy some miniature desserts while watching Wishes, I thought it came hand in hand.
Eventually I managed to persuade him, of course I did, and we headed up to get our miniatures. We ended up with mini éclairs, some brownies and little cheesecakes. We grabbed a couple of Diet Cokes and I was happy!
I was still yet to see Wishes from the ground in the Magic Kingdom, but the idea of seeing it from the balcony on a nightly basis was thrilling. I still intended to look into getting my Pirate and Princess Party tickets swapped as we didnt make it the first time. I knew we had a slim chance in getting them changed to another day but it was worth a shot, after all we hadnt even picked them up yet. The main reason I wanted to go to it was for the firework show alone, I heard it was among the best Disney offered.
In the cool breeze on the balcony, it was perfection. The sun was beginning to fade and I could only just make out the faint glow of the castle.
Unfortunately I didn't get any more photos, I was too engrossed in the action and I thought as we were quite a distance away they wouldn't turn out.
We still had a while to go before Wishes started but already people started to take their seats from Gasparillas and move them forward for a better view. It looked like a clear night and I was sure we were in for a good show. Although we had some pictures taken by Randy during Wishes from the Grand Floridian Pier, we still hadn't actually watched a show. I knew that Wishes would be a favourite of mine as I just love the idea behind it all. It seemed like such a beautiful show and the message was perfect. At times our whole wedding/honeymoon seemed as if it had been just that
a wish, something I had always dreamed about but would maybe never see the light of day. Sitting on the balcony, with my new husband, made me see that wishes do indeed come true and that you can never stop dreaming no matter how far fetched they sometimes are.
It really was a beautiful night and I had enjoyed not going to the parks, it had been nice to relax at the resort and just have some time to unwind. I knew I would be aching to go to the park tomorrow but for now, I was content.
Twenty minutes on and neither of us had moved from the balcony, I got up only to get my mini desserts and some coke. We had decided to leave the champagne for another night, after all I am always a Coca Cola girl at heart.
I could hear the music through the speakers on the pier, signalling that Wishes was about to start. I grabbed my chair and we both quietly sat and waited.
The show began and I was surprised at how loud it was, the sky was alive with color and everyone began cheering. My favourite fireworks had to be the ones that seemed to produce little, but after a while, danced in the sky. They were beautiful and they seemed to be the biggest crowd pleaser. Tinker bell made her way across the sky and from a distance it looked like a real fairy, I still have my doubts
The finale was of course nothing short of spectacular and the audience was wowed for another night.
I had forgotten about the desserts as I was immersed in the show, no time like the present though and I dug in. A perfect end to a perfect day, chocolate, fireworks and another couple of wishes granted
Coming up
