Summer ROCKS and so do the Super Goofs!

Morning Goofs!!

Kim - no zero incline ability? That is odd and not sure something I'd want either. Sorry to hear about co-workers.

Maura - Yay on the working nose clips and hopefully that'll take care of the problem. Clippie nose :rotfl: As for the tri, yeah wasn't sure going in if it would be a one time only thing but I felt really good when I finished. May sound odd but despite the set backs it was like "Yes, look what I accomplished!".

Cecelia & Shan - we haven't warmed up that much yet. Supposed to next week and I'm an evening runner so we'll see how that goes.

Lisa - hopefully the "instruction" part will be over quickly and things can get to a regular schedule. Elite standings :rotfl2:

Scary part is friend of mine says she sees me doing an Ironman in 2 years. :eek:Told her she's nuts then started thinking....maybe a half ironman...I am so not right....

Was going to hit gym last night but it was clear and dry unlike Mon/Tue or today and Friday so took advantage of it and weeded the veggies and beds. Was going to mow but still too wet. Got couple other outside things cleaned up, too.

Have a great day!!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!

Working from home today. We finally worked out a schedule that will keep me home for 2 short 4 hour days a week and then 4 in house 8 hour days. It is better than the entire week in the office and hopefully as the bugs work out of the system it will be more at home and less in house through the summer months. Although it is cooler in the office with the AC on...:rolleyes1 and quieter without my kids fighting...:rolleyes1

Hoping for a walk with Leslie Sansone later today and then prep for the Relay for Life here tomorrow to be done. Back early a.m. on Sunday!!

Everyone have a great weekend!!!!! :goodvibes

12 miles in the hills today. ugh. It was not pretty.

I have a confession to make. I swear when I climb hills. I have tried not to swear but the swearing just seems to help or a least it makes me feel better.
Dh was laughing at me today cause I try to make my swears G rated but on some of the hills "gosh" just doesn't cut it. The bigger the hill, the badder the swear so instead of "gosh" it becomes "jeepers creepers" or "golly gee willickers" And for some reason it has to be out loud.
I have tried keeping it inside but it isn't as effective. I usually whisper though. So you can just picture me climbing up this monster of a hill whispering with every huff "I hate this stupid hill, I really hate this bleep hill, this hurts, this really bleepbleep." I am not exactly the good christian role model on the hills.

then coming home and unpacking, putting them in the shower, starting dinner - Oh, my! Course, they're sitting down to dinner while I'm usually still in my bathing suit. :confused3

It is work entertaining these kids in this heat! :cool2:

I cheat on dinner. I fix cold dinners in the morning and stick them in the fridge. Then come dinner time, I only have to pull it out of the fridge. Worst case scenario, I have to stick something on the grill. Typically dinner at our house in summer is a pasta salad, potato salad, chicken or tuna salad served with a plate of cold sliced tomatoes and cucumbers or chilled asparagus or broccoli. About the only thing cooked in my oven in the summer is a batch of cookies.

Morning Goofs and Happy Father's Day!!! :goodvibes

Took off a week since my shin was bothering me. Starting to become really worried about the Peachtree in two weeks. Decided to try to run a 10K this morning and I was able to pull it off, although with my slowest 10K pace ever. Went out really early trying to beat the heat.

I'm a little bummed I'm running so slow, but do feel relived I was able to run the whole 10K distance. I'm not so worried about the Peachtree now.

Came home and iced a good bit and will take off tomorrow.

After the Peachtree is over and my shin feels better I'm gonna concentrate on speed work as opposed to worrying about any distances. I've got to get my pace down again. I'm kinda obsessing about it. :scared:

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today. Oh, and stay cool! :cool2:

I'm gonna concentrate on speed work as opposed to worrying about any distances.
LOL. Shan, I recently decided to concentrate on endurance and not worry about speed. Between the two of us, we've got all our bases covered!

I did 7 miles on the treadmill last night since the heat is too oppressive for my taste. It wasn't too boring; the gym TV had closed captioning on, so I was able to "read" Friends and Family Guy while running. I'd felt a little guilty about not running outside until the second I left the gym. It was 9 PM and the heat/humidity still hit me like a ton of bricks. Guess I'll be planning my long runs around the TV schedule for the rest of the summer!

Cecelia, your G-rated "swears" crack me up! And I'm loving your cold dinner idea -- too bad I'm the only one in the house that would enjoy those meals.

Shan - Quit beating yourself up about the pace! In this heat, I wouldnt worry too much about your speed being down. Mine is way slower too. Its just too much with the heat and humidity. Yesterday I ran at 6am - about 2 minutes after the sun came up - and it was 79 when I STARTED! You have some stops and starts since returning to running so I would concentrate on just getting back into a regular routine and not worry too much about speed or distance for the moment.

I think the rule of thumb is 1 minute slower for every 10 degrees over 65 so in over 80 degree weather thats 2 minutes slower per mile. Where did I see that?

Don't lose the joy of running in the pursuit of speed.

Cecilia

Hello Super Goofs!!!

I am still here, it is crazy how hectic things have been for me the last few months, and I feel that it is going to get worse with only two months until my wedding!!! My training has pretty much been non-existant, but that will be changing starting tomorrow!! I am going to get ready this summer to start my 'official' Goofy training in September.

I would like to try to find some 5k races this summer to do to keep my motivation up. I tried to get into the NYC marathon, but unfortunately did not get in. BOO!!

Looks like everyone has been doing great, lots of training and great race results!

Keep up the good work Goofs...I will be checking in more now that I am determined to get back into my training!!!!

Well, that makes me feel a ton better cause it is HOT here! Thank you Cecilia!

The Mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread....

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:

  1. What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
  2. What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

Hey Goofs, Happy belated Father's Day to all the Dis Dads. It's been a crazy few weeks here. My DD just started preschool and it's thrown our routine off quite a bit. I've had to travel a lot for work too. I haven't had much time for Internet but I have still been squeezing my workouts in.

I just ran a 10K (6.1M actually) on Saturday. It was very hilly the first half. I went out way too fast and wore myself out by mile 4. I turned around at one point and noticed my arch-nemesis about 30 seconds behind me. That is honestly the only thing that kept me going without taking more walk breaks. I ended up finishing with an 8:24 pace, shaving 0:40 per mile off my previous PR. Defeating my arch-nemesis (remember, the guy that doesn't even know I exist) for only the second time was easily the highlight of my day but I also finished ahead of three other people I've previously been unable to beat.

I don't have any races next weekend but after that, the next five weekends are filled with six races as well as one or two 1-hour shifts running the track for Relay for Life.

Let's see, I've got some catching up to do...

Rich - Amazing time for your 10K.

Mike - You log more miles than I drive. Maybe you can give me a piggy back ride to work to save on gas.

Angie - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and job search. Congratulations for your son though and great job on your 4-miler through the rain. Take care!

Lisa - I hope you new job is going well.

Liz - Awesome job on your Tri. Great report!

Cecilia - You work hard out there and have earned the right to let out the occasional "Oh, crumbs" or "Shucks" when the going gets tough. Just try not to use that potty mouth in the presence of any bikers or truck drivers as they tend to repeat things they hear. :rotfl:

Have a great week everyone!

-steve

Only did 2 miles today since I am basically starting from scratch. I was able to keep a 9:50 pace which I was happy about. I found a Higdon 15k 10 week program to take me up until official Goofy training so I will follow that this summer, and maybe throw in a few short races, but we will see about that!

Steve--WTG in your 10k race, and awesome job beating those people!!

To everyone else, keep up the good work!

So I rested and got in 10.8 sweaty miles on the bike in 44 minutes or so.

LOL Steve! Don't tell him that you are racing him, he might speed up.
Actually though, I do the same thing at races to force myself to keep up the pace. I will pick someone ahead of me and try to pass them. When I pass them I tell them who I am going to pass next. Sometimes they look at me like I am crazy and some times they laugh but most of the time they cheer me on.

Don't forget that all those race miles count double!

Way to go!

Laurie Hey...good to see you posting again!

Mike Your rest days are tough! Hopefully you had a beer or something cold to cool you off afterwards.

Steve Glad you beat your nemesis. Musta felt good.

Everyone else Hi and hang in there in the heat. We are supposed to hit upper 80's, low 90's and so I will get to experience the feeling of pulling on a wetsuit in 90 degree weather and going for a quick swim!

Maura

Maura

Ok, ick. :scared:That's all that comes to mind honestly. :rotfl:

I wogged 2.9 miles last night. It was day one of my traing for the Philly Distance Run. Today I think I will make it to my TKD for the first time in a LOOOONNNG time.

Hey there Goofs!

No running for me today, but I have a hockey game tonight, so that will give me some cross training. I feel great after yesterdays run, so hopefully that is a good sign!

Maura--Hang in there with that hot weather. At this point, I would take hot sunny weather over all the rain we have had here!!! I am so sick of the rain!!!!

My training partner bailed on me after taking clients out to the White Sox game, and then out to the bars afterwards...totally understandable; and in reality triathlons aren't a team sport...on race day, its up to me.

We've had very hot and humid weather the last week, and my little guy has golf lessons every day this week from 7:00- 8:15 PM...but he never complains, he just works and works and says "Dad, its an outside sport!" Out of the mouths of babes, I swear.

Keep it up Goofs...if we are willing to do what other won't on training days, we will have what they don't have all the other days!

Mike

Thank you Mike! Exactly the words I needed to hear today!

I just ran 10 miles and I was shocked at how good I felt. I can't decide if its because I skipped yesterdays run or because I am getting comfortable with the higher mileage.

As for yesterday, well, things fell apart early. It seems the airline "lost" my daughter and husbands reservations for our flight to Germany. My Mother-in-law was in hysterics and asked me to find out what was going on. Two hours later, we had things ironed out and all was well with the world for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the temperature had climbed to 94.... I kept telling myself to go to the gym and hit the dreadmills but I just couldn't drag myself there.

I know this trip to Europe is only 9 days of my life, but its sucking all my energy and its still a month away!!! Sorry, I know better. My friends keep telling me that I am not allowed to complain about being taken to Europe. (So far the 'free' trip has cost about $2000 and we haven't left yet!)

Have a great day Goofs!

Cecilia - ah yes, don't you love "free" trips. ;) It'll be worth it.

Mike - wise son and wise dad.

Forced myself to get out on the bike after work despite temp of 95. Decided on doing only 10 miles and not worry about pace, just do it. Not used to the heat so didn't want to make myself sick. Tried new electrolyte tabs and work well - nice flavor too.

Going to try for another ride tonight - little longer or little faster (honestly forgot to look at time on cycle comp last night).

have a good one Goofs!!
