This is our first time going during the summer - I can't believe the cost of flights!
We usually fly out of Buffalo and even SW prices are high! We happen to be leaving on Aug 2 which is the long weekend here, but still didn't expect such high fares. We have never paid this much.

AC and WJ currently have a "Summer" promo - which isn't really since it doesn't include the month of August.
Will prices go down? Or am I stuck paying these high prices?
I am waiting to book to see if prices drop, or I get a promo code so fingers crossed.

The airfare game has really changed in the last 2 or 3 years. As far as BUF goes the bulk of the people through there are Canadians. They are on to us now.

Look at Rochester or Detroit for prices.

There is usually an Anniversary sale with SW in June so if you're willing to wait for a little bit you might save BUT you could also end up paying more if your dates/route is not included and the current fares rise between now and then.

I think they would have been better if you had booked when they opened. They tend to climb as flights are purchased and stay high these days. I heard rumours of the anniversary sale being on the 10th (though they are running a Fall sale now), so you may want to jump on and check the prices for Southwest first thing in the morning on June 10th. Good Luck:)

Just booked the other half of our flights last night.. finally!
I had booked the return leg back in February, we are returning over the Labour day weekend & wanted the last flight of the day. That flight is now doubled in price from when I booked!

I found a good rate last night on my late night routine check of airline websites. lol!
$215 each YYZ/MCO all in.

I've met my goal of keeping our per person rate under $475 per person & non stop flights :)
It came in just under $470 per person return, non stop flights.

With the way flights have exploded in cost on both sides of the border since January.. I'm satisfied I did the best I could. And I'm relieved I can now stop obsessively checking several times a day!

Now... on to FP+ selections! ;)

Agreed :thumbsup2 .

We purchased our August 2014 flights in November 2013. Paid just over $400 pp return. Same flights today are $818 pp :scared1: . Flight prices followed the same pattern last August as well....the closer the trip date got, the higher the prices went.

(We fly Jetblue out of Syracuse)

Flights are ridiculously expensive now and I find that the longer you wait the more you pay! We booked our august flights back in March when SW opened their flights and paid $330 PP RT that's PHL/MCO the flights we chose were sold out by the next day!! (Wanna get away prices) we just booked for December and paid $288 PP RT PHL/MCO the same thing the day the flights opened up! The wanna get away prices are sold out already on those flights too! Nowadays it seems the earlier you book the better! Good luck

Do you find that rates fluctuate throughout the same day??

I guess last minute deals no longer exist :(

Lesson learned for next summer!

The fares changed daily at times, also stayed the same for several days in a row at times. Only very rarely did I see rates change hour to hour. have been stalking Skyscanner, Hipmunk, Kayak search engines as well as Air Canada, Westjet, Southwest & Jetblue websites. It has been quite the education in flight booking. lol..

Has anyone flown Sunwing??

Many times :)

Tight seating, great service. Checked bags free, meals, drinks & snacks. Not sure I'd want to do long haul flights with them, but for the 2 hr & 40 mins to Orlando.. it works.

My last flight with them was $19 plus taxes down & $9 plus taxes back (YYZ/MCO) September of 2012 - booked at the end of July - 6:30am flt down.. 10:30am flt back. Deal of the century! :)

Wow what a deal!
Can you pre-select your seats with them?

I finally booked my flight down... $215 all taxes & s/c included. Air Canada non stop... Evening flight. (So we added an extra night at the start of our vacation) Managed to bring in our round trip for just under $470 person. Not as good as in the past, but better then what I've been seeing since March.

Checked AC mobile just now... The same flight down is now $245 each... :(

Well, so much for flying out of Toronto, prices just keep going up.
Booked with Southwest for $1300 for 4 of us

Much better than $2400 thru Westjet

I believe OP mentioned flying to MCO on August 2nd? We're also flying down on Southwest that date and I just noticed that the nonstop fares have been reduced. They've been hovering between about $175-270 per person but are down to $109 today. If you paid more than that it might be worth it to try for a credit for the difference?

Rates continue to climb on Westjet for the end of August YYZ/MCO... but have fallen again for Air Canada!

I thought I had scored with $215 one way down last week.. same flight an hour ago was $184 one way down! ;)

All taxes & charges included...

Darn, wish I saw this earlier :( Thanks though.
