Is summer time a good time to cruise? (July/Aug.) We were thinking of going in Nov. but have decided that we shouldn't be taking the boys out of school again since we are going in a couple of weeks to disney. Is the summer a good time to cruise? I know that it is hurricane season, but i heard they avoid that.

We went in June three years ago and it was absolutely lovely. My SIL took a cruise in November for her honeymoon and the seas were so rough and she was sooo sick that it has taken me 23 years to convince her to cruise again...my description of our trip on the Wonder was enough to conquer her fears! Well, I hope there's no hurricanes on August 1, because that's when we're going on the Wonder! Why don't you join us?

I preferred our August cruises over our Jan. and Feb. cruises. It may be considered huricane season but August was when we had our calmest seas. Temps are hot but that is fine by me. When the ship is moving the breeze keeps you cooled off. The water at Castaway Cay is wonderful warm in the summer months. Kathy

I am curious about summer cruising too.... Are the prices more expensive since school is out? We have cruised in October/November (hurricane season) and February, and the prices were OK. Is cruising in the summer, more costly than Fall and Winter?

(sorry for posting another question.....)

Are the prices more expensive since school is out?
Duh - Yup!!! We are going on one of the special iteneraries this fall (eastern) an the price is between 50% and 60% of our western cruise in mid june 2003.

If you want a corinary, check out the prices for the 10 night christmas cruise this year. Then check the new years cruise, then check easter week and the traditional spring break weeks and compare those prices to the last week in January, all of Feb and Sept through Nov (non holiday weeks) and you will see the difference.

Regarding cruising in July and August. We did an August cruise once and it was so hot and humid we did not go outside for more than 10 minutes at a time unless we were going to the pool. (We were lucky - manditory safety drill was inside for us). Some people love the hot/humid weather. And it rained every afternoon, nope it didn't rain, it downpoured buckets and buckets. And a ship we were docked next too in Nassau was stuck by lightning!

January was perfect for us - got away from the cold rain and snow, the temps were in the low 80's and the humidity was very managable. On our June cruise the weather wasn't too hot yet.

We cruised in August, 2002 and it was so hot and humid that we never used our verandah. There may be a breeze but it's a hot, humid breeze! We did the butterfly farm on St. Maarten and it was almost unbearable. I would never book a summer cruise again.

We cruised this past July in the middle of the month and it was also very hot and humid. There were some places that you could get a breeze on the pool deck but you had to be in one certain spot (which changed) to get the breeze. Because that deck is "enclosed" with plexiglass type stuff, it prevents from the great breeze they would get. I wish they would have put slats or something in those things.

We've cruised twice in August and going for a third this year! Mid to late August and the price hasn't change that much. Had no problems with rough seas or rain either time. Yes it was very hot and often humid but with regard to heat and humidity, it depends on your tolerance levels - I love any kind of heat, be it humid or dry! And deck 10 is wonderful for catching those Caribbean breezes (apologies to the restaurant chain!). Water temperature at beaches was perfect for swimming/snorkeling for me.

Hope this helps and have a fabulous time whatever you decide!

we cruise every year in july and do not find it to be overly hot as there is air conditioning to keep you cool as you need it. then there's the pool and usually we choose excursions that involve water and breezes. even if you tend to get hot there's always a refreshing dip in the pool. i've heard tales of people sailing in the winter months and not being able to enjoy the pools as much because of it being chilly, even on castaway cay. so in general the summer is not so bad. if your going to be hot in the summer i think i'd rather be hot on the disney ships than at home.:sunny:

We have cruised in the middle of the summer, in February and in November. November is known for "Christmas winds" in the Carribean and we had 18" - 22' seas our entire trip (nonDCL by the way), we will never cruise then again. Our summer cruise was as other posters have stated, extremely hot and humid. And yes there is air conditioning, but who is going on a cruise to be indoors all the time? We could not use our verandah either because it was just too hot! If you opened your sliding door for even a minute, all the air conditioning was sucked out of the room and it would take a whole day to cool down again.

We just returned from the 02/07 Eastern Magic and we had perfect weather. It was 80 - 85 on the islands, lower humidity (it said 72 degrees everyday) and the water was warm enough for the kids to go in. The water temperature is definitely the best in the middle of the summer, we spent all day in the water at CC. I didn't even go in this past trip, but the rest of the family had no problems.

I agree with the poster who said it depends on your tolerence level for heat as to which time of year you choose. You will have a great time no matter when you go. :wave2:

We have cruised twice in August. Yes, it is hot and humid. It all depends on your tollerance level. If you can do it, late August is less expensive than the first few weeks.
