summer begins?

Can anybody give me a rough idea of when schools get out for the summer around DL? Also, when do they start up again in the Fall? We have had to alter our plans and are now looking at a trip in either the first week of June or the first week in August.

We have been to WDW twice in the summer so we are used to the crowds but would like to avoid them as much as possible as we won't have as much time this trip as we did in Florida.

Typically, it doesn't really get too busy at Disneyland until the 4th of July. However, this year, I expect that it will be quite busy due to the 50th anniversary. Keep in mind that schools let out here in June, and there will be Grad nights, which means that DL will close early on those days -- they haven't released those dates yet.

I like September - right after Labor Day - kids are back in school, crowds are down, and the weather is still pretty warm.

Haunted Mansion will close, though, in September, to prepare for the October makeover - Nightmare Before Christmas (usually opens first weekend in October), and in November, It's a Small World will close in preparation for the Christmas makeover.

Southern CA schools typically get out of school the 2nd week of June. The first two weeks of June are very busy at DL since many schools take trips to the parks during this time. My birthday is June 13th, so my dad and I usually go to celebrate that & Father's day. Everytime, it's very busy and FULL of school kids! I would suggest avoiding this time if at all possible.
School starts back up the week after labor day.

Schools in NorCal get out the last week of May or first week of June, so that would probably add to the school trip and Grad night crowds also.

I've been in the beginning and end of August and the end of August was GREAT! Low crowds and a great weather!! I'd go with that time period.

Hard to say anymore. It varies wildly.
Both my kids are on "traditional schedules", son in high school gets out May 20, daughter in Junior High doesn't get out until June 10. Both started the same day, August 17. And you never know when the year round school kids will be "off track".

Public schools here have added several weeks off in the year. Those with a lot of Hispanic students take 3 weeks at Christmas since so many families go to Mexico for Christmas and weren't coming back until a week after New Years even when the break was only 2 weeks.

And instead of Presidents day, and Lincoln's birthday in February, they take President's week off.

And then there's what used to be Easter week.....sometimes its the week before Easter, sometimes it's the week after, and one year it was BOTH weeks......and then some schools have moved it to a week that isn't tied to Easter....... My son gets a week and a half, starting the Wednesday before Easter and the week after, my daughter gets the week before only.

I think I know why test scores are down though, the kids are never in school!!!
