Hi all, Yesterday while I was at a party someone offered me their Timeshare for free. She said her kids don't want it and she is having trouble paying her maintenance and resorts dues. I think it comes to around $700 a year. She said she had 48 points and can trade into RCI. She says in a 2 bed-room when she can go. Of cause once I get it I would have to pay the maintenance and fees every year. What do you think? Good Deal or run away? We already own DVC. Thanks :)

Coincidentally, I had seen last week someone offering their Summer Bay TS on ebay for $1, so I looked up the resort on tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...ndo_By_Exploria_Resorts-Clermont_Florida.html

It seems like a nice resort. Not top, but nice. It's at the western end of 192, not the best location in my opinion.
Trading to RCI is not what it was. Their fees are now very high (I own Wyndham and DVC timeshares).
If you want to be locked into staying there every year, then it would be OK. However, I think you can rent a 2 BR at Bonnet Creek from owners for about the same amount, and that way you are not obligated to the yearly MF.
Also, being a DVC member I don't know if you'd be happy being so far from WDW.

I know after posting this I started looking around and thinking we could rent at different places for the cost of the fees, thanks for your input. :)

A better resource for learning about non-DVC timeshares and other exchange systems would be www.tug2.net - The Timeshare Users Group. They offer a wealth of information about resorts and exchange systems.

Our DVC Forums here on the DIS are pretty DVC specific. Please take a look at TUG.
