I'm hoping for some guidance on how and where to go with the following group.

Space 1:
Mom and dad - one bed.
5 year old - one bed (or sleeper, or even floor set-up).

Space 2:
15 year old son - one bed.
Grandma - one bed.

Given this set up please provide suggestions!

Does it make more sense to go with a two room suite or two separate rooms?

We're on a budget, so in either case we'd be looking for total costs of under $200 a night, if at all possible.

Specific location suggestions would also be very welcome!

Everyone has their favorites. We recently stayed at Sheraton Vistana Resort and thought it was great. 2 bedroom has king bed in first room, 2 double beds in second room and sleep sofa in living room.
We got it with our timeshare exchange, but rates for a 2 bedroom are under $200 a night. Check out the discount rates offered on allears.net

http://allears.net/acc/faq_svistana.htm#r2012

There may be less expensive rates out there, but I thought these were pretty good.

Unless you're going for the Christmas holidays, it should be no problem at all finding a 2br condo with full kitchen and living room well within your budget.

Sheraton Vistana, as mentioned, is a good choice. So is Wyndham Bonnet Creek, Mystic Dunes, Summer Bay, and many others.

The Staybridge Suites, LBV fits all of your needs. You can get a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit with a full kitchen for under $200. Plus it includes a free continental breakfast. It is right by Down Town Disney, so you are very close to Disney property. We have stayed there a few times, and always enjoyed it.:)

Thanks for these great suggestions! I'll be checking them out.

If anyone has any others, let me know!

How about a 3 bdrm condo at Windsor Hills? We booked through www.floridasunvacationhomes.com and paid under $100 per night, including tax. It has a fantastic location very close to Animal Kingdom. Beautiful pool area and very easy commute. The units are lovely and the management company is topnotch.

If you'd rather be onsite, you might check out the family suites (or if not, please disregard this info :cutie:) - for example, looking at the WDW website at All Star Music using some August dates included in the Aug-Sept Room Only deal prices out @ $159.20 per night ($183.20 Friday/Saturday):

In a 2 bedroom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, mom and dad get the king-sized master with own bathroom and spa tub.

Grandma and 5-year-old get their own full-sized beds in the the 2nd bedroom since they will likely be the first ones to go to bed.

Teen son gets the couch pull-out full-sized bed in the living room.

I would recommend a 3BR at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek. Everyone gets a room. We stayed in a 3BR last year bringing my FIL with us. It was nice to have the space. Check out myresortnetwork and Redweek for units available thru owners.

:) You could also rent from a DVC member and stay in a 2 bedroom ON PROPERTY. As an owner I do not rent but if I needed to I would check into David's rentals-a sponsor on the Boards and middle man for renting points. He charges a little more than an owner might, but he can make sure you get the reservation you need. He has a website and gets great reviews here. You can also check the DVC Rent and Trade forum and see if there is an owner wanting to rent points. Just another option. Points usually go for $10 a point here and I think around $13 for David but he kinda insures your process is smooth from what I understand. No, I have never used his services. I am only giving you an option you may not have thought of on property.

Is it possible to rent a 2BR DVC property for $200 a night or less?

No...not at all. Rack rate (thru the WDW web site) is at least $600 (I checked Old Key West) and even renting points, Im thinking it will be at least $400 and up a night. Renting points is not my specialty, but I have a chart WDW sent me and I was looking at that. Im sure someone else can fix my figures if Im wrong. We have 6 in our immediate family and it is hard to get deluxe accomadations on property at a good rate. We are heading "off" property to Bonnet Creek this October. We got a 2BR condo for $119 a night. Grandma is going with us too on this trip. It is bordered on 3 sides by WDW property so I consider it "on":goodvibes DH got spoiled to BLT villas when we got an awesome 45% discount a few trips ago...and now he always wants that villa accomadation. I am thinking once we stay at BC that he wont ever go back to WDW property:goodvibes

ITA!! Try Ken Price at Vacation Upgrades. I'm sure it's a lot less than $200/night (including taxes, no parking, etc.)

I would also check Residence Inn and Staybridge Suites seems perfect for looking for.

The AOA has a double, sleeper sofa and a murphy bed in it...2 bathrooms...you would be on property and it should fit your needs!!!

Def. Windsor Hills. We just stayed there and it is a beautiful resort area. I am currently pricing for September and got a price of $432.00 total for a week.

OP--What are the dates of your trip?

Sorry for the late reply - I've been out.

Not 100% sure, but I'm thinking arrival on August 4 and departure on August 11. Could also be August 5 - 12.

These are all great and very helpful!

For this group, I would recommend a 3BR unit: one for the parents, one (with two beds) for the two kids, and one for grandma. You can probably get a 3BR at Bonnet for your target price, but it would probably be even easier to do this in a Townhouse at some place like Windsor Hills.

Edited to add: in early August, the cheapest 2BR you can get from a DVC owner would be about $400/night Sun-Thu, unless you are renting points in distress. But there's no chance you'd get it for $200.
