I have a Cat. 2 suite booked. I called to find out what it would be to add my parents. They quoted a price $500.00 higher than if they book their own room in a Cat. 11. Why??? You would think it would be less. We are using the room anyway. Why wouldn't it be less so they could make money on having another room to sell? Anyone come across this price increase????

someone told me that the cat 1, 2 and 3 are never discounted (always book at the "rack" rate) - don't know if that's true, but if it is the discounted rate for a cat 11 might be cheaper than person #5 and #6 in a fully-inflated-cat 2 rate room.

Could you just pay for the Cat 11 and let it sit unused. Probably not b/c of life vests and such. And then they wouldn't officially be allowed to use the concierge benefits, would they?

Whether you book Cat. 1-3 or 4-12, the first four people in the stateroom will pay the full adult fare. We are a family of five. In the Cat. 2, the price we paid was 4 adult fares plus a reduced fare for our youngest. That reduced fare was based on his age. HTH.

We added my son's friend onto our cat 1 last year-ended up with 6 in the room. I know we did not pay full price for anyone but first 2. When you look at the prices for 3 and 4th person--the high end is what you pay in the suites from my experience.
On 1 cruise my parents stayed in the suite with us instead of their own room and it was worth it. However when they had their own room they were allowed to board with us and the concierge took care of their reservations also because our reservations were linked. When are you cruising? If it is soon perhaps what they charge is more. Are you working with a TA or just DCl?

I stand corrected. Thanks BethA. Just talked to my Mom (she's the one who sprung for the suite :D) The first 2 (dh and me) were full fare. For our three boys the fares were based on their ages. Unfortunately, now they're older so the fares for them are at the high end.

We are not cruising until Feb. I would also like to know, if you do take the Cat. 11 and it sits empty, and they stay in the other bedroom, do they really care? For examplea: If you order room service, can you order 6 dinners? When 4 are only booked in that room?

even if it's just 2 of you in the suite you can order enough food to feed an army - they don't limit how much you can order thru room service - so that should not be a problem.

I would recommend though that you do tip your parent's cat 11 stateroom host/hostess even if they are staying in the suite with you, but that's just my opinion.

Though a hot topic--I concur with tipping for the Cat 11...

One of those situations where the stewards could be counting on so many tips b/c so many staterooms are filled.
