First time cruiser here. Counting down to April 30th! Very excited!

I notice that some people wear suits and some tuxes on formal night. Does anyone have any idea what the percentage is who wears a suit versus a tux? I'm torn between bringing a suit and renting a tux.

I am bringing a jacket and dress slacks for Palo and semi-formal night as well.

Thanks for the help!

You will not see to many people wearing a tux. But don't do what other people do. Do what is right for you.

My husband typically wears a suit, but there are some who choose to wear a tux. I would say its entirely up to the guy. :)

Only been on 1 Disney Dream cruise inaugural voyage in August '11. Didn't see one tux. Must say that if my husband were to wear a tux, the place that he would wear it would not be "dragging" it on a cruise. Wear what you feel comfortable wearing, no one will judge you, after all "you are on vacation, right?". Have FUN:thumbsup2 on your cruise, ours was quite relaxing!:goodvibes

I wear a tux, but on average I've seen only about a half dozen on any given cruise. Probably 50 men in suits, and about twice that in sports coat and tie. Seems the majority favor a dress shirt, with or without a tie, polo shirts, aloha shirts, and more t-shirts than I like. Occasionally, I'll see a military uniform, which is nice.

I've seen far more women in long gowns than men in tuxes.

I wear my tux for both formal and semi-formal nights to justify the space and weight in my luggage. One night I'll wear it with a vest, the other with a cumberbund. DW wears the same dress but with different jewelry. We are not alone in wearing our formal attire both night.

Feel free to dress up as much, or as little, as you'd like.

A few years ago we were on a New Years cruise with some friends. We two men wore white tie and tails, and our wives wore formal gowns. We were way overdressed compared to all the other passengers, but we also got a lot of compliments and more than a few envious looks.

I've seen evening gowns much more than tuxes but tuxes are cool too but in general agree with others that tuxes aren't as common as suits but you won't look odd with a tux since they are common enough. My husband is going to wear a suit which I see as a "win" because last time he didn't bring a jacket.

You don't need to spend money renting a tux unless you really want to. The vast majority of men either wear suits/sportcoats, or just ignore formal night altogether.

I bought a few matching tie and vest sets on Amazon for about $20 each and wear one of those with my black suit on formal night. I usually bring all 4 so I can coordinate with my wife. It's a much cheaper alternative than renting a tux.

We actually dress up for dinner every night on our cruises which is why my wife brought 7 pairs of shoes and 4 handbags on our last cruise which was only 4 nights! I don't have the guts to ask her how many she brings on our 7 night cruises. But I will say, she always looks fantastic

I've worn my tux with a Disney Enchanted Tiki Room Cast Member shirt and no tie (to Remy, of all things), my tux with a tie and cummerbund, a black suit with Haunted Mansion tie and matching purple shirt (twice) and an Aloha shirt and shorts w/flip flops from the trips where I can remember my clothing. All have been perfectly acceptable.

In actuality, that sport coat and slacks--with no tie--would be just fine for formal night.

There is no need for a Tux or a suit/tie unless that is the way you want to dress.

There will be a # of folks that night just in their normal cruise casual.

We do late dining on the 4 night Dream cruises. I've never saw anyone on those cruises wear a formal gown or tux. A lot of shorts and sundress. Not to say they don't on early dining. Wear what ever you feel comfortable in within the guidelines.
