I was excited to see a discussion about purchasing gameboys for Disney trips. Maybe some of you gameboy moms and dads can help me. My 10 year old daughter loves her gameboy and it is a lifesaver for long trips. I would love to get my 6 year son old involved with a gameboy but the few games we have tried so far have seemed above his level. (The last one we tried was the Dalmations game). I am no help to him in trying to figure them out and my dd does not have the patience to help her little brother. Any suggestions of a very simple game that would be enjoyable but something that could be mastered by him (and maybe even me)?

I just bought our DS 6 a gameboy and for a first game, Mickey's Magical Racing Tour (because DS is home with the flu this week). It doesn't seem too complicated but we have only had it for a day or so. In the Mickey game, you drive a race car through various WDW attractions. DS seems to really like it, as he has thanked me for it countless times in the last day. I think it would be a fun game to prepare for a WDW trip, and I suspect that even a "cool" big sister might be interested. Looking forward to hearing others' suggestions...

Hi, my two sons love their Gameboys. My youngest (8) really likes the Arthur game as well as the Toy Story one. I think there is a racing game too that can link two Gameboys together so they can race each other. I think the links cost about $10.00 or so.

Good luck!

I agree with padams. The Mickey's Magical Racing Tour is pretty cool. For younger onces, I recommend Elmo's ABC's or 123's - fun but learning games too. Our daughter will be 8 and she plays Super Mario Brothers alot. Anyone thinking about purchasing the Gameboy Advance - make sure to look around - most stores are now selling them for $69.99 everyday price. That is $20.00 off the regular price. Some are still $89.99. And the gameboy games work on the new Gameboy Advance.

Our 6 year old was always wanting his brother's GB, so Santa brought him an advance for Christmas. He hasn't played it much yet, but it will be great on the drive down next month. He has Stuart Little for GB Color , which seems really simple and is cute. Also Spyro the dragon, but I think it's a little more advanced. What he really loves is his brother's BomberMan (or MegaBomberMan, I never can remember).

The Mickey's Magical Racing Tour sounds great - I think I'll look for that next.

Thanks for these suggestions! I really appreciate them.:pinkbounc

If it is a Gameboy Advance.....get Peter Pan Return to Neverland......It just came out...My 4 and half year old has Monsters, Inc for hers and a Rugrats one she loves.......

My girls are 5 & & and their favorites are Arthur, Powerpuff Girls and Dragon Tales. They like the Toy Story game but its a bit complicated and frustrating for the 5yo - she can't get the buttons timed to fly. My 5yo just loves the Little Mermaid pinball game, very simply and fun!

Is the Return to Neverland only for advance? Wonder if its worth picking up the advanced my girls LOVE peter pan sooo much.

I picked up the Mickey game in a two pack set (other one was TECH Skateboarding) for $20.00 at Target. Saving the Mickey game for the plane ride to Florida in April but my son (6) enjoys the skateboard game.

If you already have the gameboy I know blockbuster rents gameboy games. Whenever my girls think they want a game I always rent first to be sure its what they imagined and that they can play it. Then they know if they want to save for it, ask Santa etc.

My son is also 6 years old and he really loves the Pokemon games. We have the yellow, red and blue versions now. Me, I cannot figure out how to play this game to save my life but the kids just love it!

Toy Story, Pac Man and Mario and they are pretty big hits as well (plus the kids can always get mom to play pac-man with them - THIS is a game I know!). There's a new one out for Monsters Inc that my son is dying for, he's going to get it for his birthday in a couple of months.

We've found that the gameboys can be a real lifesaver at times while on vacation (in the car if driving or on the plane when flying, in the resort during downtimes and sometimes we even take them into the parks especially if we know we'll have a long wait for something like Fantasmic).

Have fun!

How does he feel about Pokemon. Get him the cheat books and he shouldn't have any trouble with those. DS has all of them.

My son is 5y/o and loves his gameboy. I have avoided spending a lot of money on the games by going to the local pawn shops. I usually pay about 4.00 each for these, and he has quite a large selection (25 or so)!! This way, you won't be out a lot money for a game he doesn't like.
He likes the Pokemon games. There's a lot of reading, but apparently you don't even have to be able to do that. Basically, there's a character going around a land trying to find Pokemon (No real skill necessary).
There are so many games available for young children. My son's first game was Dragon Tales, which even seemed a little hard to me. After playing it for a while, he got really good at it.
good luck.
Check out ebay. Sometimes, people sell multiple games in one lot.

We had to break down at Christmas and get a gameboy for our 2yo becasue she was always fighting with her brothers over theirs! (course we got it when Wal Mart had them for $30....)

She is almost 3 now and loves Snow White -maybe a little too girly for you DS, but it's really simple. She also likes the Rugrats - Angelica one.

my 4 yo DS really likes the Shrek game. There is also a MIckeyt's racing game (different from the WDW one) that is pretty simple. There is Scooby Doo one also that is also easier to play - but requires a good bit of reading.

The new Monsters Ic. game is also a pretty good one for "younger" players - at least the first few levels are (personally, I've never gotten passed the 3rd level :) )

Our 5 year old loves the gameboy. We purchased Mario Go Cart Race. It's a two player game. We purchased the link and another gameboy. Now he can play against his dad on the trip down. Also, there is another gameboy game that's pretty neat - it's called Dodge Ball. That's a simple game of pick up the ball and toss it.:)

MY ds liked his Sesame St Elmo in Grouchland game when he was younger- you can set it at differnt levels of play-- easy to hard--- so if the easy is too simple you can make it harder for him-- even I could play this one without too much help -- lol-- And of course the pokemon ones are great too! Another place to buy games is at Funcoland or simialr second hand games store--- we also have found games at video rental places as they sell off the older games that no one wants to play any more. Under $10 usually!

My just turned 7 year old son loves the new Jimmy Newtron game, as well as the Mickey's magical racing game and the Toy Story one. What a life saver!! We are driving 24 hours on Friday to WDW and plan to bring all his Game Boy games as well as several Disney movies for the new TV/VCR in the van. We flew last year, but are braving the drive this time!!
Good :Luck!!!

I have 4 sons, 11 the oldest, and a 4 & 5 yr old.....my 4 and 5 year old's favorites are....
all the Warios, the Marios, Kirby's Dream lands, donkey kongs. They are Game Boy aholics and they favor these over everything and they have quite a collection.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I plan to try e-bay today and see if I can get a group of some of the suggested games to have my 6 year old try out before our trip. I really appreciate the help.
