I am doing a split stay. I know they will transfer luggage, but read they will not transfer grocery/refrigerated items. I do not see well enough to use smart phone, so uber is out. Taxi is about $30. Buses and transfer works, but I have tried that before, and waited at DAK for over an hour for them to bring a bus for the resort I was moving to. That could be luck of the draw, but is quite frustrating. Ideas please and thank you.

You could take the monorail/boat to magic kingdom and then get bus to AKL. Do you have a large amount of groceries to bring too?

I am departing Jambo and moving to Poly. I don't think it will be a large amount. Some bacon & eggs, cheese, maybe some fruit, a few things I could carry in a grocery bag. The non-perishables can go in my suitcase. Thank you for the reply. That would beat an hour transfer at DAK.

Perhaps you could have a Cast Member help you request the Uber/Lyft from your cell phone? Install the app before you go and set up your account, have a family member or friend enter your details. I am sure they (CM) would be more than happy to put in the ride information for you at the Poly to get you over to AKL.

Sorry about that I misread, you could just reverse what I wrote bus to MK then Monorail/boat to Poly. Maybe bring a soft side cooler bag to carry your cold stuff

The bus times in MDE would tell you when MK bus is expected

Thank you, but I don't use a smart phone as I can't see well enough. I use an old flip-phone. But that is a good suggestion.

Another idea is to have a family member or friend (doesn't have to be with you at Disney) request and manage the Uber from their phone for you. I've done it for my mom before she had a smartphone.

You could bus from AKL to Animal Kingdom Park, then bus from Animal Kingdom Park to Poly.

Or you could bus from AKL to Magic Kingdom, and then take monorail or boat to Poly.

But either way, it's luck of the draw as to how long you wait for any mode of Disney transportation. Did you just miss one? Did the monorail break down? Did it start thundering, and the boat service stopped? You never know.

I probably would take a taxi. I get motion sick, so the less time on Disney buses for me, the better.

Unless I could replace the bacon, eggs, cheese and fruit for less than the cost of the cab. If that were the case, I would throw them out, go about my day, and replace them at the Poly.

Oh! Gotcha. I also misunderstood and thought you were going from the Poly to AKL. I agree with the other posters, bus to MK then monorail or boat to the Poly.

Could you call for a cab or have someone at the resort call a cab for you? No need to use an app.

I didn’t think you were allowed to bring luggage on Disney transportation.

I would recommend the bus from AKL to the Animal Kingdom, and then the bus from Animal Kingdom to Poly. I believe the AKL stop is number 17, and the Poly stop is number 12 at the Animal Kingdom depot, so it sounds like a simple walk under the roof to get to the other stop. If you are carrying a bag with some groceries, it shouldn't be an issue. Once you get to Poly, they'll gladly store them in their refrigerator until you get your room and the rest of your transferred luggage arrives. Option 2 would be to pay the taxi fee - they are usually waiting by the entrance to Jambo House. If not there, they could be there quickly.

Yes, I am thinking about doing just that, throw them away, and accept the loss, buy more at Poly, or not. I tried to do the transfer once from Jambo to Poly, bus to DAK, and waited an hour for bus to Poly. When I finally found someone who was supposed to be coordinating busses, he said it was early enough in the day, they weren't expecting people to leave yet, so he didn't notice me standing there for an hour!!

You aren't supposed to. It wouldn't be luggage, it would be a small grocery bag, but may need to just throw it away, and buy more at Poly or do without. Protein in the morning really helps for the day, and lasts longer.

It can definitely be a wait for a bus in the off hours at DAK. That is why the MK would be preferable, the monorail runs consistently.

OP, you said you wanted some bacon & eggs, cheese, maybe some fruit.

I look at the DVC grocery order form to get an idea of grocery pricing in the Poly hotel gift shop. I can't tell you for sure that it's accurate, but it's showing:

Bacon - Dietz & Watson Fully Cooked, 2.29 oz for $5.99
Eggs - large Grade A, 1 dozen for $3.99
Cheese - Kraft Colby, block for $5.99
Cheese - Kraft American slices, 12 slices for $5.99
Mini Baybel Cheese, 3 pack for $3.49
Apples, bananas and oranges: $1.69 each

Luggage no - but people do carry bags w/ things they’ve purchased & backpacks onto Disney transportation all the time. I second bringing a small soft sided collapsible cooler w/ a shoulder strap (you can find them for under $10 on Amazon, @ Walmart, etc.) that way OP won’t have to worry about keeping their items cold if Disney transportation is slow. I’d probably throw one of those $1 lunch size freezer packs into the villa’s freezer the night before to put in the cooler on transfer day. The easiest route will be busing to MK & then boating or taking the monorail to the Poly - I’d opt for the monorail as it’s typically faster than the boat.

Thank you, sndral.

Just wanted to add if you wanted your luggage and food to travel with you, you can call and set up a pick up day/time with Mears and have them transfer you, your luggage and food.
