Suggestions Needed for Best Way to "Remember Mommy"

That is the sweetest story I have ever heard. I'm all teary now

Your story hits way too close to home.

My wife Cathy passed away one month ago today at the age of 46. We were married for 20 years.
We had a WDW trip planned with my SIL and niece. We are still going and will be celebrating Cathy while there. Even a small part of her will be left behind so she will be in WDW forever.

Not quite sure how the whole trip will be but must keep moving forward with life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

While this might not necessarily fit your scenario, I wanted to suggest getting her a stone at Give Kids the World Village. It'd be a beautiful way to remember her.

I'd also fax a letter telling the story from the May trip and what happened to your wife to the manager of Animal Kingdom Lodge. Let him know that you are hoping it is going to be a special time for you all.

What a wonderful thing that she told you to take them to Disney World to think of her! All the happy things you can do at Disney while you remember her.

I agree with the PP's who said just let something happen. And I think reminding the kids what rides Mommy liked (or disliked!) and things like that. Maybe there is one particular attraction that you can consider "Mommy's"?

The Tink story is wonderful!

I cried reading your post, I think the ideas given are all good ideas.
Let it happen it will be a special trip!
If you need anything just ask we will help! :)
Have a great trip, we will be looking forward to seeing your pictures.:thumbsup2

Another DISer in tears. Thank you for sharing your story. As a DISer who is LIVING with a terminal illness it made me think this is what I would want for my grand-baby and that it is important to tell my loved ones.

I agree that magic happens in unexpected ways. I hope your trip is filled with many.

Thank you for sharing. It is a great day to be alive.

What a touching story. It brought tears to my eyes too. I agree with others to just let the magic happen. Given your experience with Tink I'm sure more magical moments will just happen. I think when they happen spontaneous they're even more magical. You could plan a couple things but then you might be disappointed if it doesn't happen the way you plan. I hope you enjoy your stay!! I'll be at AKL the same time you're there.

Hey, maybe we can say Hi! Glad to see you'll be enjoying Gay Days. There's a HUGE festival here in Toronto every year, and it's always the best party of the year. I'd especially love to see Star Wars Gay Days!! :)

Back to the subject, does anyone know if you can purchase a plaque on a park bench or something? I know the stones on the walkways are not for sale any more.

Wow...I am just in tears.

I am going to subscribe to this thread - It sounds like you are doing a great job of keeping her memory alive for your family.

I love how magical Disney can be and how it can be a happy place for you and your family.

It is...indeed.

They are really a cute kids! They are just going to love being there with you and grandma. :)

Ok crying here too. Your kids are adorable. I do like the ballon idea at MK. Whatever you decide it will be special. I hope your trip is amazing.

:hug::hug:Your post has me in tears, too! What a wonderful way to remember their mommy by going to her favorite place! She must have been an amazing woman to make sure her kids would be happy at WDW and not crying at a cemetery! And you are an amazing dad to give that to your kids and to yourself! You're an inspirational family! I hope and pray you have more magical moments on your next trip! Could they wear a button (like the birthday/first trip/anniversary ones) that say something like "remembering mommy". That way CMs will know this is an extra special trip. Just a thought. Maybe that would be too sad, I don't know. What do others think?

I looked at your pics and your children are adorable!

you have adorable kids Paul!

i agree with everyone about letting things happen, but i also like the balloons at MK idea!

it's wonderful that you're taking your MIL with you so that she can enjoy being with her grandchildren in her daugther's favorite place on earth! :goodvibes

I think the most fun will be the first day when we enter the Magic Kingdom. I'm taking my son to the Pirates League and my MIL is taking the twins to BBB for 9:30am appointments. They have no idea this is happening, so it will be a cool surprise. Also that night, after dining at 1900 park fare, we're doing the Pirates and Pals boat cruise. Hopefully that's not too much in one day.

Teary-eyed here too - hugs to you Disney Dad Canada & GOLD04 :grouphug:

cheers,
:flower3:

Your post really moved me.

Super impressed at how Tink recovered the situation "Mommy's in Heaven" and I'm positive you made a brilliant decision in purchasing DVC with your wife's life insurance. She would obviously have agreed with that.

Have a great time.

:hug: FWIW, my dad died 6 years ago and I still "talk" to him as I wander the parks. (the last place he went before he was diagnosed with his final cancer was Universal Orlando, so I chat with him a lot there-I consider my trips there to be my way to remember him. My mother has his mass and visits to him, I have the Mummy) We've taken to getting pressed pennies, and putting them on his grave when we visit him.
