suggestions for surprises for ds's b-day

Hey Ya'll -

OK, now down to business ...
We have a family trip planned for mid July to celebrate my son's 9th birthday. We (DH, DS, DD (age 5), and myself) will be staying in AKL at my son's request. Can you give me some ideas for some surprises that will make the trip even more special? For example, I had thought about contacting the resort to see if I could purchase some Disney Dollars over the phone and have them waiting in the room (perhaps with a note from Mickey) for both children. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Pick up a birthday button at City Hall at MK and Guest Relations at AK. Wear both of them all the time. They had a birthday cake hat last year, that I wanted to buy, but never did. The candles lit up, too.

The only thing not allowed at AKL is balloons - it's a threat to the animals if they escape your room onto the savanna... you might want to order something from the walt disney florist for your arrival date - they have some kids items/baskets

You could also buy something at home and mail it to the hotel to be put in your room for arrival.

You could also bring the present with you and while one of you goes to the room after check in - you could take your son out to see the savanna and meanwhile the gift you brought could be set up quickly.

I am not sure about the mickey letter etc... with so many people checking in and out - things like this can fall through the cracks and you may be disappointed. Once you are actually there though - I think you can ask for a mickey letter to be left in the room during your stay.

We used Gifts of a Lifetime for my daughter's 13th birthday. Jane planned a scavenger hunt a MGM studios based on my daughter's interests. At the time, we were really into watching the TV show, The Amazing Race. Jane set it up so that it was very similar to that. It was wonderful and made her day extra special. That night we had dinner at the Hoop De Doo Review. They recognized all the people there celebrating birthdays. No matter what you do, he will always remember this birthday just because he was at Disney!

I would rent a birthday boat either to see Illuminations at Epcot or take one from the seven seas lagoon and watch the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom. I have done both for my children and they were spectacular! The boat comes decorated with balloons and banners and they have a cake with the child's name on it and sodas. Worth evey penny. We kept it a surprise and just strolled to the dock that night.

Also Chef Mickey's is great for a birthday celebration. We did one for breakfast and it was fun. They gave my child a cupcake and a special placemat and acknowleded his birthday to everyone there. Everyone sings and twirls napkins. It was fun.

I'm planning a surprise birthday trip for my son. On his 12th birthday, October 5, we're having breakfast at Chef Mickey's, dinner at LTT, and doing MNSSHP.

When I made the PS for LTT I ordered a birthday cake, it was only $10.

We're doing HDDR the night before his birthday and a birthday Illuminations Cruise on the night we check in. ( have my fingers crossed for this one, I hope I can get a boat when I call in July)

I checked out Gifts of a Lifetime's site, but I got the feeling those events were for adults. Glad to know they can put something together for kids.

Right now son is into the Matrix, he wants to dress like those twin things for halloween. I wonder if gifts could do something with a Matrix spin.
