Suggestions for SSR location

We will be going down to SSR for spring break next year. Our break is the week before Easter next year. We will be either doing a full week in a 1BR or 5 days (not Fri-Sat) in a 2BR--leaning toward making DS sleep on the floor to get those 2 extra days!
My kids will be 17, turning 14 during the trip, and 10. The pool is important for DS to swim and the older to to "lay out". The older two are also interested in DTD.
My guide suggested the Springs (for the pool, counter service and check-in) and congress park (for DTD). How far is Congress Park from the main pool that we saw on the tour? Is there another section that would also meet our needs?
Thanks for any help--I never gave SS a thought until last Tuesday, and even though I can't book until May, I like to have an idea ahead of time.
Also--we didn't see an elevator on our tour, how many are in each building? And is day-by-day booking needed for spring break at SS, even though it's so huge, or can I wait until the last day and book the entire week?

We had similar desires as you did on our last vacation. Request a unit in Congress Park nearest to the main pool. The walk is not bad at all to the pool. Also, for your kids who like DTD, the DTD bus has no stops between the Congress Park pickup and the DTD depot.

We have stayed in both Congress Park and most recently, The Grand Stand.
Staying at the Grand stand we had our balcony overlooking the golf course and when we opened our front door we were right above the Grand Stand pool. I like that pool better than the main pool as it is less crowded. Very short walk to the main area. Bus stop very close by. When we stayed in congress park, we had a great view of DTD from our balcony. There was a quiet pool right there. Short walk to DTD, you really don't even need to take the bus. Longer walk to the main area though. We loved both of the areas for different reasons. Hope this helps!

Yes it does. Which area gets the first bus pickup/dropoff? That can be important at the end of a long day.

I requested The Springs when we checked in (thanks to some DISers suggestions). The location was PERFECT !! We were right next to the main building/pool. The bus stop was right around the corner and the walk to DTD was ~ 9 minutes. I will definitely request this location when we stay at SS again (and we will stay there again, as it was a great resort).

GStand gets picked up first and dropped off first so I've been told. We'll be staying there 5/3 - 5/10 so are also interested in any "view" info!

Is there somewhere you can see which section is which? The map at the DVC site doesn't lable the different sections.
