Hi All! My hubby and I are pathetically attached to our two short coat collies so we think we want to perhaps buy a camper and take them with us when visiting the world. To that end- we are going to visit FW on a Saturday in OCT ( without the doggies) to check it out! I have booked trail's end for dinner at 6:30 and i have booked a haunted carriage ride as a surprise for my hubby in the evening. Any reccomendations on what we should do and see? Should we rent a golf cart to drive around and check out the fenced in dog areas? Any advice would be appreciated. TIA!

Here's what we do we when go to FW for a visit -
we thoroughly enjoy the rocking chairs on the Trail's End porch;
browsing thru the shops;
walking around the petting zoo & the horse barn;
walking the nature trail between FW & FWL;
riding our bikes (or rent bikes at FW) & riding everywhere;
taking a boat ride on the big boat that goes to the MK & elsewhere.

We so enjoy the trees and outdoor atmosphere. We regularly visit FW, even though we have sold our rv.

Don't know if you can rent a golf cart if you are not staying in FW. If not, & you don't want to ride bikes, you can ride the buses around to get a good look-see & hop on/hop off as you like.

Enjoy, Julie
another thought - you don't have to buy an rv just to stay at FW. You could rent one of the cabins (I think the price is way too much!), or you could rent a motorhome locally, just drive the few miles to FW, enjoy your stay, & then drive a few miles to take it back. The prices are about the same as staying at a value resort, or less (but then add in the rv site fee).

You CAN rent a golf cart from Disney if not staying at the campground or even if staying off site.

I was in the Orlando area for work a bunch early this year and did happen to have a weekend free.

I drove over to the Fort on a Saturday morning, and on a whim walked to the Outpost desk and asked about renting a cart. They had one available. They did ask my site number, and I told them truthfully that I was not a Disney resort guest. They wrote N/A on the form and didn't bat an eye.

I rode the cart around all that day and visited with friends and had dinner at Trails End and watched the movie. I parked it in golf cart parking at the Outpost that night and kept the keay and headed back to my hotel. I returned the next morning, grabbed the cart from the parking area, rode around some more and drove it to the turn in point right at 11am.

Absolutely not a problem.

This is a great idea. :thumbsup2 I have a free day where the people I'm going to Disney with are going to Universal to see Harry Potter. I have absolutely no interest in that. Unfortunately we aren't staying at The Fort this time. I think I'll just take the day and meander around The Fort. :snail: I might even make myself reservations at Trails End and snooze in the rockers. Think they'd mind if I hang my lime green undies on the rail?

Enjoy, Joyce in Texas. At the Fort, I don't imagine anyone will even notice your hanging laundry! You'll fit right in! DH & I have spent our time sleeping in the rockers!

My son and I took the FW Segway Tour on July 20 at 11:30 A.M. Maybe you could try that tour, it was really fun and we went all over FW. The tour lasted 2 hours and worth every penny! By the way....we passed the dog park and it looked very nice!
