Any tips for what type of motion sickness medicine to pick up before our next WDW trip? I know it may sound silly, but I really don't have any idea of what to purchase :confused3 I tend to get motion sickness fairly easily and have learned to avoid rides that cause it, but we are taking our first trip with kids this year and DS has the "Disneyland Fun" sing along video and is convinced he needs to ride some of the rides that I know will make me  .... Teacups and Astro Orbiter are among his list. Thanks for any advice!

Gravol is good but can make you sleepy. You might also want to try wearing seabands instead of ingesting medication.

Bonine or dramamine(this one will make you sleepy) on the podcast recently they suggested ginger pills

I use - in this order:
1. ReliefBand (it was a Rx when I got mine ~$99 - looks like a watch and sends an electrical stimulus down your hand... it works pretty good)
2. Bonine (not dramimine b'c it is more drowsy than Bonine; I ask the doc for a Rx to the generic brand - "meclizine" which I think is more effective than the over the counter brand)
3. Transderm Scop Rx patch (behind ear - wash your hands)
4. Motion Eze (herbal put a dab behind your ear)
5. Ginger capsules

sometimes I use all 5 plus keep something non-greasy on my stomach like pretzels! :sad2: BTW, ONLY the ReliefBand is touted as being able to be used AFTER you start to feel sick; the others you should apply BEFORE... or you'll be sorry..........

tried the elastic wrist things, they don't work

hey there! I often get motion sickness a lot and i have been using Dramamine (less drowsy formula) for about 6 years now probably. I think it works wonders! hopefully you find something that works for you...good luck!:thumbsup2

Hey fellow motion sick sufferer here!! I used both the transderm patch behind my ear (got a prescription from Dr.) and the meclazine pills. I was not taking any chances!!:lmao: I also brought ginger pills, found in the vitamin section of the drug store. They seemed to settle my stomach when I got the 'tummy twitch' The only trouble I had was the double vision, that was almost enough to make me sick!! SO I took the patch off mid vacation and used only the pills. They don't make you as sleepy as dramamine, but you can lose some energy. I was able to do every ride I wanted. (I avoid anything that spins just to be safe... teacups:scared: ) Hope this helps!!

before they re-formulated the patch, DH & I would take one patch and cut it in 1/2 and each just use 1/2. Seemed to be enough for us. Maybe 1/2 would be enough; you might want to check w/your doc for next time.

Another tip, it is CRITICAL that you WASH YOUR HANDS IMMEDIATELY after using the transderm scop. If you accidentally touch your eyes after putting the patch on, you will dialate your pupils and be in the dark for days! Be careful!

Yep, I like the Rx meclizine; way less drowsy than the less-drowsy formula of over the counter dramamine!

My mom swears by bonine. She took a dose every morning before we hit the parks.

I too get motion sickness very easily. I take ginger root pills. They really seem to help me. I take one in the morning and one later on in the afternoon. They get me through the day at WDW. Without them I wouldn't be able to ride EE, SM or any other ride for that matter. It's something to consider and they are relatively cheap.

FWIW, meclizine is sold OTC now. It's the same thing that is in Bonine. If you ask at the Pharmacy in the discount chains, they will sometimes have bottles of meclizine at a much lower price than what is out in the aisles. The last time I bought it, I paid 9.99 for 100 tabs vs. 4.99 for 16 brand-name.

Personaly, I've found the OTC meclizine to NOT work as well as the Rx meclizine - not sure if it's the formulary or what but I insist my doc give me a Rx for it! (maybe it's just in my head but...)

I was so happy to discover the Reliefbands they have worked the best without any medication. :thumbsup2
I get sleepy even taking the nondrowsy meds plus my DH cannot take
some of the MS Meds because he takes High Blood pressure meds.
He finially tried my Relief Band and was amazed at how effective it was
even after starting to feel motion sickness. I have since purchased 3 of the
RB for everyone in the family. My DSister even bought one and loves hers.
