My son and I will arrive between 3-5 p.m. on 12-1 (Sunday). We are driving from TN (about 10 hours). I had not planned on attending MVMCP that night, but thanks to a very generous DISer giving us a ticket, we are now going! We would like to have dinner at a MK resort and either hop on the monorail or boat afterwards. What would your suggestion be for dinner? Would dinner at 5:30 p.m. be enough time?

My DS is 16. We have been to all of the character meals and I promised him he would not have to "suffer" through any this trip (except LTT the night of 12-3 MVMCP). What do you think?

I would suggest Grand Floridian Cafe for a nice quick meal. It is far from fast food! It is pricey but very relaxed and I think your 16 y/o would like it.

Depends what you are after:

Contemporary has a "snack bar" area on the registration floor. They offer a variety of items that you order i.e. cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, etc. You order, pick it up and then find a seat. It is typically very busy and noisy.

Grand Floridian has a couple options: The first would be the cafe there. Kinda spendy but nice. The second would be their snack bar area. You have to hunt for it in the hotel but it is very nice the food isn't bad.

Polynesian: You have the snack bar area here and Kona Cafe. We have eaten there and the food is okay. Can't even remember what we had just that it wasn't terrible or terrific. Some just love it.

If you decide to go to a sit-down restaurant I would definitely call and see if you can get a PS. I would guess all the MK resort restaurants will be busy prior to an MVMCP.

How about the Poly for dinner and it is on the monrail for MK.

I would suggest Grand Floridian Cafe also, plus you get to see the wonderful Christmas decorations in the lobby.

I don't believe GF Cafe is open for dinner anymore, just breakfast & lunch.

A lot depends on your food preferences and price range. But offhand, Kona at the Poly might be nice--or Natcoossee at the GF.

From past experience I would not suggest eating on the monorail route. Last year we waited an extra hour at 1900 Park Fare to be seated because of the overcrowd and people lingering with their meals until they were ready to go to MVMCP.

Just my advice though!~

Last year we ate at O'hana's on our arrival day prior MCMCP and it couldn't have worked out better. We had earliest PS, likely 5:30, and the food was served promptly. We were starved and really pigged out, with many refills on the wontons as they are my daughter's favorites. We were all quite impressed. It was then just a short hop on the monorail and we arrived at MK without a hitch. Thanks to these boards I knew that they were letting guests into the party early, so we had extra time to enjoy our magical holiday evening!

We are just back and ate dinner at Trail's End buffet in Ft. Wilderness before MNSSHP. Just a quick boat ride to MK. There is also Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge on the same ferry route- get a ps. My 11 yr old DS loved both of these restaurants.
