Suggestions for "elevator" shoes?

Let's use common sense here. Buying something, say those shoes in the banner, that would make your child 4 inches taller to ride a roller coaster is NOT the same thing as buying children's sneakers that make your child 1/2" taller for Soarin' or Star Tours. Is the 1/2" breaking the rules? Probably. But it doesn't make you a bad parent who is endangering their child. I mean, it's Soarin', not RNR or EE or SM!

This is why the Spice Girls need to make a comeback.. again. When I was younger the "Spice Girls shoes" were all the rage, and they worked wonders for this time of thing.

Don't hate me! I'm still alive and didn't die!

I have to laugh, because across the top of this thread, there is an "elevator shoe" ad banner!
Just seems to add fuel to the fire, doesn't it? :rolleyes1

LMAO!!!! Thats too funny! I didn't notice it until you mentioned it.

I want to hear more from the lecture-ers.....I always love how they say that it jeopardizes kid's safety -- 42" is safe but 41.5" is negligence. If the heights are so gospel, then why are they always even numbers? Also, I have studied as much as I can of major injuries at WDW, and I have yet to find an instance of the death of a child who was 1/2 inch shorter than the height restrictions. But let the games continue.......

Good luck either way. Disney's measurements are WAYYY off. My son is 39 inches tall and barely hit the 35 inch requirement for the barnstormer and was WAY under the requirement for primeval whirl. How that works, I don't know :confused3

The measurements are NOT way off. They are spot on. Like I said in the other thread, DS3 is an inch+ shy of being 40" barefoot and hit the mark in sandals at every single 40" ride (this was just at the beginning of this month). And it definitely wasn't any CM's being kind to let him on. He went up and bonked his head at the top of every rail in the morning and was standing up very tall to make height by the end of the day, but still made it.

DD5 is 49" and just made the heights on RNRC and Primeval Whirl so again those are also pretty spot on if not set maybe a bit higher than 48". I think for PW, the bar actually needs to be a little higher as it threw her head around too much for my comfort.

And I think you might have confused PW with something else? The height for that ride is 48" so yes your son would be WAY under the height requirement at the height of 39".

DS3 was not stopped at the Barnstormer to be measured so I personally have no idea how far off or on target that stick is.

Fine then maybe I read the height requirements for PW wrong, but they ARE off. By a LOT. The fact that he barely hit 35 inches on their measurements is enough proof for me. Or maybe our measuring tape is wrong :rotfl:

I forgot the guy's name, but a young man who was a little too short to join the Navy used to hang upside down by his legs from a pole and I think he held weights at the same time. Anyway, he was able to "grow" just enough to pass the height requirement. I think he became a pretty senior Naval Officer by the end of his career.

I think the story was on 60 Minutes several years ago.

So................go buy one of those poles that you put inside the door frame and get busy!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I was thinking the same thing. I remember an episode of the Brady Bunch when Bobby was trying to gain some height so he would hang from the swing set.

:lmao:This is too funny! At least I know there are elevator shoes out there so DS can ride all he wants! He is 2 and is 37" :rotfl2:

Well, if they lower it to 41.5 then people like you would be "a half inch is fine", then you would think 41 is ok. So that's now a full inch off disneys policy.

Just follow the rules people. Jeeze.

There are a lot of sneakers out there that have a heel that's more than half an inch. Clogs tend to have a heel also, and can be pretty comfy. I would not use inserts - that seems like cheating. That said, my daughter (without me knowing it, although I think my husband knew) once put granola bars (in the wrappers, of course) in her shoes to hit a height requirement at Great America.

This is toooo funny! :) Sounds like something my daughter would do with her dad's assistance. How old was she at the time? I wonder if it was uncomfortable walking on granola bars all day!! ;)

Our dd is 41.5-42 inches with no shoes(she was just measured at her doctor's appt about a month ago). My question is, if there is any question about her height, can I ask to have her measured without her shoes? I am afraid they will measure her and then think we are trying to pull a fast one with the shoes. I keep telling her there is a chance that she may not make it on some of the "big people" rides like she has wanted to go on for so long. Any thoughts? Most of her shoes that she will wear are pretty normal but some of the tennis shoes that they make these days seem to make you higher and I don't want that to affect her getting on the ride if that is what they are thinking.

I'm not even going to get into the debate part of this but Sketchers always have thick soles. I'm short so I wear them all the time.

But, then again, as others in the know have posted, if the CM sees thick soles, they will ask you to take the shoes off. :confused3

Well the soles on sketchers are not high enough to draw attention to yourself, they are a 1/2 inch usually though which is what the OP asked for. I meet hight requirements without them so I don't wear them to get on rides I wear them to not look so short and stubby. My kids all wear the same brand and have never had a problem at any parks with being questioned.

I suppose if someone "breaks" the height requirement rule and a Tragedy happens that they wouldn't sue Disney now would they? they would blame themselves...right?

How can you put the word "safely" in the same sentence as one about how to break the safety rules?

:confused3
