suggestions for comfortable disney shoes - broken pinky toe :(

A friend recommended I try a pair of danskos on my last trip to DLR, and my problem feet (heel spur and plantar fasciitis) were very happy, even though we walked 20k steps each day (that's what my pedometer said, anyway). I have never broken a toe, so I can't know what would be a great shoe in those circumstances, but thought I'd post that anyway.

I went at the end of April and wore a new pair of Clarks. They are a Mary Jane style. Didn't wear socks. First time EVER my feet didn't hurt at DL. They were amazing and they are real leather so my feet did not sweat. I brought a "back up" pair of shoes just in case and put them in a locker, but I never needed them.

I think with a broken toe, I would be really worried someone would step on my toe in flip flops. Yes, someone stepping on it would hurt in regular shoes too, but I would think it would be worse in flip flops. I know I've been stepped on numerous times (sometimes by my own kids, but sometimes strangers). I feel for you! Breaking your toe hurts SO bad. I hope you find a comfortable pair of shoes. Have a wonderful time!

Have you tried a pair of the Sanuk shoes? They are really soft and are not tight around the toes. I haven't bought a pair myself but I've tried them on several times. I know there is a Sanuk store in downtown Disney. They are not cheap though. About $55-65 but compared to good runners they are cheaper.

Just make sure you wrap the toe or tape it to the toe next to it. Not too tight so it doesn't swell, but you want it snug. Icing it might help too.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I like the idea of orthopedic flip flops, sounds easy & comfy. But there's two problems with that - sunburned feet (or applying sunscreen every hour) and I'm kind of accident prone (like stubbing my toe on a concrete step lol).

I have these and wore them last night - plenty of space to not put pressure on the toes, but they need a LOT of padding (wore them to DL once...sooo much pain), and they require those little socks I hate.

No sure about other styles, but these are the ones I love. http://www.amazon.com/Skechers-Womens-Go-Walk-Slip-On/dp/B005GI8UZ8 . I wear them without socks (I'm a sock hater), but you could wear them with a thin sock.

Those are the exact ones I was looking at (and the local Famous Footwear shows them as instock). Do they need additional insoles for padding? I usually need extra padding for any shoes I wear and I can't imagine going sockless with insoles being comfortable, hopefully they have enough padding.

Try some different shoes. I had a major toe injury to my pinkie toe in the winter. I had it xrayed and they didn't see a break, but I'm sure there was some sort of break. I had pain for about 6 weeks, but it did thankfully heal.

When the pain was really bad, I couldn't wear my work shoes at all, but I had a pair of saucony runners and a pair of new balance shoes that both felts the best. It did hurt putting them on, but once they were on, it was very comfortable enough.

I also found the taping made the pain worse for some reason.

I'd suggest you try some different shoes and see which ones feel best. I litereally screamed about the first week to two weeks when I put my shoe on! I feel your pain, it sucks!

You might consider some sort of crutches or cane for support depending on how bad it was. I couldn't walk much at all the first 1-2 weeks.

They feel very padded to me, but they don't have much arch support. I find them really comfortable because they are so squishy, but I think if I walked all day my foot might feel a little tired because of the lack of arch support. I'm planning on bringing my Gowalk Baby and switching out halfway through the day with my Asics.

I got a pair of Go-Walks last year before our trip to DL. I have the lace up ones which seam to run a little big. Lots of room in the toe area. They are so comfortable and lots of cushion. You don't need any type of insert. They breath and dry real fast if they get wet on a water ride. I ended up buying a second pair and might get another pair of our Nov. trip to DL. I like having different colors to chose from.

Just got back, thought I'd update :)

The first day and a half I wore my old Skechers (I'm cheap and was thinking if I could make do, I'd return the Go Walk). I got a blister on my broken toe from buddy taping! Not fun. Because of general soreness, I switched to the Skechers Go Walk shoes (and went sockless). I got two more blisters! (inside edge, ball of foot) That was the first time I ever got blisters at DL.

They ARE comfy shoes though! Guess I just need to have two pairs (make sure they are always dry, might have been the problem), or wear socks.

I would go with Orthaheels. I asked my local running store for flip flop recommendations and they suggested these. They have changed my life!

Two things. First, did you put cotton between your toes before taping the, together? I've broken my pinky toes a total of 5 times (speaking of accident prone :) ) and they didn't tell me about putting something between the toes to prevent blisters until the second or third time. Second, yes, get two pairs. I find that if I don't change shoes midday, my feet hurt and ache by the end of the night.

lol Nope, sure didn't. After that blister showed up though, I just went without tape, put some moleskin over it instead (it was on the top of my toe, so it didn't affect walking too much). Now the other two blisters from wearing the GoWalk shoes without socks (wet a couple of times)....that wasn't fun to walk on.

Fit flops!! They are super comfy!!

I have been wearing FitFlops for about 5 years now and I must say that I am totally spoiled to them. I wore them in December for a 10 day trip to Disney World and they were amazing! Never did my feet hurt. I had to stop several times during the day for my husband to rest his feet in his tennis shoes but mine weren't tired or sore at all.

I just got back from Disneyland/DCA for 4 days Saturday June 8-Tues June 11.
I wore my FitFlops everyday and I was the only one in my party that did not have tired, sore feet at the end of the day. One of my daughters wore her crocs, the other wore sketcher air walks and my 2 grandkids wore Teva flip flops. By 5 or 6 oclock everyone was complaining of how their feet were hurting. Not mine!:cool1: We opened and closed the parks the first 3 days and the last day we were there 7am-2pm and my feet never hurt at all and i'm not a small woman (5' 8"/185lbs). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my FitFlops!

I will say that I don't wear any other shoes. Once you wear them you won't want to wear anything else.:thumbsup2

I sound like a FitFlop commercial so I will stop now:rotfl:

For anyone that likes to wear flip flops..... beware.
I would never ever wear flip flops to parks, because like the name goes, the shoe flops and then you flip. Man it's just not a good thing and is a bad deal. It's just a good thing that first aid available.
Those are just dangerous and I'm not joking either.

I can't stand fitflops *and I have cute Mickey ones* Loved my Croc Capris, love my original Teva Mush, I ordered a pair of OrthaHeels from QVC *they aren't here yet.

I've been wearing these Crocs for the past month or so.
I have these too and they're great!

I also have these and they're fantastic.

And these ~ great deal, I got a kids size 5!
