We are attempting to plan a 4 week stay in the summer of 2005. It will be me and my 2 kids for most of the time with husband for the first 3 and last 10 days. The places we are considering are

Marriott Grand VIsta
Orange Lake
Either of the Vistanas
HGVC

Now I know renting a home would be alot cheaper, but I really wanted a "resort" type place. Do you think a two bedroom at either of these places would be ok for an extended period. Of course we would be doing the parks intermittantly, but basically looking at it as a summer home.

Any thoughts?

unless you specifically want a time share resort, from what I've read, if you rent say a pool home from a private owner with a management company, alot of them will offer a discount on extended stays such as yours. You might be able to get more bang for your buck in a private pool home & have a WHOLE house & WHOLE pool to yourself.

Maybe the homes in Windsor Palms might be an option since they have a resort setting.

cinamin27 beat me to it. Windsor Palms has homes but also has a clubhouse, game room, exercise room, theater, pool, tennis courts, playground so it does have a resort feel to it. I agree that you'd probably do better to rent a home for that period of time. Worth looking in to.

I am planning on following this thread. Its something I've thought about doing for a long time. I've stayed several times at Windsor Palms and although we loved having the space and the house was lovely, I know what you mean about the resort feel. I much prefer to stay in a tru resort.

We were in Ft Lauderdale last week at the Marriott Beachplace Towers in a 2 b/r and I could have stayed there for a month no problem.

WEll, every time we stay at Vistana I try to convince my Dh that we could just live there! The only thing that comes to mind though is, cha ching! I would think it would be big $$ to stay for 4 weeks, which if that is not an issue then sure why not? You have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, plenty of room and tons to do. I do wonder if it would be hard to arrange to stay in the same unit though for that long. With them being timeshares, you would have to be placed in a unit that does not have it's weeks reserved for a whole month.

I would call them and find out! Sure sounds fabulous! Let us know what you find out.

Well of course $$ is always an issue, but my thinking is I may able to get someplace for about $2500.00 for the month which I do not think is totally out of the question. I've been checking rates for this July as a comparison, and it certainly could be done at a number of places. Wyndaham Palms, a few Marriotts and a place called a Clarion Suites (which I know nothing about) Of course this is all because it is pretty short notice, so I do not think anything planned 12 mos out would yield any type of decent prices. You do bring up a good point of having to change units, but they can just be either worked out or at the least, a minor inconvenience.

We are really going to GO FOR IT. Oh the joy of planning.::yes::
