We know that the drive home can be rather long, since the anticipation etc.. is gone, everyone's tired. We're driving back home to Canada, so we're thinking of making a one night stop somewhere, and spending a day doing something fun. We're planning on going route 81/77 to avoid the 95 as much as possible, especially around Baltimore, NYC etc... but not opposed to traveling the 95 in the lower states. So.... any suggestions for a fun day stop? No beaches (DH's request), no theme park (we'll be theme parked out!), but something neat, interesting, a neat experience, a sight seeing thing etc... We have two kids age 8 & 5, leaving Florida on July 3rd, the kids love animals, water, boats, horses (including watching racing and riding themselves) pirates, trains... all sorts of things, lol.

I did x-post this in the Canadian board.

Where about in Canada are you headed?

Since you're going the 81/77 route (which I don't blame you about, driving through DC/Baltimore/NYC is a pain), I'll just suggest a stop at Hershey PA. I know you said, no theme parks but you could at least visit the chocolate "factory" there. The town of Hershey is nice too.

BTW, Nice part of the country up there and nice people. We were in Halifax NS two years ago having driven from Plymouth, MA and really enjoyed ourselves. Will be flying up there in August to visit friends again.

I had even thought of just a resort, something like Great Wolf Lodge, but holy cow - the cheapest we could get for that weekend was $300 a night. No way!
