I am helping my cousin plan a day at MK with her grandchildren. What attractions would you suggest for her grandson who will have just turned 1 year old when they visit WDW? Thanks!!

My 17 month old LOVED the parades!....she danced along to the music and was in awe:) She also loved Casey's Splash Station near the Barnstormer.

anything without a height requirement.
just a few that immediately pop into my head...
peter pan's flight
it's a small world
winnie the pooh
dumbo
under the sea~journey of the little mermaid
the haunted mansion
jungle cruise
pirates of the caribbean
tomorrowland transit authority peoplemover
carousel of progress
parades
character meet n greets

A one-year old will not really care much what they do or see. However, I would not recommend Haunted Mansion, Carousel of Progress or Peter Pan - just because they don't have a height requirement does not mean anyone should ride them/watch the show. The one-year old would probably be happiest playing at the pool at their resort, not being schlepped around MK. Sorry, but that is the reality. I assume there are other grandchildren so just do what they want to do and hope the one-year old doesn't get upset or cranky.

isn't that kinda the point?
they really aren't gonna mind what attractions they do at that age.
generally a baby is not going to be scared of the haunted mansion like a 3yr old may be.
heck most children that age can sleep through fireworks vs being afraid of them because its loud and in the dark.
a 1yr old is not gonna mind being pushed in a stroller around a theme park.
in fact most babies enjoy being pushed in a stroller.
there's only so much time that a 1yr old or any age should be at a pool in direct sunlight.
being cool in the shade/in a building is better for florida heat and humidity.

i understand you have your opinion and i have mine but i just felt like i needed to put my 2 cents in in response to your post.

My son was 1 when we took him the first time. He loved the slow boat rides best - Small World and Jungle Cruise were his favorites! She should probably check to see if he is afraid of characters. They can be intimidating to little kids!!

They are only taking him to one park for one day- Magic Kingdom.

DD was 15 months on her first trip. She enjoyed most of the no height requirement rides. There is a lot for a little one to look at, and like others said they aren't old enough to be afraid. We were there with our older children, as well but she was in constant awe.

Our 1 yr old loved everything from the characters to the tea cups to the haunted mansion. When he went at 18 months he loved everything but the characters and Davy Jones.

My son was 19 months at his first trip. He loved everything! In fact at his daycare they taught some them some signs. After Haunted Mansion he kept signing "more" so I know he loved it. Still does ;)

I tend to agree. Our kids would not have cared if it was the MK, a local carnival, or going to the mall. If one wants to go tow WDW then go and have fun.

My daughter was terrified by HM at age 2, so I would not recommend that at all, but from reading the posts above some kids love it, so who knows??
Personally, I would stick with Fantasyland and then move on if there is time/energy.

We took our son at 7 months and had such a great time that we went back for his first birthday. He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and knows those characters, so we spent time meeting them at Sideshow Pete's in Fantasyland and Mickey at Town Theater. Some of his favorite rides/attractions were It's a Small World, riding the railroad, Dumbo, the Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates, etc. We didn't do the Haunted Mansion b/c we were not sure how that would work out.

The parades were a huge hit, but the fireworks scared him. We were watching them from Fantasyland and knew they would probably be an issue (didn't do well at Epcot the night before), so we ducked into It's a Small World - and ended up having an entire boat to ourselves. That ended up being a great Disney memory.

I have seen many studies and polls, that say children 5 and under.Enjoy resort swimming pools the best.I'm not saying they will not have a great time at MK.I would try a few rides in Fantasy Land to see what they seem to enjoy most. Then go from there to attractions that are somewhat similar. Danny

we took my daughter for the first time when she was 15 months! she LOVED it!!! her favorites were small world, pirates of the Caribbean, peter pans flight, little mermaid, jungle cruise, buzz lightyear, she actually enjoyed the 3-d show mickeys philharmagic in fantasyland...i didn't expect her to keep her glasses on, but she did and she loved it! we put her on anything she could get on and she enjoyed all of it! we had a ball! she wasnt cranky, except for the normal one year old stuff, we made sure she had snacks and water and sunscreen! she loved her stroller rides and with all the excitement going on there, there was always something for her to watch while we pushed her around, just being in the hustle and bustle of Disney was fun for her! one year olds and Disney world is definitely doable! and its soooo much fun at that age because everything is sooo magical to them! have fun and take tons of pictures!!!

Wrong. Your one-year-old must be a real stick-in-the-mud. My one-year-old loved MK (also the pool, BTW).

I think there is something to this. As much as our son loved rides he was most fascinated by the impressions in the ground in NF and by Aladdin. At that age you'll never know what wows them.

We took our daughter, when she was 15 months, for a 4 day stay. We spent all four days in the parks. At that age, and even a bit older, I would recommend a midday break of sorts. We were able to go back to our hotel. If you're going for one day...? I'm not sure. The kid will fall asleep at some point. Our daughter loved Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Dumbo and Buzz Lightyear in the Magic Kingdom. While I cannot speak for other children, our daughter also loved meeting the characters. She really enjoyed meeting Pooh & Friends at the Crystal Palace breakfast and the Princesses at the Royal Table. This trip was as the New Fantasyland was being built, and there's even more for a 1 year old to enjoy now (Ariel / Dumbo's Playground (AC!) / Circus Water Station Thing / The Silly Sideshow to meet Mickey's Pals...

Jungle Cruise and Aladdin's Magic Carpets would and even the relaxing train could make for nice rides too.

Don't let anyone discourage you from taking a one year old. When we were preparing to go, people would always question us about taking a child so young. "They won't remember!" was always the popular opinion. They won't remember, surely, but it's not just for them. As parents, those are memories you'll cherish.

thats the truth! i had soooo many people telling me my 13 month was too young and she wouldnt remember it and it was just a waste of my money...my baby had an amazing time and seeing her being sooo thrilled was worth it to me! she might not remember it, but we took a billion pictures and show her often...now she's excited for our upcoming trip and she'll be 2 and a half!

Lots of good advice here. Just wanted to add that when DS was 1, he hated Peter Pan& cried the whole time. I think he didn't like that he couldn't see us anymore. The ride has lighting on the characters, but I never noticed how dark it is for the people riding - there are only a few spots where you can see each other's faces.

But other than that he had a great time! And he loved lots of new things on his trip this year (at age 2).
