Suggestion re: paid extra content

I mentioned this in the other thread that was removed, but I currently pay $9.99 per month for Netflix. My family probably watches/listens to more DIS produced content in a given month, than we do Netflix. It's close either way.

I have no problem donating to an entity that is providing me the entertainment and information that the DIS currently does. The added content that will be provided to those who donate is just a bonus in my book.

Side note: I was annoyed when my cost jumped up to 9.99. I understand why it did, but just annoying.

I actually agree! I would really like to see Abby on camera, but I imagine she would have limited input. (I get my dog fix however I am able!)

#putacameraonAbigail

Abby is a sweet sweet sweet (did I say SWEET?) dog.

She gets very excited when everyone shows up for the show.

She is so good that she settles down and is usually quite quiet while we record.

Because we have stationary cameras (and not a camera man), it's hard to track a moving dog.

I decided to try and pick her up last week so that she could be seen on camera.

She weighs 70 lbs and gets so excited that it's like holding 7 dogs.

Needless to say it didn't work and the old adage of "let sleeping dogs lie" came to mind.

Goldens are the sweetest and gentlest dogs but mine shredded every costume my wife tried to put on her, I doubt a go pro would fair better but I'd love to see the footage

2 things I would absolutely pay for:
1) more content that can be absorbed by listening vs. viewing (I've got 10+ hours in the car to kill each week...)!
2) written transcripts of the content that is put out. With a 9-5 office job and 2 young kids it's hard to "sneak" in things like the Dis Daily Fix...but I would totally read a transcript during down-time at work or while I'm "watching" TV with my kids. Also when I'm listening and driving sometimes I miss things (i.e. "zone out") while I'm driving and either have to rewind or make up something in my head about what I missed :) If I could read it later, would be awesome.

I just have to chime in and agree with so many other posters. I love the analogy that this like supporting PBS, as well as the comparison to a Netflix subscription. I was actually excited when I heard about this on the podcast. Whatever bonus content they provide will be gravy - I will happily become a "patron" of the DU. I have gotten 10 years of entertainment, information and *so much* more from this podcast and never paid one dime. I'd love to be able to throw them some support!

When does it cross the line though?

$20 a month to watch Teresa at the Welcome Center (you know John has that place wired so she doesn't goof off)

$30 to 'virtually' tag along with Oliver and Steve in the parks

$50 to watch John and Kevin watching I Love Lucy

$100 to watch and listen in on Pete and Ryno play video games

You know someone will pay it, apparently Teresa already pole dances if you book a cruise through Dreams.

That "DIS Supporter" graphic in my signature means that I have paid to support this website in the past. I didn't get anything for doing so. I just felt it was something that had given me so much that I wanted to give back. I feel the same way about the podcast. It has provided me countless hours of entertainment, education, and become a huge part of our social life and travel itinerary. There are many, many friends in our lives today who we only met because of the DIS. We'll be seeing a bunch of them (and meeting more) on Saturday at the Delaware DIS meet. And we'll be cruising with a few hundred of them in December. These activities never would have happened without the DIS. I think I can spare a few bucks every month as a way of thanking them for all that they've given me.

I hope my suggestion wasn't misunderstood. I wasn't saying that it's not worth it to support the dis whether you watch or listen. I'll support the show for sure, even though I'm a listener rather than a viewer.
I simply thought I'd put the idea out there as a possible way to entice the people that may not immediately want to give.
I feel like my suggestion was taken wrong. I'm sorry!
But I do totally agree that more audio only or transcribed content would be awesome! I too would love something I can get away with reading online while it looks like I'm doing something else! Lol.
And sharper image has cameras that go on dog/cat collars. I think we need to put one on Klaus so we can see what Tess is doing all day!

I think a show called "Pete's Rant of the Week " would be great!!

after he runs out of legit things it would basically become this

I think a more fan interacting driven segment might be a good idea as well - Tim Tracker does this Yousday thing where he has PO Box and reads fans letters sent to him. I'm just saying bringing the fan base into the show somehow especially the the paid content can give a more intimate feeling!

just a suggestion regarding the upcoming paid bonus content.
I think you may get more people to subscribe if you give a 1-2 video "free preview" of the type of stuff that will be available as the bonus content.
I love all of the podcasts, but very rarely do I watch the videos because I mostly listen via iTunes in my car. So for others that don't watch and only listen, it may be a nice incentive to get to find out what they are paying for, to entice them to sign up.
Like I said, just a suggestion. I completely understand needing to offset costs. And I truly appreciate that we are not losing anything that is already available for free!
Love all of you guys! And I love having your voices and advice be part of my day! Thanks for all that you do!
I would gladly become a supporter of the show. They have really stepped up the content the past few months and its been great. I vote for exclusive dining reviews from John and Kevin!

I was thinking about this too and someway to connect more directly would be cool ... though, I will say they have done several listener question shows. Recently they did some on the Dreams podcast about Universal and I know they have done others. I think not too long ago (but maybe it was a little while ago at this point) Pete did an audio only one with just him that was answering questions. I don't think they have done it in a while on the regular WDW show though - but they definitely have done them in some format before
