I haven't bought a printer lately and have to make a quick decision, so I'm looking for some fast suggestions.

My MIL would like a new all-in-one HP printer for Christmas, so that's what we want to get. My daughter's has been great, but it's a few years old now, so I know the model numbers have changed.

It needs to be a HP, easy to use, durable, and it would be great if the printer cartridges were reasonably priced as well.

Suggest away! :goodvibes

I have the HP Photosmart C7280 all in one. Ink cartriges aren't too badly priced, it does a decent job of printing photos, pretty much does everything I need for it to do. If mine died I would definately get another one.

Thanks! I'll check that one out.

Also, I was just looking at a J6480. Has anybody used one of those? It even has reduce and enlarge on the copy part.

My issue with that model is it uses the tri color color pack rather than the individual color packs. So instead if you print a bunch of stuff in a primary color you can have to replace the cartrige before you use all the ink. Say for example you print something that is yellow, you can use all the yellow ink out of the cartrige, but still have blue left (not sure those are the right colors in it, but you get the idea) With the one I have, you just need to replace the color that goes out.

That's a very good point and just the type of info I was looking for! ::yes::

I have the exact same model as you, Master Mason, and it's been great!!!!

I can print, make color copies, scan and fax. I don't scan or fax very often, but once in a while I need that function so I'm glad I have them.

I especially needed a flat bed copier and it works very well. I've been very pleased with it!!

I just bought an Epson (I know you said HP) NX400 all in one. It's $50 at Sam's Club.

I'm leaning toward the C7280. It does all of the four things that we wanted it to do, and I like being able to only replace what color needs replaced.

Thanks for the referrals! :goodvibes

I have an HP DeskJet F340 All-In-One.. It's a nice size; easy to use; does a good job of printing, copying, and scanning; but the photo printing is really lacking.. (Of course maybe I'm partial because my Epson PictureMate Snap prints such gorgeous photos !!)

If she's not going to print photos though, it was pretty inexpensive, very easy to use,and the ink cartridges aren't too bad if you shop around and buy them on-line.. :)

I bought a HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP a few months ago for under $400. It does fax and scanning. When I do copying I have a choice of color or B&W. The cartidges are about $80 each; the black is good for about 2200 pages and each of the color ones are supposed to be good for 1,400 pages.

So far I have done 209 black pages with about 72% of toner remaining and I have done 141 pages color with 76%, 77% and 80% remaining. And these are the initial supply cartidges which do not have as much toner as the full-price cartridges.

I have both an HP Officejet 7310, and an Epson CX5000, and they both work great.

I used the HP to scan a lot of older documents to .pdf files for storage, and am currently using it to scan really old family photos.

The print and fax has been very handy in both.

The HP is more versatile, as I can scan into a .PDF format, OR a word document using OCR. (software came with the unit) The latter has been very helpful, in that I can scan a document that I needed to make changes to, and then forward via fax. All in One!!

You can also set the FAX to recieve a fax as only black and white, saving a bit on the color cartridge.

I have an HP 7410, a couple of years old. I like it a lot, although it would be nice to have the individual color cartridges. Two things that I especially like:

1. Auto document feeder so you can copy or scan a stack without having to put each page into the scanner individually
2. Double sided printing to save paper and storage space

It also has built-in wireless networking so I can use it with my desktop in one room and my laptop from another room.

Thanks to everybody for your suggestions! I did wind up buying a HP C7280 for a great price. I added a case of paper and an extra set of toner cartridges. Since the cost will be divided by DH and his siblings, the per family cost is very good, and I think MIL will be very happy with the final product. ::yes::

Thanks again! :goodvibes
