Ok, so I'm waiting for the price of the Canon Rebel XT to come down a bit because after doing some research it's what I've decided to purchase after my A70 bit the dust.

In the meantime, I'd like to read up on photography. I remember reading somewhere on this forum about 2 books - I believe one was specifically about the Rebel and the other I can't recall. Can anyone make some recommendations for a novice? Thanks in advance!

Understanding Exposure

Not sure about the Canon book, but I just read this on the way to Seattle, and it was great.

I just got my rebel and also bought the book mentioned above which is excellent and the following: Canon EOS Digital Rebel Field Guide by Charlotte Lowrie.

Highly recommended because the little manual you get w/ the camera is useless

I will make my usual suggestion: Ansel Adams "The Negative". You will not find a better book on the subject of exposure (imho, of course).

I would like to add another vote for Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. It is one of the best for beginners in my opinion (never counting Ansel Adams out, of course!).

Also the National Geographic Guide Field Guide to Photography by Peter Burian and Robert Caputo. These two books compliment each other nicely and will put you well on the road to getting the most out of your Canon dSLR. I'd avoid any specific book on the camera if you have Understanding Exposure and the Field Guide since the instruction manual will probably be enough to help you figure out all the settings, and what not. Instruction manuals only tell you how to use the camera, not take great photos.

Also - check out the Rebel XT review on Steves-Digicams.com http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/rebelxt.html . It will help you get a sense of the overall camera's capabilities.
