Suddenly Canada looks so small.

LUV2ROAM,

I will be the first to say that I HATE how the Swan and Dolphin infringe on the World Showcase. I hope for the buildings to be demolished someday but how realistic is that? The Tower Terror is also a problem. Not nearly as much because of its distance and the fact that it is not brightly illuminated like the Swan and Dolphin.

Spaceship Earth is a different matter, it IS the symbol of Epcot and makes sense that it is visible from World Showcase. Test Track isnt as bad because it is a relatively short building.

I agree, except with TT. That is pretty ugly. But shows how often you *see* something and it doesn't really mean a lot.
But my guess is if they didn't try to cover up the other things, at most they may just paint Soarin' with mountains and sky to blend it in.

Mr. Show, I almost always agree with your interpratations but as for the Swan and Dolphin you are just plain wrong.:o:D

The knock on the S/D is so ludicrous in that the view from anywhere in Epcot isn't what it should be. You would never see a Mayan temple from an English Cafe of the Eifel Tower from Norway...Or how about the Illuminations barges in the lake? These certainly aren't good looking but because of what they produce no one seems to mind. Seeing an odd Hotel complex with big fish and birds way off in the distance hardly seems out of place at WDW at all, IMO.

As for Soarin', that photograph is absolutely a manufactured image using a telephoto lens. Yes the building can be seen from certain vantage points but it isn't anywhere near THAT intrusive. Further, it isn't done, Disney hasn't attempted to conceal the building yet and last but not least, I'll accept a little sightline obtrusion in order to get a great attraction like Soarin' at Epcot.

I wondered the same. Esp after looking yesterday for a view that even came close to what that photo depicts.
If REALLY looking, I sometimes saw it peeking from behind Canada. Not often seeing a full view of it even.
From the photo, it looks like they really blew up Soarin' and imposed Canada on top.
Unless that view is from a boat, and at just a certain angle. That is all I can think of.

I agree S&D does not fit in at all.....

The picture comes from a series of pictures posted in updater to laughingplace.com. While I suppose it is possible that the picture was dcotoer, that is not the sort of activity I normally associate with that site.

I was in Epcot just over a week ago and didn't even notice this stucture behind Canada. And, I know we stopped at Canada in our walk around WS. So, if you are busy focusing on what's on the ground in front of you, it seems you won't even notice it. (or was I just too tired to notice

I rarely post and mostly lurk - but this one got me. Just out of curiosity I copied and imported this photo into my photo editing software to see if I could see signs of editing. Didn't see clear evidence of editing, but the size of the workers in hard hats on top of the soaring building are a bit out of perspective compared to the size of people walking around WS. If a real photo, the workers on the roof should be a good bit smaller in comparison. I'm thinking it's a very good doctor job.

I don't get why so many people are having trouble believing this is an unaltered image. Many Disney show buildings are HUGE! TT is large enough to cover all of Fantasyland. If you think about it Canada does not really cover that large an area. I think the fact that the building is raised in Canada makes many think it is larger than it really is.

I think we should wait to see the finished product before we all go nuts.

Besides I don't here people complaining about seeing the parking lot when riding TT.

I will be at Epcot tomorrow. I will try to make a point of taking a RT boatride to see what it looks like from there.
Not that any of this means diddly. This is starting to be like a UFO sighting. :jester: ;) (I wondered about the size of the guests on the ground too. They seem larger on the left than the right, to me. )
But I am curious. I will take my digital along. I doubt I will have as good of a picture as this one too.

Good grief, They will soon turn WS into a carnival. What does the ride have to do with countries?
Soarin' (the ride) is not part of World Showcase and, therefore, has nothing to do with the countries. It's a part of Future World that just happens to be visible from parts of World Showcase. (Like The Land and Imagination are visible.)

:earsboy:

We were at the WS this weekend and we saw a view of Soarin' that does look somewhat like that picture, though I'll be darned if I can remember where we saw it from.

Not necessarily doctored, but there is a foreshortening effect from use of a telephoto lens that would make Soarin' appear closer to the back of Canada than it actually is.

I'm with Pirate on the S&D. I can't say I've every really noticed it from WS, and it wouldn't bother me anyway. Certainly better than the nondescript hotel towers that they were going to build before The Devil Incarnate hired Michael Graves to do them.

Eww eww eww. I'm sure they'll do something to blend it in better when construction gets farther along, but in the meantime, it's an eyesore!

I rode a boat over to WS this afternoon, and walked to the other boat ramp and rode back.
The closest I saw to this was in front of Italy. Germany on the outskirts towards Italy is similar.
That's the closest view to the picture I have seen.
It is large. But from most angles guests may not know what it is.
And I say if no one makes a fuss over TT, then this should not bother them either.
My guess when it is completly built it will get a paint job depicting mountains and sky.
It's not like the WS skyline is pristine to begin with.
I shot some photos. If they are decent I will post one.

It is an eyesore. I'm confident though that they'll do a fairly decent coverup job. I don't image it would be too difficult to make the rockies taller. It would be more realistic if nothing else.

Like I always preach I will wait until it is completed to reserve final judgment. I do hate how you can see the parking lot from TT. Also at least they turn the lights off on the Swan and Dolphin during Illuminations. Pleasure Islands lights also infringe on the World Showcase experience for me, but again at least they turn them off during Illuminations.

All of you who talk about hating the Swan and Dolphin from World Showcase. On one of our first visits to WDW, the Swolphin was under construction. The plaster swans and dolphins were delivered but not yet installed, they sat in front of the construction sites, at first. By the time we left, they had been craned into position. It was very surreal. Everything was floodlit and surrounded by fog. Really quite beautiful when they first went up. Think of it as sky sculpture, kinda like the St Louis Arch or the The Eiffel Tower. Something that redefines the sky-line rather than detracting from it. Remember how controversial these thing were at first, too. Look at it with a "Disney" eye.
