"SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP! It Builds Character and Strength!" A July 2011 TR-COMPLETE 4/5

Chapter 24- Teppan Edo!

July 27th, 2011

After I woke up Mike and Dave, we headed downstairs to the bus stop and a bus to our dinner destination was right there waiting for us! We even had it to ourselves until we got to POR to pick up a few more people.

We got to Epcot and, once again headed straight for the World Showcase!

dsc02269v.jpg

We went by way of Canada and the UK, which is always a beautiful route.

dsc02271x.jpg

We were running a bit late for our 7:50 ADR, so we hightailed it to Japan and checked in at...

dsc02278zy.jpg

Teppan Edo! I was really excited about this because I'd been hearing great things about it for a WHILE and I love Japanese food, so I wanted to try it so badly! Sorry the pic is grainy by the way, it's extremely zoomed in.

We waited about 10 minutes, and were seated with another nice family from Dallas. They had two sons who were maybe 12 and 14, and a daughter that was 7. They were all just really friendly and great dinner company.

Mami from Akita came over and took our drink orders. She was so precious and extremely gracious. All the servers and chefs bow to you a lot and it's such a nice gesture and makes you feel like royalty.

I ordered an iced green tea.

dsc02279ie.jpg

Dave got a Diet Coke.

dsc02280z.jpg

And Mike got a lemonade I think.

Here's a pic of our table atmosphere.

dsc02281s.jpg

Then Sanchiko from Hiroshima brought hot towels, which I was very impressed with. There's nothin' better than hot towels with a delicious Disney meal. Once again, they were all so gracious and this really made the experience feel so much more upscale. Definite :thumbsup2 for them!

Mami also came over and she took our orders. She was very impressed with my pronunciation of 'Asakusa.'

Here we are a-waitin' for our chef!

dsc02282h.jpg

dsc02283k.jpg

Pretty soon Mami came back and grandly introduced our Chef, Nagatosh, who was from Osaka. He was fantastic! He was funny and interactive and cooked everything exactly the way each of us wanted. Excellent!

Here he is in action:

dsc02290z.jpg

The infamous onion volcano:

dsc02293c.jpg

The dipping sauces:

dsc02297fo.jpg

These were fabulous. If you go there, do not be afraid to try the sauces. They are all so good with every aspect of the meals. I especially liked the orange-ish one. It was very earthy and went really well with the steak, the darkest one with the shrimp, and the white one with the veggies. The white one had a bit of a tang to it which was really nice and spiced up those vegetables well.

Here's the rice that everyone gets with their meal. I put some of the dark sauce on it at one point and that was really good!

dsc02298z.jpg

Our food was cookin' away!

dsc02299ya.jpg

Pretty soon we were served. Everything is served to your in stages, starting with the noodles and veggies, then the meat and seafood.

dsc02302z.jpg

dsc02301uo.jpg

MMMM. This was all SOOOO SO SOO SOO SOOO SO GOOD. I can't even describe it. Yes I can, who am I kidding? the veggies weren't mushy at all and were just perfect, the noodles were al dente (if that exists in Japanese culture, which it must because they were) and some of the most delicious udon noodles ever consumed by me. The steak was cooked medium rare and exactly how I like it. Nagatosh even gave me an extra piece. He said "You are looking too thin." WHY THANK YOU!!! :worship: God bless his soul. Also, the shrimp was not tough or undercooked but just right. So, essentially, everything was AMAZING.

We said thank you to Nagatosh about 4354641846559714 times and he left us to our meals.

Pretty soon we were all done and Mami came out with more hot towels and dessert menus. I knew what I wanted right away and so did Mike and Dave, so she hurried away to get them.

I got the chocolate ginger cake:

dsc02305vg.jpg

dsc02307wq.jpg

dsc02310e.jpg

This was delicious! I was a little leery about an overpowering ginger flavor, but there was just a subtle hint of it! It was lovely. Extremely light with a nice layer of ganache on top. Absolutely perfect.

Mike and Dave are much less adventurous, so they each ordered the soft serve ice cream.

dsc02304tz.jpg

It was soft serve ice cream. Ya can't really screw it up. They said it was really good and refreshing though!

The great thing about this meal is that it wasn't overly filling. I didn't leave feeling stuffed or sick. It was a wonderful experience and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new WS restaurant to try. :thumbsup2

We said goodbye to our new friends from Dallas and left. We had missed Illuminations and Epcot was closing, so an early night it was going to be!

dsc02320z.jpg

Teppan Edo:
Food: 5/5 No question. Everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely fantastic!
Service: 5/5 Mami, Nagatosh and Sanchiko were all so gracious and accommodating.
Atmosphere: 4/5 It is a little cramped feeling in that room, and it is pretty simply decorated, but you're so busy watching the chefs/eating that it doesn't really matter.

1st visit? Yes.
Will return? Definitely!!

Oh boy. I saw the words "Teppan Edo" and I just got really excited and really hungry. Two months from tomorrow is my CP package and I FINALLY get to go there!!
I love Japanese people. It's so cute when they bow. :worship: How precious.
Every cast member involved with your meal sounds AWESOME.
WARM TOWELS!? Ahh that's like a signature restaurant. How fantastic :cloud9:
HAHAHA dipping sauces. All I can think of is P.F. Changs. :lmao:
Steak and Shrimp... that's what I'm getting. I'm getting way too excited I CAN'T WAIT AHHHHHHH :hyper:
Should I get the ginger cake? That's what I'm thinking. It looks good!
And oh yay there's regular ice cream. That's probably what Jonathan will get. Shar's gonna get the green tea thing. I am calling it now.
Ahhhh yum. So excited. That was a wonderful review. :thumbsup2 Thank you.
P.S. I feel like we update on the same days all the time because I was thinking of doing one tonight haha.

Ooh, that meal looks so yummy!! We've never tried Teppan Edo before, but that sure looks good!! :goodvibes

I have never actually gotten to eat at teppan edo :( We had a reservation for there one trip but the restaraunt was running extremely late and my mom really wanted to see the tapestry of dreams parade and illuminations (I think this was our last night so it was her last opportunity to see illuminations for a while. I think this might have been when i was in 7th grade because my dad and brother were with us and that was around the age i was last time we went to the tapestry of dreams parade since it was only around for a short while. My dad and brother actually ended up staying for our reservation while i went with my mom to see the parade. we actually have this amazing japanese steakhouse right by our house that is similar to teppan edo so i think that made my dad and brother not enjoy the meal at teppan edo as much because they were constantly comparing it to this place by us :) Since i never tried it i don't have a personal opinon of the place but i don't think we will be there anytime soon because my mom and i both have a long list of places we do want to go.

Back to your review: the whole place looks really nice! I love all the different interior designs in japan :) I love just taking pictures in there! Your service sounds like it was great :) Your food also looks like it was good :) That must have been nice to get those hot towels inbetween courses. I think that must be a japanesse thing in general because at this restaraunt by us they always give us a bunch of hot towels as well. I wonder why they do that? The onion volcano looks great! I don't know if you have ever seen the show How I Met Your Mother but one of the episodes takes place in a japanese steakhouse and one of the characters is obsessed with the art of japanese cooking and eventually challenges one of the other characters to perform the japanese cooking style for them after the meal because the other character scoffs at him about his obession about japanese cooking. It really is hillarious and everytime i see a onion volcano i think of that episode. once again, back to your report: Your desserts and drinks look pretty good as well. Ginger chocolate sounds like something that is so weird it just might work.

Still catching up... I promise, I'm almost there...

Back to AK, with no detours, WOOT! Big :thumbsup2 to Expedition Everest! I can't believe how quickly those FPs went this day. That's pretty fast, maybe even worse than TSM *gasp* I can only imagine how epic your ride was with all those Stacey-isms added in. "There doesn't seem to be any track." Love that one! (:

Sorry to hear about Primeval Whirl still be closed, at least it wasn't one of the rides you wanted to ride from what I hear (bruised hips=not fun). But now you have two FPs for KRR and DINOSAUR :goodvibes Ooooo... Pizzafari! The food there sounds and looks really good. LOVE Disney Pizza! Especially Pepperoni  And you always gotta have that H2O :D

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Almost there, only one more update! :woohoo:

Oooooohhhh... FOtLK... it looks like such an awesome show! I definitely have to see it the next time I'm down in the world. The bird sequence looks so pretty and I've heard the tumble monkeys are another great act, though it all looks good to me from these pictures. If only I was going back sooner :cloud9:

Love your DINOSAUR picture! Though I gotta agree, Jess in the picture would've made it a lot better or if you had told your dad and brother to look in that direction :thumbsup2 And I can't believe you stand up at the best part of ITTBAB! It's such a great show, I can totally understand why your brother likes it, it's so innovative and extremely fun, I always come out laughing especially when someone I know is flipping out  But I guess it's not for everyone. :confused3

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

I'm all caught up now, party:

YAY TEPPAN EDO! I've heard really good things about that place and this just proves it. The food sounds delicious and those dipping sauces look really good. The Onion volcano is just as cool as ever. Oh my gosh, they have seafood too! Can I book a reservation over a year in advanced? LOL Then, those desserts... :goodvibes Oh gosh, I have to walk away, before... oh look dinner! Alright I'm good... Glad to hear you had an overall nice meal! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Mmmm, Teppan Edo = Happy me. :cloud9:

I'm glad that you enjoyed your meal there. It really is a great restaurant. I love the chocolate ginger cake too. Nice balance of flavor for sure!

ok girl. I ve been reading you report in silence but i am so ready to try teppan edo for the 1st time in December. Thanks for pumping me up a little more:thumbsup2

"Come on, I'm tired. Can't we just be Death Eaters?" is my favorite Draco line. The way she says it while rolling in the floor cracks me up. And, yes, you do need to watch the sequel. It's just as funny as the first one. :thumbsup2

I really want to try Teppan Edo. I always have fun at teppanyaki restaurants so that + Disney should equal the greatest experience ever. Your food looks delicious. Now, I'm craving a giant hunk of steak. Why don't I have a personal chef who could whip one up for me? My life is so hard.

Hahaha I like who you're counting down individually to your ADR's. You're precious.
The CM's were wonderful. I love them.
The warm towels were such a nice touch. I loved them.
HAHAHA the awkward sauce mixing ceremony. Gotta love it.
It was SO GOOD.
Haha yeah that is EXACTLY what I would predict for them. I wanted to get the green tea pudding but I wanted the cake more. Tell her to let me know how it is though because I kinda wanna try it next time.
You're welcome. So polite hehe.
Yeah we probably do. I can't do one tonight because there's some JBird drama (I'll explain eventch) and I have to work at 8 AM so I have to get to bed but I'll do one tomorrow after work! :goodvibes

Ooh, that meal looks so yummy!! We've never tried Teppan Edo before, but that sure looks good!! :goodvibes

It was!! You should definitely try it some day, it was wonderful!

Yeah I feel like a lot of people compare it to their local teppanyaki restaurants. All I know was that it was amazing! You should definitely get an ADR there for some future trip. I would have skipped it for Tapestry of Dreams though. I am obsessed with that parade. The music is amazing.

It's very modern and cool in there for sure. I LOVED the hot towels. Haha I'm such a dork but I really enjoyed them. It was so cute! HAHAHA what a great show. I've never seen that episode though! It does sound like a weird combo for a dessert but the balance of rich and light was perfect and it was actually really delicious!

I know! What was weird was it didn't even seem that crowded to me that day. Ah well. I'm so glad we got a chance to ride it though! Stacey is a genius!

I actually really like it, but it was okay that it was refurbing. I didn't really mind.

I love Pizzafari. It honestly just never gets old for me at all.

IT IS SO AMAZING. I seriously never get tired of seeing it. Every aspect of it just blows my mind.

Yeah I forgot to tell them. Ah well. Haha I'm not a creepy crawly fan, Timothy. Can I call you that? I'm so going to. Kay, Timothy.

It's awesome! You should go there someday! Haha if only ya could...everything about it was just great.

Teppan Edo...another item for the list of things I must try. Looks tasty!

Nothing like a little macabre humor before Halloween...gotta love Alfred Hitchcock! In any event, I recommend that you do not see the rest of that movie.

It was incredible!

Yeahh gotta love him...:confused3...HAHA.

I am definitely not watching any movie entitled "Birds." ESPECIALLY an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

Oh dear, I hope I haven't ruined the Tiki Room for you. :sad1: If I actually caused any emotional trauma, please accept my sincerest apologies. :guilty:

How about we balance things out a bit?...some of the nice birdies in the audience feel like they're getting a bad rap...spread some avian good cheer, as it were.
Winnie-the-pooh-characters-movie-photo-09-550x550.jpg

TTFN, ta-ta for now!

I actually really love the Tiki Room, so no worries. :goodvibes And thank you, I feel much better now. None of those birds scare me. I mean, who doesn't love the Cabelleros?! And Owl, of course! I NEED THE NEW MOVIE ON DVD, PRONT.

Mmmm, Teppan Edo = Happy me. :cloud9:

I'm glad that you enjoyed your meal there. It really is a great restaurant. I love the chocolate ginger cake too. Nice balance of flavor for sure!

I hear ya there! :thumbsup2

It really is! It was such a fun new experience! That cake is awesome. Love it.

ok girl. I ve been reading you report in silence but i am so ready to try teppan edo for the 1st time in December. Thanks for pumping me up a little more:thumbsup2

:welcome: and thanks for reading along! So glad you're here! That's awesome that you're going so soon! I hope you enjoy your meal as much as I enjoyed mine!!

"Come on, I'm tired. Can't we just be Death Eaters?" is my favorite Draco line. The way she says it while rolling in the floor cracks me up. And, yes, you do need to watch the sequel. It's just as funny as the first one. :thumbsup2

That is SUCH a great line. :rotfl: I definitely need to watch the sequel when I get a chance!!

You would probably LOVE it then. You should go in July!! I know, I mean my mom basically is mine, but no one really whips up exactly what I want when I want it. I would be asking for school bread WAYYY too much. :P

Chapter 25- Our Musically Inspired Exodus from Epcot and a Visit to My Sea Serpent Friend

July 27th, 2011

After our lovely dinner at Teppan Edo, we left Epcot, taking our time to enjoy how beautiful all of the countries looked at night. I also noticed that they were playing the Tapestry of Nations music and it was awesome. I am obsessed with it. It's my new favorite Disney music. I really wish it still existed! It's incredible.

Anyways, enough of my rant about bygone parades. Here's some pics of our journey to Future World, on which we saw very important-looking people pointing and discussing things left and right. Imagineers maybe? If so, I feel like I should have bowed down to them or something. They are all AWESOME.

You can never have too many "golf ball" pics! Or maybe you can...:confused3 Ah well.

We got right on a bus back to POFQ, and it was still really early! Like 10 o' clock! So what did I decide to do? Go swimming of course! I hadn't visited my beloved sea serpent pool yet this trip and just HAD to pay him a visit!

So I went back to the room and changed.

dsc02389c.jpg

And Mike and I headed down to the pool while Dave went to bed.

Lucky for us, the slide was still open! I think I went down it about 219874328 times. LOL.

These pictures are actually ones that I took during the day, because I didn't take my camera down to the pool with me. There was hardly anyone there that night though, which was great!

I miss Tapestry of Nations so much. :( I never understood why they decided to get rid of the show. I agree, they have great music.

There is never such a thing as too many Spaceship Earth pictures.

World Showcase is so pretty at night with all of the buildings all lit up... the whole atmosphere is amazing

I had to go listen to the Tapestry of Nations music when you mentioned it. :goodvibes

Haha I totally had to listen to Tapestry of Nations after reading that as well.

Ahhh so much love for World Showcase at night! SO much!

Good work Germany for being empty! :thumbsup2

No no you cannot have too many 'golf ball' pics. Although we were looking through my holiday pictures the other day my mother commented on the Spaceship Earth picture and asked 'Oh is that from when we went to mini golf?"

Late night swims are the best way to end the day :goodvibes

Hi! I (VERY) recently came out of lurkdom and thought I'd say hello! I am all up to date with your TR now and I have to say I'm loving it, you are too funny.
I have to say you are SO good at describing food. All I can ever come up with is: "It was SO good," or, "It wasn't very good." Hah! Keep up the good work!
World Showcase at night is completely gorgeous. Especially Italy. For some reason I think Italy is so much prettier at night, especially Via Napoli!
I love that you went swimming after Epcot, I mean, the night was still young! Gotta live it up when you're at Disney! That slide looks awesome! Now I totally wanna stay at POFQ. Who am I kidding, I wanna stay at ALL the resorts. :rotfl:
Anyways, can't wait to read more! :thumbsup2

There really isn't. The sad thing is I had more. :P

YES! It is fabulouss.

They are! They're so nice and relaxing.

Hey there! :welcome: I'm so glad you like it! Thanks for commenting!!

Aww haha thanks! I love food very much, so I take pride in describing it in a way that truly does it justice.

I agree! It's magical.

Yeah exactly! I feel so weird if I go to bed before midnight in Disney.

Hahaha so do I! My goal in life is to stay at every single Disney resort. I've only stayed at 4 so far, but after next year that number will have increased by one at the very least!

Love the World Showcase night pictures! It's so beautiful walking around there at night.

I have been tossing it back and forth where we are going to stay for our June trip. I think I'm 99% sure I'm going to try POFQ. I want to try something different and I am loving your pictures.
